Sometimes when I'm at the game I wonder if I'm just being biased in regards to the umpiring. Sounds like watching the replay won't prove me wrong on this occasion.

25-2 lead. Nek minnut 20 - 6 freekicks against. End up 27pts down or something. Umps take foot off pedal. Free kicks 5-4 against (so normal rate of frees) we gain momemtum and claw back a 4 pt lead.

Sigh.

Hayward and Florent look like absolute gems.

Sam Reid looks fantastic.

Jones and Hewett were very good in flashes.

Buddy was superhuman.

Jack looked off the pace.

Very proud of the team performance tonight. We had a very young team and looked down and out but nearly pinched it at the end. All of our youngsters stood up in a high intensity game - an invaluable experience for all of them. Our depth continues to grow despite the doubters.

Yeah I'm with you. If Hawthorn played the Bulldogs tomorrow I'd be cheering passionately for Hodge, Gunston, Rioli and co. Just doesn't seem right does it.

We were outplayed for the most part but showed some fight to stay in it which was pleasing.

The Bont is an absolute beast at the stoppages, our midfield looks undersized in comparison and struggled to compete physically.

Franklin and Reid >>> Franklin and Tippett.

Agreed 100%. They deserved the win fully. It would just be nice to have competent umpires that rule out the what ifs.

I'm kinda glad Tippet is out. Because I don't think he earns his place week to week. Obviously I don't want him injured, but it is now a great opportunity for Cameron to come in because I think, given the chance, Cameron up forward can be just as good as Tippet.

General comment about AFL. There is no incentive these days to get in first and pick up the ball. More likely than not you'll be pinged for it and get your arm ripped out of your socket for the trouble. Reckon the boys should practise knocking it on without really taking possession. Was I seeing things or did I see a couple of tunnelball disposals from the Dogs again? But I'm really proud of the boys for not throwing in the towel when the Dogs got out to a 22 point lead. New boys all did their job.

And.....I'm confident we can get our season back on track after that performance. Get into the 8 and ride our form/luck in the finals like the Dogs did last year.

If Sinclair could agree to simply make the transition from slapping the ball with his open palms to wrapping his fingers around the ball and holding it (in Aussie Rules it's known as a "mark", I believe), I'd be quite prepared to see him back in the team, because apart from this one (admittedly rather alarming) deficiency, I didn't think he was that bad.
