I wish I was as confident as some of my fellow Catters in this thread. We badly ran out off puff about half way through the third quarter last week and we have more than a few out. Hille looked in great touch against the Roos wheras sadly, Blakey and West did not.

I think the extra days preparation will be invaluable but I reckon this game will be a lot closer than many of us think. Cats by about three goals only.

regards,

REB

I can understand what your saying.. BUT, Port Adelaide are a VERY good side and they gave us all they had... at home I might add. Essendon at the dome is not the same affair... Port are a far better side.

All this hype regarding Essendon is garbage... The coach and president came out and said they hardly expect the side to crack the top 8 in '08. There you go... It's just media hype. Punishment time!!!

A good questions is... When was the last time a team kicked 19 goals against Geelong? I can't recall it happening for a long time, i could be wrong.

Biggest score against us last year was 18.10.118 v Kangaroos round 1.
In 06 there were 3 occasions a team kicked 19+ goals.
they all occured in Geelong's 10+ goal beltings against Collingwood, Hawthorn and Adelaide.
If you wanna go back further, in 05 it only happened once.
And 19 goals was achieved once against us in 04.

So 5 times since 2004, Geelong has had 19 goals scored against them.
Not bad!

Anyone interested in reading a comical piece of pose regarding how bad our team is...

"Darren Milburn! For years he was one of the most under-rated players in the competition. Not any more. He has become a soft possession-whore! A liability!"... it goes on like this...

Here is the link:

http://www.bomberblitz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39878&st=0

Also worth noting is a suspect “Essendon supporter’s” reply outlining where this learned poster may not be entirely precise in his assumptions. (its post number 37, page 3).

Good for a laugh anyway.

im pretty sure that was all tongue in cheek and from memory he mentions that later in the thread.

Hey guys,

Just got one thing to say to some Geelong fans that think they will smash us.

Don't Underestimate the Bombers. We gave you a great shake last year lads and that was without some of the quick and pacy players we have now.

Gonna be one hell of a game and a great test for our young kids and as a previous post said men vs boys. David vs Goliath sounds better.

Although I think that the Cats will get up, wouldn't be surprised if we pip ya ;) good luck guys

All this men vs boys and "our kids" crap that the Bumbers fans are pulling is a load of twat. The Cats had the 4th youngest team last weekend, hardly a bunch of old men...

Man Child's* like Selwood & Hawkins don't count as kids.

I think the bombers fans are referring to the cats body sizes and shapes i.e we are built like men, muscle mass etc. not that we are old

One thing I know... Essendon played a HALF of decent footy against a team that were terrible!! Essendon got absolutely crushed early, but Roos couldn't put the score on the board. Geelong will not let this happen I can guarantee.

The nerve / arrogance to think these chumps are a chance.... That midfield may be fast but you need to win the ball first, thats the key. Our bodies are much bigger, more skillful and much more dangerous by hand / foot. We are stronger ALL over the ground... No chance for the Bombers.

Be prepared to be brought back down to earth where you belong... you are not a premiership contender!!

first of all we played well for 3/4 of the game last week... we won three quarters and i think teams can be excused for having a poor start to the game especially in round 1.

second we are not a physically weak team, we have players like mcveigh, JJ, watson, houli (his not a skinny kid anymore), slattery, welsh (although he is not playing this w/e), even players like mcphee running through the midfeild, to add to that we have a ruck combination of hille/laycock compared to your combo of west/blake (given ottens isnt playing)... i wouldnt be saying you are too superior in terms of physicality in the midfeild

thirdy i dont see any reasonable essendon supporter saying that we are a premiership contender we are sayign we wont get flogged by geelong and that we shouldnt be underestimated. given we often play well against your side. if you think that geelong are sooo good that they will go the whole year not losing a game you are mistaken. i guarantee geelong will be beaten this year (hell you didnt win convincingly last week) and if your team go in with the same veiw as you it will be this week.

They won't be complacent just confident

Who cares?? The facts from my previous post still remain... and they are exactly that, FACTS. Our bodies are far bigger in the midfield.. Ablett / Bartell / Ling / Corey are all nudging 90kg... The players you've mentioned are not comparable to 4AA's and the rising star of '07 so quit it.

Bottom line.... the media have blown up the Bombers with all this 'Speed' talk, its rubbish. Look what all these undersized speedy players did for the Bulldogs in '07??? NOTHING!! They traded a heap of them..

Re Firstly: I thought the Roos out played Essendon in the first half but were unlucky on the scoreboard.

Re: Secondly: I would say you are physically a very weak side, even the midfeilders you mention are on average 4 kg lighter than ours. Mcphee is a Princes, do you remeber what happened when he ran in to Hawkins? Laycock is also piss weak, I saw a photo of him with his shirt off taken about two months ago, he had man boobs.

Re Thirdly: You don't often play well against us. YOu have lost 4 of the last 5. We may be beaten but it won't be by a bottom 4 side like Essendon.
