Yeah ,some of the knee-jerk, sky is falling , oh woe is us crap makes me ill.

God help some of the contributors around here if we really hit on bad times again ala Bears circa late 80' early 90'S or the agonisingly bad Leppa years when we were so terrible as to be totally irrelevant
Come on Luthor . Who's knee jerking ?

We're a good team now , hopefully playing finals ,expectations are higher as they should be.

Watching Fitzroy lose every game for 3 years was bad times. But they were fun times as well. And good for your resilience.

Reality isn't defeatist emotional.

We're all optimistic and still in it. Even if we play poorly , make mistakes and choke it doesn't mean it's not rectifiable and we can't do a whole lot better next time.

Everyone understands the difficulty and luck required to be successful. But pumping yourself up when you've been fair at best just doesn't wash.

Suck it up. It's a lot easier psychologically to get better if you accept you've been ordinary than to pretend you were good.

When we get to finals it's another level of effort required to win matches. Positive talk won't do the job.

But negative talk will?

Where have any of the players or the Coach "pumped" themselves up?

I'm at a total loss as to what narrative you expect from the playing group and/or the coach after such a shattering loss?

Put yourself in Fagan's shoes and tell us what should have been said after that loss

He should've said we played exceptionally well but unfortunately weren't able to keep it up for more than a half . We had players who had issues and weren't able to see out the game. We're all disappointed in our performance in the last half. We had many chances to win the game and didn't take them. The good thing is that we know we're a competitive side if we can play consistently well over 4 quarters.

Not , we had all these guys cramping up and injured, Richmond is a great team you know , these things happen in footy not much you can do about it.

But I already know that. Don't you?

Pretty sure most of our supporters do too.

It's just the same straight bat responses that you get from all clubs today.

Why is this such a big deal for a handful of you on this forum.

Robust conversations that do not in any way resemble these statements by the coach are going on within the club for sure.

Do you think I'm a shot at it ?

I think that would've made everyone a lot happier.

But being a coach is a tough gig. His stomach's probably churning. He's got to front up to the media. He looked half ropeable and his lips were curling up.

The media guys were hopeless. Asked him Mickey Mouse questions . I think they're petrified of him . I really do.

Exactly.

What is this obsession by some around here that their own disappointments have to be verbalised exactly by any or all players who get interviewed after a loss?

We're on a blog commenting about what players and coaches said. Their comments were at the far end of the spectrum that's all. We know it's all BS .

Anything else to talk about ?

Bring it up.

Just want an acknowledgement that we're not playing at the level we'd like
Just as I'm about to go to bed you pop up with some common sense Nathan.

A little honesty goes a long way to turning the ship around.

Tbh I don't really care what he says ,except I think the messaging isn't what the supporters or players would benefit from hearing publicly.

It's no big deal.

Acknowledged..

Feel better now?

But where has anyone suggested that we are playing to the "level we'd like"?

Has there ever been a coach or player who has declared that they are playing their absolute best level?

It honestly makes me laugh that people expect club officials and players to mirror the defeatist emotional analysis on BigFooty.
Yeah it's hilarious that supporters want the players to feel the pain of losing like they do what absolute losers if only every supporter were bandwagoners instead who didn't give a shit about the club.

Presser:

We're not playing at the level we'd like right now.

We're just taking it week by week.

.......

And there. You're happy.

Give me a spell.
Newsfalsh:

Coach declares his Team is playing at their optimal level and that no other side can hope to beat them in the foreseeable future

Says his team will be undefeated Premiers for the next 21 years.

AFL in crisis as the other 17 clubs threaten to fold

Is it just me or does it feel like the coach and the players doesn't give a shit?

Most do but not all - how could anyone say McStay does. Does he care about the club or how we go next year - absolutely not- the manner in which he is liking things on Collingwood and its players socials, Id say he cares more about how they are travelling than the Lions are, so anyone can spare me if they want to say otherwise.

Where is McStay "liking" things on Collingwood? and/or on its players socials?

Genuine question

So what would have been an "honest" response then?
Being at the game on Sunday my honest response would be " we felt in the first half that we capitalized on Richmond's skill errors at certain times to put scoreboard pressure on them. We were playing very well but Richmond were not at their best with disposal. I thought our pressure was a contributing factor to that. We were able to chip the ball around at our own leisure and transition the ball through the middle of the ground at will especially trying to get the ball in Kiddy's hands with his elite disposal running through the midfield. Our connection with our forwards seemed good due to the time we had with ball in hand to make good decisions especially the first quarter. In the second half Richmond turned up the heat by applying alot more manic pressure when we had the ball which caused us to panic a bit with ball and we started our bombing of the ball down the line and into our forward line which is not what we were planning to do. We felt Richmond wanted to speed up the game abit by playing a bit more manic football which we could not match in leg speed especially Bolton. When Richmond were coming i was disappointed we could not stop the flow or change momentum of the game. This is where i will ask our leaders in the club to stand up and be counted. Who is going to try and say i will drag this team with me. Who's going to be our leader on the field to do something to make the others want to follow. Even though we were a few soldiers down with injuries I still emphasized to the boys that we had our opportunities to win the game as we had plenty of opportunities at shots on goals but we didn't take our chances and unfortunately we lacked some composure and our skill errors let us down. To finish of we were up by 42 points and if we want to be a fair dinkum contender we can't lose those games. Blokes need to stand up when needed and if they don't then we will look at our boys in the 2's to see who can fill the void. "

I think both Fagan & Eric should have come out in the foetal position sucking their thumb & only taking it out to heave a big sigh and to say we are s**t & should all walk away from the game. ;) That would make me feel much better about myself and the club I support....in my opinion.

You're a total genius at extrapolating what someone says and trying to make out it's something more bizarre to pretend that what they said in the first place has no validity.

And ignoring the gist or original content totally.

That's a mouthful but an honest assessment of what actually occurred.

I suppose we could ignore it. I'm sure they wouldn't be internally.
