Autopsy Round 2 vs Bravedogs. Things learnt

I don't like this argument. Mentally tough players HAVE to learn not to let setbacks affect them. When Luke Ablett kicked it to Cousins in 2005, we could have thrown in the towel but 21 blokes said right, we've still got plenty of time to win back the lead, rolled up their sleeves and got to work, and the result was a flag. As a professional you just have to learn to keep playing no matter what gets thrown at you.

Thats not always true at all,

Trying to look past the umps

Florent showed enough-appears to be quite intelligent and is a very, very good user of the ball

Hayword- very impressive, big kick and has a very good work ethic. will be very handy wjen he puts on some size.

Buddys two goals in 30 seconds, that was best 30 seconds ive seen by a player...ever.. no one else is/was capable of that

50 metres!
Nothing more.
Little bloke against big bloke who managed to accept multiple free kicks.

Lucky it was even a free imo

We lost the following; free kicks (18-31), contested possessions (153-169), tackles (74-84) and disposals (352-412) and yet I walked away feeling confident for the future, not only longer term, but for this season as well.

Some of the experienced players are struggling for form (and fitness?), the younger players mostly ran out of legs later in the game and we are conceding significantly more scores from the I50 entries that we normally do, yet I am comfortable that we have the talent, desire and endeavour to continue to compete and contend and that whilst obviously not ideal a 0-2 start, with the current depleted team, is far from a portent of a significant fall down the ladder.

One player I will mention who has received some mild criticism in this thread, but I believe no praise is Aliir.
A somewhat nervous start (and a horrible dropped mark), but yet again he demonstrated an ability to not drop his head, to take the game on and his ragdogging of million dollar Boyd was a sight to behold.
Aliir was playing only his 14th senior game tonight. I want to see him continue to take the game on, to fly for his marks, to use his strength, to show dare and leadership in the back half.
He is the future down back and I like he plays as if he knows it.
There's more to it than just disposals. When you are awarded a free kick you are also awarded a contested possession. When you have an easy kick it should be expected that you kick to another team mate resulting in at least one free kick. Take away the difference in free kicks and it's incredibly even. I'm pumped for what tonight has shown!

Can someone explain to me why the Jones hit was a 50 metre penalty? If I'm not mistaken it wasn't late so should have just been a free kick and report, but not a 50?

By the standards he set last year yes I agree as i was thinking that last week but his is still better than the average player that it happens too. He is just going and thats all unfortunately and also looks to be short of a gallop.

Mills was terrible last week. Towers was dropped for being that bad. He wasn't much better today. His only saving grace is that he played mids for some of the match.
Hayward and Florent look like absolute gems.

Sam Reid looks fantastic.

Jones and Hewett were very good in flashes.

Buddy was superhuman.

Jack looked off the pace.

Very proud of the team performance tonight. We had a very young team and looked down and out but nearly pinched it at the end. All of our youngsters stood up in a high intensity game - an invaluable experience for all of them. Our depth continues to grow despite the doubters.

During the call it got a run

Most pathetically officiated game of one-sided football I have ever seen. As a Swan, I'm devastated by the result but as a supporter of the game...I'm disgusted!

Puts you off watching the game

Ill watch sydney always but dont feel like watching other games after games like tonight and that umpiring

@ 5:26 in the afl grand final. No 50. No report. exact same circumstance. If jones goes, the afl tribunal system is truly FUBAR.

Not only that but he was reported for rough conduct!
I actually thought the report was fair enough. Left the ground and looked to have hit him high although that was based on replays I saw at the ground. I just don't understand what the 50 was for?

Ive got nothing. That was just beyond a joke.

The 50 was paid to Kennedy...

i retract that part of the statement then... what do you think of the comparison for the report?

I think the 50 and the report were both there

Unlucky tonight guys. I won't even give my 2 cents on the game, it's pretty much summed up in the first few pages of the thread. Thought I would say tho, Hayward looks a special player. Got a good one there

Wasn't so much a Grand Final Replay as a Grand Final Re Enactment!!

If you listen to the umpire in the background he said Cloke marked it before Jones made contact
