Tough call on fanning i thought, because now we don't really have a specialist ruckman only part timers in Waler, Cloke and Rocca so it will be tough in the ruck. Just hope that our midfield can try to get on top and get some clearances early on. Allthough Cam is not all that bad of a ruckman.

You've all seen my comments on Micks game last week, but just forget about that. This is a new week, and a new game.

David Fanning being dropped  I think that is very harsh on the big fella, and did someone mention that he is our only ruckman able to play?

I do love Cam, and Text, yet they aren't ruckman, they are part-time ruckman, and with the centre circle rule, we will only find out if Text and Cam can ruck under those conditions. I think Rocca won't be the man to win it for us in centre bounces considering that new rule. Rocca loves to run and jump, not .... jump.

I guess we will have to wait and see. For Willo's sake, I don't think the Telstra Dome is meant for Willo, i can recall him having his shockers at that ground, but guys, watch out for Rhyce Shaw. He usually is gold at Docklands.

Surprised that you dropped Fanning to combat Hudson & Clarke. Whilst you are used to reading opposition rucks, without Buckley, I think we will dominate the midfield (with Shirley shutting down Licuria). Just a question as to whether our forwards can make the most of their opportunities. Tarrant is your wild card as we don't have an obvious matchup.

Ben Rutten is you most likely starter on Rocca or Tarrant?

Another match up, I think Clement will take Welsh, as Wakelin will probably go to Stevens. Haven't seen the crows team, but if Biglands is in, that is a worry, I hope Walker, if Rhett plays.

Rutten will probably start on Tarrant, but I would prefer Bassett to get the job.

I expect Clement will play on Welsh, Prest on Stevo & Wakelin on Perrie. Who picks up Hentschel?

Assuming Shirley runs with Licuria, who picks up Ricciuto, Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards, Thompson & Reilly in the midflield battles?

I will work on match-ups.

1 - Davis V 39 - Mattner
18 - Licuria V 12 - Shirley
33 - C Cloke V 13 - Hudson

I think I did an alright job. O'Bree, Lockyer and Woewodin starting on the bench will probably not happen.

Walker may start forward, but is a much better match up on Biglands.

With Buckley out injured can you afford to play experienced players like Woey, Lockyer, O'Bree & Burns out of the midfield?

I gather you guys will rotate Cloke, Walker & Rocca through the ruck.

Really looking forward to this game.

I love Davis in the midfield and he should go down forward also. Rhyce Shaw is our defensive midfielder along with Holland, but Shaw will most likely as usual, thanks to MM, be put on the bench throughout the match!!!!

No we certainly cant. Not all at the same time anyway. We need Burns forward/on the bench, and O'Bree rotating with Burns. R Shaw and L Davis did well midfield last week and will be in the midfield rotation along with Woey Lockyer Holland and young Rowe.

Our midfield is very slow but luckily we are only playing Adelaide this week.

Rowe sounds promising ... but do you have any other young midfielders on your list to come through as the next generation to replace the likes of Buckley & Burns?

What's happened to O'Bree? Had an awesome year after he came down from Brisbane, but has gone backwards since. Has he not recovered from growing his beard Ned Kelly-style?

Obviously you cannot replace a player like Buckley.
Brodie Holland is not that young but I have hopes for him becoming a pretty good midfielder, I don't think we've seen the best of him.
Brayden Shaw is probably one who we are relying on but he hasn't shown enough form to earn a senior selection yet.
It's early but Iacobucci and Rusling are supposed to be the goods and it's hard to tell whether Egan has the ability to play in the midfield yet. He has got star material though.
Didak will be a great midfielder IMO. When he gets back from injury he will have to be played conservatively in the forward line but he has shown great promise in the midfield. In the few times he was played in the midfield for the whole game he went very well. He is quick, evasive and has great skills and is quite a hard worker. The only query on Didak as a midfielder is his accountability.

Rusling and Iaccobucci played for Willy seconds on the weekend and Rusling did ok apparently. Egan showed tons of potential in the Willy seniors as well but he's still very raw. Heath Shaw was good for Williamstown and Brayden Shaw was poor.

So the answer really is no. Thats why Caracella and Morrison were recruited, to add depth to the senior midfield while we find some new midfielders. I expect us to chase a big young name next year, especially if Buckley and Burns retire.

The first time I saw Chris Egan (v WCE at Darwin) I thought that it could turn into another wasted 1st round draft pick, but after yesterdays performance, and a praccy match at Optus Oval last month, he looks really good as a footballer. His skills are quite good and he is very quick. Played a good game yesterday for Williamstown, whilst Mick and Nathan were there.

Heath Shaw has got more of a chance at the moment but I think Brayden will be the better player. Heath Shaw, won't be suprised to see him in the seniors this year as he did play a few matches in the Pre-Season in the black and white. Brayden is classed as a long-term project, so I guess he has a few more things to get together. He isn't quick, but he does have skills that can be improved.

I am now waiting for the debuts of Egan and Heath, hopefully sooner rather than later, and it was very good to see Chris named as Emergency, so with yesterday's performance, he has a real chance to come in for the Carlton game next Saturday.
