I also learnt not to go to the main board after a lopsided umpiring performance against the swans. Most neutrals who argued our case were shot down by self-entitled bullflog supporters, justifying it basically because of COLA, and any swannies fan was met with the sour grapes response.

I now officially hate bullflogs supporters more than any other team, which is crazy because I've always thought the dawks fans were the worst.

I came into the game having very little belief we could win. It was actually a refreshing feeling in a way, it meant I could just watch the game and feel not as much stress as I normally do and just enjoy seeing some new players and guys like Bud and JPK play and take it for what it was. But I'm very glad to say that I was a stressed-out mess by the end of the game because the side worked their arses off in a much better collective effort than last week. To have to do it one man down made it even better. So that's a great sign to me. Real endeavour shown.

The new guys were also a real delight to watch. Hayward shut me right up. In the week I said there's no way I'd have picked him and that he wasn't ready physically or mentally. But he was fantastic. Showed poise, pace and real skill. Fantastic debut and I did not see it coming. Florent did another handful of really, really good things. Newman I thought fit in perfectly and, as many of us have thought, could stay in the senior team for a long while if he continues with that kind of play. Tackled really hard and hit targets consistently. Exactly what we need at HB. Fox did enough in the first half to indicate to me that he has a future. He was the quietest of the new brigade. What I liked most about all of them is that they were hitting targets and making really good decisions. They were doing what guys like Towers, Cunningham and Foote have not been doing. Making clear-headed decisions quickly with effective disposals.

Last night emphasised why Franklin is such a remarkable player. You could only claim he played well at all for about 1.5 quarters and yet he finished with 22 touches, 11 marks and 4 goals. Very nearly dragged us over the line. Reid was brilliant again. I don't expect he'll be this good all year but if we get a season of consistency from him at CHF we'll be in really good stead. Actually looking forward to see how Darcy Cameron fits in next week (assuming he replaces Tippett and not Sinclair).

JPK was beset upon every time he went within 10m of the ball but still had a steady influence. I love Jake Lloyd's will to run and work hard. He never stops. Good game by Hewett as a genuine midfielder, faded in the 2nd half but his first half was really good. Aliir started the game pretty scrappily but he looked just about his normal self towards the end of the game which is a huge positive.

Biggest negative to me is that it's only round 2 and Jack, Hannebery and Parker all look sore and nowhere near 100% already. Parker I think will be spending more time forward over the next few weeks because he looked dangerous there last night but his limited pace around the midfield is noticeable with his knee. Hannebery was better this week than last week so hopefully he's improving. Jack looks really lame, he could barely run in the last quarter. Mills has also not started the year very well. Dunno if he has a niggle as well but he doesn't look as composed or mobile as last year, 2nd year blues or not. Also, despite him being a long-term favourite of mine, I'm a little concerned with Nick Smith. Just a little, not a lot. He doesn't seem quite as reliable defensively as he has been in the past. Just something I'll try to watch.

Parker had an arthroscope for his knee but Hannebery didn't have anything done.

Hanners needs some help around the stoppages. He can smash his way around like JPK, but he needs some blocking to break out and give us some attacking play.

He just looks like he's doing Tom Mitchell's role. In and under and only able to push a 3m handpass under pressure and often into a turnover.

Just wanted to say that Sydney really impressed me.

Whatever it is they always seem to be able to bring in new players who contribute.

Looking at the teams before the game, I honestly felt Sydney were no chance, but the efforts of Florent, Hayward and Newman were really impressive. The overall pressure that Sydney applied early really made it a hot game.

While playing so many inexperienced players is always difficult for the win/loss column, on that performance they should be a competitive side all year.

Look for to the next clash in June.

Arguing with a Doggies fan about lop sided umpiring is like arguing with Malcolm Roberts about climate change. No matter what you have to back it up they'll deny it.

I actually appreciated the comment.

Sydney fans are rightly annoyed about the umpiring though but a genuine comment like yours shouldn't be met with that response.

That said you can understand us being a little under the weather after being rogered by the blokes who should see their sponsor today in yellow!

Was in the crowd tonight, can't say i heard anything racist, but not sure why everyone was booing Bud though. Maybe the media picked up on the booing and thought "Goodes all over again" ?

I think in terms of the booing is more of a respect thing, there's a lot of hate towards Buddy because hes so damn good
Happen to Gazza Jr, Pendles and any other elite player that's played against Dogs

If racist comments said, should be ban from the club but doubt it was related to that

Hannebery, Parker and Jack were all disgustingly bad. They all got shown up by players who have played almost no games at all in the AFL. If anything the kicking of all three has gotten even worse.
