Hopefully it's at the 'G...I can't even remember the last time we played you guys at the 'G during the H&A unfortunately it's always at the Phone Dome.

If it is at the 'G there will be 65-70,000 easily, this season's game at the Dome was a joke, it would've easily got 75,000 had it been at the 'G.

2002, Round 1 was the last time (obviously excluding the 2004 SF).

Will be a great atmosphere.

To deny 10's of thousands of loyal, long suffering Geelong fans the opportunity to see the flag unfurled because they don't live or cannot get to Geelong smacks of arrogance and pettiness.
I agree that the AFL should have scheduled the 1st home game at Skilled and this reflects at how out of touch with the real owners of the game they are. By that I mean Us the fans.
But lets not forget that the flag will be flying high above Skilled stadium forever and a day.
We Melbourne based fans might only get to see it ONCE!!
We deserve to see it as much as anyone else.

....our 2007 flag flies high from dawn to dark. Down at Kardinia Park.

It should be unveiled at KP and thats it. And the AFL should've made sure our R2 game was at KP. Bloody AFL.

If the club want to unveil it in Melbourne for the Melbourne fans fine, but do it after it's been unveiled in Geelong.

I don't buy the argument that we should do it so as many people as possible can see it. Why don't we apply the same principle to our home games then? Let's move every home game to the 'G because more people will be able to get in.

I'm sure as hell you wouldn't agree with that. And why? Because Geelong and Skilled Stadium is our HOME. And as our home it should be the place where the flag is unfurled.

I don't think it's selfish to want to the club to only unfurl it in Geelong, you might say "what about Melbourne based fans", but what about Geelong based fans that can't make it to the game?Yes they'll get their chance, but so would Melbourne based fans if they did it after the first Skilled game.

That is a really poor agrument. So you only value our 2007 Premiership as much as a run of the mill home and away game? In that case, you don't deserve to see it! You seem to be confusing the issue of rewarding supporters and relocation (that obviously would never happen).

Dasher, this is OUR almost lifetime in the waiting Premiership! For all the shit we've been put through for decades, every damn supporter that has stuck by this club deserves to see it!

And every damn Geelong fan deserved to be there on GF day too, but we now how that turned out.

I just fundamentally disagree with unfurling on a ground that is about as close to our home ground as AAMI Stadium. The AFL has just about taken every last tradition out of the game, and now we join them by unveiling a flag at an away ground?

We'll have to agree to disagree on this!

This issue has arisen because of the incompetence of the AFL.
I agree that the unfurling of the flag should be at Skilled, but the Melbourne based supporters should also be recognised . The club is trying to do the right thing by all the supporters.
Lets face it, there are probably more cat fans in Melb than in the city of Geelong.

Agree entirely!

Probably not surprising given Melbourne has almost ten times the population of Geelong and only about 50% of the population in Geelong actually barrack for Geelong.

Its not the AFL it is the GFC that want to unveil it at the G as well as KP.

Grow up! For geelong to be a strong successful club (ongoing) we need to embrace the Cat Fans in both Melbourne and Geelong. We get an 80K crowd Big proffit (700K+) then 24K at Geelong (400K) profit. More fans see it more feel the get someting out of the membership, they stay members, we Make more money, We get to be a more powerful Club.

We still get shafted even though we are premiers as we will have to travel 5 times, no real favours for the G games (only 2 at most) not that many Friday night games. You watch tomorrow the Pies will get another dream run at the G and a lot for high profile games. They have the #s we dont jsut yet.

Showing the flag to the Fans twice can only be a good thing. It will fly Hig from Dawn to Dark (on match days) at kardinia Park for ever more so why not at HTe Place where we won the Bloody thing

Go Catters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (P.S Keep the current Logo)

This is great, i would have killed to have this problem at the start of the year. This is one of the greatest issues ever. I agree with every1 on this issue.

Im a melb based fan who has a reserved seat at skilled. We really should have had rd 2 at skilled therefore no unveiling in melb, but i cant wait till rd 4 to unveil it. So do it in melb aswell.

Go Cats im still loving this, lol @ this problem. Just give us our flag. ITS OURS

Ridiculous suggestion.

Possibly one of the most robust and energetic debates this board has had in a while and you want it locked, sealed and delivered?

This is a democracy and both arguments in this thread are compelling and logical.

I agree it should be unveiled in Melbourne and Geelong - but it should not see the light of day anytime before it gets a royal treatment at Skilled Stadium.

I suppose you would like the worm to track this as well.

What I said was a tounge in cheek comment by the way.

The flag will fly to the cheer of many happy cat fans. To quibble about where it should and shouldn't happen first isn't an issue IMO.

Not sure why you started your points with a personal insult. A small one at that. But still. An insult never the less.

So arsehead. My only point here is that Round2 should've been at Kardinia Park. After that. Unveil the flag as much as they like. I'll be at both games regardless but I can't but feel that the 2nd unveiling at KP won't be as good as the first which again is the point I'm trying to make.

I can see Steve's point in that the MCG game is going to be huge and make the Skilled unvailing small in comparrison. Our views are not going to change anything but the right way it should have been was still have both but the AFL should have given us a Skilled match in round 1 or 2 . & then unveil it at the G .
Still whats done is done, round 2 at the G is going to be unbelievable.

Actuall the insult was on the second line...(actually not directly aimed at you, but the traditionalists who dont want things changed ever). Dont care if round 2 is G or KP. Can see the point but all Cat fans need to remember Melbourne based members are as important as Geelong based ones,..Cheers Tossle.

You are actually wrong on this point. It has been well stated in the press this year that Geelong make a $600,000+ profit when we play a full house at Skilled Stadium. We don't often draw 80,000+ to the MCG and usually when we are playing a team like Collingwood.

Ha ha. Nice.......
Actually I'm kinda turning on the whole thing after reading everyones views. If you asked me straight up where I would want the flag unveiled I'd say KP all the way. But can certainly see the other sides point of view.
This whole thing reminds of the anzac weekend where we all had to stand for a minutes silence even though anzac day was some 4 days prior. It kinda made it all feel a bit contrived or artificial. Hope the same feeling doesn't occur here.

As I said on Cats Claw...NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!

I will be ropeable if we unveil the flag at a Melbourne game before doing it at Geelong. I'm not in favour of doing it at a Melbourne game full stop.

As Tom Harley (and our Theme Song) says, "We are GEELONG". Our home is Geelong, our home ground is Skilled Stadium and Skilled Stadium should be the one and only place we unveil the flag.

The gloss will be taken off any unveiling of the flag at Skilled Stadium if it's already been unveiled. Hell if we are going to unveil it in Melbourne, why not do it at every bloody ground too?

I hope the club think twice about doing this.
Shut up - the club is bigger than 23,00 supporters. Many of us - including me will want to travel to see the flag unveiled. Only small minded supporters want to see this done in a tin shed - if they dont do at th G is will be a disgrace and i fail to see how every member will get in. This would be a PR nightmare if they go with Skilled.

Do it twice - at the G for the bombers game and then at the next skilled game

Well the Essendon game is being played at Telstra Dome which sort of wrecks the excitement of unfurling the flag at the MCG!!!:(

I can't believe we don't play Essendon at the MCG!!!! It's ****ing ridiculous!!!

I have to say I'm in Dasher's corner on this one. And I'm not from Geelong - I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. So trekking down the highway to see the flag unfurled for me is a far longer trip.

But Geelong is our home ground.

We're the only club that has retained any continuity with our home ground or support base. Surely it's a good thing to be able to unfurl a premiership flag at our actual home ground. Not one that we've relocated to, or one that we've sold (like so many other clubs).

If you want to show it again at the MCG afterwards great, but the clubs's first game at Skilled Stadium of the season should take precedence.

I agree that the unfurling should be at home, all I have said is that the Melbourne based supporters should be allowed their moment.
I don't care if it's the first Melb. home game or the second. I just want to see it.
