Opinion Round 2 - The Positives Thread

For all the simple blame Buckley talk (which is always the easier thing to do) we've clearly had control of parts of the match in Round 1 and 2 and certainly enough of the ball to win the game. Not putting control of the game onto the scoreboard has been the issue, compounded by the numerous missed chances across the first two games. Missing simple shots at goal (which is outside of Buckley's control) has been the killer so far. Buckley's gameplan has given us more than enough control to build decent leads but the opportunities aren't being taken.

So that's what I'm seeing as a positive because at times over the last couple of years we've looked like we just don't have any answers. Despite two frustrating losses this year we've looked like a different team. Case in point, in games last year it felt like if we were losing in the last quarter and the opposition got a goal the heads would drop and we would be run over. Look to be able to stop the bleeding for the most part so far this year.

Given this I still don't have any confidence for next week

Grundy is a star.
WHE is class. I have reservations about the cost of his trade but not anymore.
Howe. AA form.
Goldy good when Spudwieldt went upfield.
Treloar good as usual.

encouragement award to Broomy.

Treloar almost implied as such on SEN after the game last night. From memory, he suggested that the team didn't execute the gameplan properly for long enough. He suggested that when something goes wrong (i.e. missing a target by foot) they don't seem to have the confidence to keep trying, instead, reverting to the conservative approach to kick it long down the boundary (which isn't the way they want to play). Could be wrong but that was the gist of it from my memory.

whoever wont follow the gameplan should be practicing it in the 2's.

Grundy - Easily our best midfielder for the night
Howe - This bloke is All Australian in a better side. Unbelievable the s*** he does.
WHE - Fantastic game... Great hands for a smallish forward and can kick straight. What more can you ask for?
Broomhead - First game back in how many years and he plays like that.... Just ooooozes class. He and Sidebottom will look good together.
White - Didn't do a whole lot but I thought it was one of his more complete games. Barely ever loses a 1 on 1 contest and never stops trying. One of my favourites now to be honest.

That is all.

Richmond fans think they're on the right track despite beating a bottom 2 side in Carlton and a bottom 8 side in Collingwood. It will make their inevitable failure to make finals a lot sweeter.

Richmond's reality check won't really taste so sweet if we're dwelling in the cellar of the comp...

Darcy Moore's goal
I know not many people will agree but when Broomy put in into space Moore was in a similar position to where Pendles and Treloar had put it out on the full. It took courage but I think it was a great display of leadership for him to burn Sidebottom and Blair and just run it and kick it from 25 close to the boundary. Glad he took it upon himself. 3 contested marks on a swirly night is an indicator that top form and results are not far away

The positive is that there is no way Blair will be dropped after analysing his stats for last night. People calling for his head have no idea!!.
Lets go through them:

1) 9 disposals. One of them was a kick. The impressive part is that he went at a disposal efficiency of 89%. He had the HIGHEST disposal efficiency in our team.

2) With all those efficient disposals, his metres gained was a unique (-15) metres. That's right, he CONCEDED 15 metres in total for the night. Unique because he was the ONLY player on the field from both teams to manage this feat!!

3) Score involvements were an impressive 2. On par with Maynard, and just behind Reid (3), Ramsay (3), Goldsack (4), Smith (4) Howe (4), but DOUBLE Schades woeful (1). They are backline players you say???...

4) Here is where Bucks is right to have him one of the first picked in the team. He had 4 tackles. Only behind Adams (7), Ramsey (6), Aish (5), but on par with Pendlebury (4).

5) Bucks is right again.. He had 20 pressure acts. The highest in the team, and even better than Pendlebury, who had 19 (the second highest in the team). Hell, only Cotchin had more pressure acts of the 44 players last night (21).

So, based on Buck's game plan of manic forward defensive pressure, Blair was our best contributor last night, better than Pendlebury.
Go Buck's. You have it all in hand.
:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:rolleyes:

WHE, Grundy and Howe are the only positives.

Non playing positive is we now have 21 weeks to find a new coach, no excuses finding the best person now.

I'd ad Goldy to that as well

WHE was excellent, that courageous mark and that centring kick which was intercepted and allowed shitmond to kick a goal against the flow. A real momentum killer.
The 3 he kicked after was just to allow us to hang in there. Nice token goals
