That makes sense if that was the case but if so it would've been smarter to have Payne as the sub. At least he can run around a bit and replace a tall forward or back. And provide a tall option on the wings with McStay rucking on the remote chance that Oscar went down.
Or if one of our talls is such a worry that we have to play a ruckman as a sub because our coaching department is confident one of them will go down then don't play that tall, give them a rest and use Fort and/or Payne in the first 22.

I think both Fagan & Eric should have come out in the foetal position sucking their thumb & only taking it out to heave a big sigh and to say we are s**t & should all walk away from the game. ;) That would make me feel much better about myself and the club I support....in my opinion.
Is talking about how good Richmond are particulalry based on there poor past month of exposed form supposed to make us feel better though or the loss more pallatable?

It’s not all bad for us though.
The same Richmond who everybody rates again after beating us on the weekend, gave up a 40 point lead to Gc 3 weeks ago.
So there is still hope for us yet.

I think what we're looking for is an acknowledgement from the club that they understand that we have serious problems that need addressing. The last 2 months we've had banal platitudes and more learnings than you can point a spoon at.

My concern is that the club refuse to acknowledge the fundamental issues we're facing. It might be too late to change them this year. If we'd tweaked the gameplan a month ago, maybe we could be better in time for finals.

I'm not expecting them to come out and say "we can't win it this year", but honestly, I don't see how we can.

Saying "in hindsight, maybe we should have done X" isn't cutting it because we knew 4 months ago we weren't in form. We knew 3 months ago that the gameplan wasn't working, and we knew 2 months ago that the defence had fallen apart. In foresight, Fort was a bad choice. In foresight, we lack speed and spread. In foresight, we are definitely at finalist level, we are definitely not at premiership level.

There's still some hope that we can turn it around if we get all our players fit and well. As long as we acknowledge internally our shortcomings and have a strategy to overcome them. For me one issue is that Andrews , Gardiner and Adams seem half shot , Answerth isn't quite up to it imo ,and now Starc has an injury issue. If any problems the first 3 have is just imaginary and they're all physically ok then it really enhances our chances. That's as far as the backline goes.

I'm not looking for the club to acknowledge that at all. At this point of the season they should be concentrating on winning the next match not causing distractions by kowtowing to disgruntled fans. That is why clubs have post season reviews.

I think what he's trying to say is that those at the club surely don't believe their rhetoric and are actually acting on what the issues really are , if they're able to.

Looking at how some of our players barely got through Sunday's game and how others were not showing their normal capacities in the second half ,yes ,the total focus should be on getting as many of our good players as we can up for this Sunday and trying to win that match any way we can.

It really doesnt matter what the club's rhetoric is at this point. The club's sole focus right now is to get the team into the finals in the best possible position and not have to worry about explaining every decision they make to fans stamping their feet like toddlers. Nothing the fans say now makes an iota of difference to the outcome of this season and they should stop pretending it does and let the professionals at the club get on with the next game. Save the recriminations until the season is over.

We are guaranteed to play finals - probably pretty close to locking in a home final which gives us a fairly good chance of winning at least one final and making it so SF/PF stage. That is a month away. Fages just watched us have a devastating loss but also probably put together the best quarter of footy this squad has ever played.

You think with a team thats going to go fairly deep in September that just showed it can play premiership level footy - that hes going to come out and say its no use, we arent up to it? His job is to instil belief.

I don't think anyone sensible is asking them to explain every decision they make . Or indeed any.

They've just expressed concern that the rhetoric coming out isn't the reality and hoping that behind the scenes they've got full awareness of what the issues have been. And have the fortitude to take the most likely successful possible remedies.

We all want to win games. There are many conflicting views as to how they best go about it. Which is why we put our ideas on a blog.

You're basing your argument on the false premise that your concept of reality aligns with mine or dare i say it, anyone else's. I doubt that you are claiming to be the arbiter of reality.

Don't get that.

I'm explaining why some people are expressing their views . Their reality is legitimate to them. Yours is legitimate to you. The concepts of reality don't have to align. We're expressing viewpoints.

No one's the arbiter. If the reality was self evidently clear cut no one would feel the need to say anything.

This 110%, coaches need to give their own players a boot up the arse sometimes but you need to be careful about how you do it - if you alienate your entire playing group you just completely screw up all the hard work that has been done from preseason to a weekly basis.

We did not get the job done, we collapsed in the 4th quarter - and there’s been a few times where we’ve stepped off the gas. So that’s something that the focus needs to be placed on.

A lot of people raise the effort question but I would question if it’s actually a fitness thing because players definitely put the effort in early on.

We will be playing finals.. I really hope we win one to give the team some mental belief.
As big games and Finals we rolled over way too many times. Need to take the next step not losses we should of won.
I really hope the team does take learnings from this losses to Tigers, Melb, Hawks, Freo and Cats.
The Dogs finals losses, GWS Loss.
Play like that team did you know where we actually beat Tigers in a final.
As we often play too much like the team who got smashed the week after against the Cats in the prelim.
Yes we been close in two finals, we also been smashed in 3 and only one win.

I still cannot believe Pickett got off against Bailey.
Guy coughing up blood and off to hospital from a off the ball thing.
Tigers do come across a bunch of Snipers who fall over when the wind blows.
I was laughing so much the other week when Jack fell down like someone shot him.
Ump said was your own player, I assume was only a finger tip and Jack went down
Balta was pushed over by the wind last week and what happened nothing

I think we should just put the 2nd half down to covid fatigue ;)

Move onto the Blues game and hope all have recovered for this weeks game

Good point. Covid fatigue is real, can definately see that as a contributing factor.
