Hey Cats fans.

I havnt been able to find this info out anywhere else so hopefully you can help me.

With this being Geelongs first home game of the season, will they be unveiling the premiership flag at this game or waitning until the first game at Kardinia park?

Here you go Groindog :p

Have a go in this thred .....

Cheers Mate
Hmmm, maybe I should have chosen to come over for the following game instead. :)
That certainly aint gonna help our cause. Oh well.

Good luck!

Sounds like you guys are a very confident of thumping us, should be a cracker of a mtch :thumbsu:

I reckon we've got enough leg speed and endurance to give you a game. If Ottens doesn't play then Hille will be given license to roam forward and Laycock probably play a bit more ruck.

The game, as usual, will be won in the middle though. Essendon have pace but don't have the hardened bodies Geelong do. If Geelong can hurt Essendons midfield.... physically, with clashes and brute strength then Geelong will win. If Essendons flashy players are given the opportunity to dance around and get the ball to the forward line Essendon will give it a shake.

If the midfield is break-even Essendon will win. More likely though that Geelong will win in the midfield and Essendons defenders in Fletcher and Michael will be too slow to keep up with Geelongs faster forwards.

I think it will be a close match but Geelong should win comfortably. Won't be a walk in the park..... but a Geelong win by 2-5 goals is likely.

Scarlett has done a great job on Lloyd in recent times and they may struggle to find other avenues to goal.

Last time Lloyd played against Geelong was 2005.

It will be game of two halves.

The game will be won and lost on the scoreboard.. and also on the football field...

They are a fast unit, but a very slightly built midfield shouldn't pose too many problems.

Load of bollocks that somehow has been propagated in recent days.

Watson, McVeigh, Houli, Lonergan, Johnson, Nash are not slightly built. Dempsey coming of the HBF is slightly built.

Davey and Jetta are small but still fairly solid for their height.

I'm still not sure where this idea that our midfield is slight has come from, yes there are some small guys in their, but there are also some big bodies as well.

I think if we apply enough pressure and intensity we should get the upper hand in the midfield, i think we have the bigger bodies going through there. If the dons get their running game going it should be a nice high scoring affair.

This weeks prediction : Close game until 3 qtr time then the cats come home with it. Stokes to kick a lazy 4.

um cockiness! gunna love it on sunday when we smash you blokes,

Stooooooooooooooooooopid

Lonergan, Jetta, Davey, Houli and Dempsey compared to the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Ling and Corey are slight.

We've seen it before ourselves when those guys were up against Brisbane some 4-5 seasons ago. Just too slight and would get pushed off the ball too easily.

I'm not saying your midfield is shit, I like the look of quite a few of them. I'm saying they probably don't have the same strength as Geelongs midfielders yet and for that reason may struggle.

You're living in fantasy land our MEN will slaughter your boys. I predict the game will over as a contest by half time, 50 points up or more.

Jobe - 90 kg
Stanton - 84 kg
McVeigh - 86 kg
Houli - 85 kg

Jetta - 72 kg
Dempsey - 72 kg
Dyson- 81 kg
Davey - 72 kg
Winderlinche - 80 kg
Monfries - 78 kg

It's not the top 4 that are the worry it is the guys after that.

I think Ling can make Jobe ineffectual after that I can't see where your clearances will come from.

I think the matchups will be:
Ling to Jobe
Enright to Stanton
Selwood to Houli

With Essendon deciding the others.

I'd like to see Ling working very hard to get forward after the stoppages as Jobe has a questionable motor and Ling is deadly in front of the sticks.
I think both teams will be happy with Selwood on Houli and it should be an exciting battle.
Enright looks an ideal match up for Stanton who can be a match winner on his day.

Just like you were meant to slaughter us last year...well you did in the end, but we stuck right with you for the first 3 quaters until injuries to key players on the night (Davey and Hird) and dropping our bundle after you guys slammed on some kick goals to start the last quarter.

In the lead up to that game, it was meant to be a matter of how many and that we had no hope of competing with you.

I'm not saying I expect to beat you guys, I just wondering where this idea that our midfield is "slight" has come from.

You guys should be able to beat us, and beat us fairly easily (4-5 goals) given that you are the reigning premiers and we are coming of a 3rd straight bottom 5 finish.

All I was saying is that we do have some big bodies in the midfield to get the ball out to the smaller, slight running players.

And I agree with DanA...I reckon the key matchup of the game will be Cameron Ling on Jobe Watson.

Well said. :thumbsu:

I am so pumped for this match , love watching this Bomber side play , Last years game was a fantastic contest with there young kids and now a little older they should really be in there for a good challenge. Although I think we will be too good and too experienced for them it should be one of the games of the year for us.

i read someone said scarlett did well on lloyd well he averages 3or 4 goals on scarlett so i wouldnt say thats holding him,but geelong win something and every player is a champion

Last two times I can remember where Lloyd kicked 'bags' on Scarlett were in games we won, and He kicked the majority in the last quarter.

I know they are still goals, but I would rather Lloyd kick 3 goals on Scarlett in the last quarter where we are up by 6 goals, rather than him kick 3-4 in the first half.

Woke up in a sweat this morning.

WE NEED KENT! We are nothing against Essendon without him.

It was strange, Fletcher did struggle against Kent Kingsley for some reason, he has a few bogey players.

Saverio Rocca was one, Kent Kingsley was one and Nathan Thompson is the other one I can think of.
