I mean more for him to develop in the NEAFL in that role rather than seniors.

I would bring in Thurlow and COR. Thurlow offers a big accurate kick of the footy and both offer more pace that those they replace.

Lloyd on wing would also be an upgrade on Clarke.

Backline would be
Rampe Melican Thurlow
COR Aliir McVeigh
I like that you've left Melican, I think we need him... (btw, do you think he's big enough for the monsters?). COR worries me... I saw that Punts brought him in as well. Do you think he's good enough? I get that he's fast, but can he do anything with it, or is he a bit like Harry C a few years back? Just a wee bit too early?

Okay, so if we've got Blakey, Dawson and Hayward, who goes? And why?
None. But if I had to pick - Blakey.

Dawson has had more good games than bad so far, plus he is out of contract so it wouldn't hurt to find out if he is a keeper or not.

Hayward is untouchable.

But two things won't happen.

Horse won't move Lloyd out of the back pocket. And Horse won't drop Clarke. I think he really rates Clarke because he's a tough hard nut who will crack in, just like the kind of mids Horse loves. But Clarke didn't do anywhere near enough to impress on debut for us so I really hope I'm wrong with regards to his spot being safe.
Possibly right but my post was more about what I would do if I had the opportunity.

Fair enough, I didn't realise he was out of contract. Totally agree re Hayward, and Blakey's turn will come, nothing surer... so maybe it is a good idea to find out about Dawson, but I'd hope the coaching staff already have a fair idea.

I think he is or will be capable. Certainly I think Reg is reaching his end and we don’t have a lot of choice. If we play Reg over him and then Reg retires, we will have missed the opportunity to get Melican into that position and will be caught with our pants down.

I feel like COR reads the ball pretty well and is a decent mark for his size. From the limited opportunities he seems to be solid rather than spectacular defensively but that will come. My main concern would be his kicking / decision making which seem to be inconsistent rather than considered poor. But he has only played the game for a short time and I feel he still has plenty of upside.

Timing is about right for him.

Fair enough... I sometimes have trouble picking between inconsistent and poor when it comes to decision making. Knowing what can be learnt through game time and what can't might be as a result of experience and having played, I think.

I'm willing to rely on yours and Punts judgement for now, but I do think that this is a make or break year for him.

If Dawson goes then it won't be a surprise, someone always seems to pay for an insipid performance (team 1st half)

It tends to serve notice that if I don't perform I might be next.

Harsh but wouldn't be the worst call to make. Could make that call on a handful of others but Dawson probably the one in the gun at this stage.

Guy that comes in had better perform though or it's a waste of time and potentially damages Dawson's confidence.

The Adelaide midfield with clearance specialists in the crouch brothers and sloane scares the crap out of me especially if they get quick ball to their forwards with 666 on the SCG.

They had a few outs against the Hawks in Greenwood, Seedsman (who always tears us up) and Hartigan who will come in for Doodee and does seem to play well on Buddy.

Tex springs back to life against us to, no Smith to curtail Betts we have to win the middle convincingly otherwise goodluck defense.

Poor Hayward.

Some peeps want to drop him.

Imagine playing medium forward in a team that lives in it's own D50.

I mean, what is he supposed to do?

I just don't get how hard it is for us to transition and escape forward. Well actually I do but let's see what selection brings first.

This. Always funny when people blame our small forwards...they are doing well for the ball to be down there 20 times a match...

you are kidding, right?
Rain may be a saviour. Tex will get at least 2 or 3 soft frees. The main change I want to see is defenders playing tighter . We are way to slow back there to play from behind. We need to block the run of leading type forwards.

One thing for sure, we wont be as tall as we were last week.

Potential ins - Jack / Ronke
Who may be under the pump - Dawson / Grundy / Mellican / Florent

Depends if Horse wants to make too many changes, I suspect not so it may just be KJ in Dawson out.
