Autopsy Round 2 vs Bravedogs. Things learnt

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Our depth is better than most of us thought.
Cameron and Sinclair will be playing for a senior berth tomorrow.
Hanners, Parker & Jack very ordinary.
Newmans handball is as good as his kicking.
We are a much better side in dry conditions.
Doggies still chucking and umpires still sucking.

Must be hard for the players with umpiring

Would start to feel pointless trying

Should of tried harder last week instead

We've lost our last four games against the Bulldogs. Maybe something needs changing?

Huge performance by the Swans.
Re the umps:
Sydney got shafted in the GF but hung in until last 7 minutes
tonight de ja vu..Sydney somehow (and god knows how) hung in til late in last quarter even hitting the front....and then all the momentum shifting frees started up again for the Dogs.

Proud of the effort given everything that went against us. The early injury to Tippett and the umpiring - yuck!

- Reid was ridiculously good. Keep him centre half forward for the year and he'd have a 60+ goal season. Don't mess around and try to make him a swingman, he's a lethal combination with Buddy.
- Buddy is a freak. His last quarter patch was crazy.
- The young players Florent, Fox, Hayward showed some really promising signs
- Hanners and Parker must be seriously restricted through injury, and hate to say it but Jack is starting to look a bit like yesterday's player.

Looked a lot better this week overall, shown much more intensity and should have a decent year if we bring that effort.

If the AFL has any care for the wellbeing of the league they'd invest in improving the standard of umpiring. Make it full time, train them to do the job properly and stop ****ing around with the rules and interpretations every single year. They won't though, and nothing will ever change. At stages throughout the game the umpiring is so one-sided and inconsistent that the final result just seems a forgone conclusion and makes it so hard to enjoy.

To be fair 2 games were extremely close we lost one after the siren and another game by a kick.

They've handled the big moments better in all four games though, even ignoring umpire influence.

Apart from the umpiring. As is with all top teams our problem has always been skills and the mad tactic of bombing it into the forward line. Look at the two teams that get have really gotten a hold of us over the last 3-4 years. It was the hawks and the bulldogs. What do they have in common? Good skills, especially kicking and composure. We set up an extra man behind the ball in defence anticipating the long ball but it keeps on coming in short and into the space we leave in the 30-50 range. That's what's costing us the most. Others are mostly a personnel problem.

Some good signs. We've still got fighting spirit and will never just go away. Hayward looked good, Reid is going gangbusters and Buddy can still blow a game apart.

Aliir was off the pace and Laidler has faded badly in the last 12 months. We missed Rampe immensely. Parker and Hanners tried to work into the game in the second half but we need more. Kennedy tried hard but was very sloppy.

With the ins we've got coming back we have an enormous amount of improvement in us.

Was in the crowd tonight, can't say i heard anything racist, but not sure why everyone was booing Bud though. Maybe the media picked up on the booing and thought "Goodes all over again" ?

I HATED you guys, but at least it was always your best 22 that beat us.

I hate blaming umpires. I think it's the easiest excuse to make for a loss.

But bloody hell our matches against the Dogs make it hard.

Honest question. What did you think of the Dogs unfurling their Premiership flag against your side?

Personally i think it's disgusting and disgraceful. Idgaf if it's the first home game of the season, do the honourable thing and do it the next home game. It can be done just like Geelong did when they waited to play at skilled stadium.

AFL are partly to blame for the fixturing though.

We got smashed in some key stats:

412 disposals to 351 (40 less kicks)

84 tackles to 74, despite having less of the ball. 30 of those tackles were in the 1st quarter; our pressure dropped right off.

95 marks to 62.
Of those, uncontested marks were 76 to 48.

The dogs run hard for those uncontested leads and we don't go with them.

We somehow lost the hitouts, but clearances were dead even, so that's good.

0-2, we made the grand final in 2014 with a 0-2 start and we looked even more hopeless then.

Time for the boys to kickstart the season proper against the Pies

They did it because they're a pitiful and disgraceful campaigners. Same with the AFL.
