Gold Coast kick 13 goals they win v Freo. This game real flip of the coin

This will either be Fremantle coming out and making a statement after a deplorable start to the year - or the beginning of the end of this current Fremantle era (at least that will be the media story).

The home team won every game in Round 1. But more away teams will start favorites in Round 2.

Richmond def Collingwood by 4pts
Port Adelaide def Adelaide by 42pts
Melbourne def Essendon by 12pts
Brisbane def North Melbourne by 5pts (I think this one can be a big upset)
Western Bulldogs def St Kilda by 30pts
Fremantle def Gold Coast by 16pts
Geelong def Western Sydney by 65pts (in Canberra, 90% of the crowd will be going for Geelong)
Hawthorn def West Coast by 10pts
Sydney def Carlton by 100pts

Be nice if you changed that avatar. We don't need to be reminded what humility doesn't look like, his guilty face was everywhere for 3 years.

Round 1 always throws curve balls. You'd be foolish to write off any side, Freo and Pies were jumped by two sides that played a relentless, hard working brand. It happens. We all know that sides who get demoralised normally hit back hard.

Big ask for Bris - coming back from WA - 6 day break and still missing Beams.
Gaining Merret zorko and green. Still a big ask for sure. But the tempo we played against west coast plus a game under everyone belt should tighten up them turn overs that cost us 60 points.

Decided to put this here instead of making my own thread - what kind of madness is seeing 90% of tippers at AFL.com.au tipping Freo over Gold Coast, after seeing about 70% of people tipping them over the Bulldogs last week? Did everyone who tips there forget that Freo didn't have a convincing game since about round 7 or 8 last year (it's something I spoke of a lot towards the end of last year, and while I'm a WA supporter I was glad to see my analysis vindicated). CrownBet even has them at $1.14.

It's a home game and the longest trip in footy, so I wouldn't call them the underdogs... but they are very vulnerable to being upset by a Gold Coast team that definitely has the team on paper that can beat them, and will go in believing they are underdogs - and thus trying that much harder. This game, IMO, could go either way - and at $1.14 from CrownBet, I'm guessing there's a pretty reliable handicap bet with pretty decent odds (just took a look at the line - GC +35.5 - that's insanely good value).

Beyond that little rant, my tips:

Richmond
Port
North
Bulldogs
Gold Coast
Geelong
West Coast
Syndey

Thoughts: tough round to tip. Port looked like losing against St Kilda at home for most of the match, while Adelaide looked like beating North away for most of the match. Gold Coast look better than Freo, but it is an away game for them and you'd hope Freo would be fired up after last week's result. North seem better than Brisbane, but it is an away game and Brisbane looks better than last year. West Coast seem to be in a prime position to take out Hawthorn this week, but only a fool would discount the Hawks entirely after a loss (they'll be fired up), and a home game for them.

Hope you're lodging a tip for Dons-Dees...

Apart from that though I do agree. Think that the Dockers are in strife. Sandi helps but the problem has been shoved down the road with his return. Freo without a ruckman are extremely vulnerable. And that's without even looking at the forward line.

That said, I think they win this week...the Suns are better but still not great.

Whoops!

God, now that's another tough game to tip. I must have subconsciously avoided it. :p Dees weren't exactly impressive last week (they did well to come back, but in fairness, that was more GWS doing more poorly to not win), and Essendon look like they neither have the effort nor the cattle to get many wins.

I'll tip the Dees, but this will be one of the few games this year that Essendon actually has a chance of winning.

Collingwood v Richmond - 19
Adelaide v Port Adelaide - 10
Essendon v Melbourne - 24
Brisbane Lions v North Melb - 19
St Kilda v W Bulldogs - 1
Dockers v G Coast - 10
GWS Giants v Geelong - 24
Hawthorn v WC Eagles - 10
Carlton v Swans - 24

Is sitting on your arse for an extra couple of hours really that difficult? We're such a country of softc*cks! Whenever you travel overseas all you ever see are Aussies everywhere, you can try to get away from them but we are flying everywhere and dealing with it. Here an Aussie, there an Aussie, everywhere an Aussie, Aussie.

When it comes to football in Australia however, having to sit your arse down on an airplane is seen as absolutely debilitating, and in the case of travelling to and fro Perth almost death defying because it is a few hours longer (unlike athletes in other countries where travel is just considered part and parcel of playing professional sport).

I don't care about Brad.
Collingwood
vs. Richmond 37 points
Adelaide vs. Port Adelaide 13 points
Melbourne vs. Essendon 78 points
Brisbane vs. North Melbourne 115 points

GWS vs. Geelong - draw
Hawthorn vs. West Coast Eagles 27 points
Carlton vs. Sydney 25 points

North Melbourne by 115 at the Gabba.... Brrrrttttt

It has an effect on players. Instead of starting rehab your on a plane for 4 hours - getting home at 4am. The results of coming back from WA - especially off a 6 day break speak for themselves.
