Who was umpire number 9.

On the train home the Freo fans were bagging out one of them and I said "number 9", EVERYONE agreed. It was a bipartisan view he was totally useless. Soft frees that should never be paid going both ways.

He stood out as having an absolute shocker and NFI.

When both sets of fans say the same thing its pretty much on the money.
That would be Matt Stevic who has umpired the most grand finals in history.

I don’t know what any of this means but ok.

If you don’t think kids flourish when being asked to do less as opposed to when to do more…I dunno. Do you think Murphy Reid would be this good at West Coast?

Can you work out if you don’t like me because I’m too positive or if I’m too critical? It will halve our interactions which seems like a win-win.

Look is I can wear shit in here every day for posting about Cripps you can take a gentle ribbing about the shit you talk about all those players mentioned, it is kind of weird how much vitriol you have for Reids draft class. I don't mind it. It's not a criticism really I actually do find it amusing during watch threads.

You are probably correct that Reid would probably be average playing for us, I've pondered the Reid vs Allan question over the season. Completely happy we took Allan with our pick. Can admit though that Reid is a bloody good player, credit where its due he deserves the rising star. He's been a match winner for them in games this season so I'd disagree about him being their 20th picked or something.

It doesn't hurt anymore coz its like watching a replay every week

Its not even "hope we win" anymore.... its "hope this isn't the 100 point loss day"
I think we all believe there's a slight chance every week. And to be fair... there is.

I need to take up gambling instead for my own sanity.

Reading these posts of people losing their proverbial shit because we aren't very good right now is like seeing people complain because the sun is out. Everyone knew we'd be in for a rough year this year considering it's a new gameplan, Minis first year, We have pretty much the same cattle but older from last year.

We may have predicted some more wins but that would have been predicated on guys like Allen, Gov, Yeo, Waterman and Kelly having good seasons, not retiring/being bad at footy/Injured/Imploding.

Despite the results there has been clear improvement from the kids and in gameplan and it'll only improve with time, changing of personnel and experience.

i truly cannot believe i'm saying this, i come in peace.

you've turned a corner. brayshaw didn't become good until his 4th season. many other players don't become good consistent midfielders until they are 23 years old (same as my example above). your midfield is 2-3 years too young (which might mean 2-3 more years of smashings). but unlike last year you actually have talent. i don't know half of those kids names i watched today.

but tall kid (jobe someone in the crowd said i think). hes good. reminds me a bit of amiss or the port player who kicked 40 a few years ago.
tyler dewar. hes good
hough he will be a decent defensive midfielder. i'm unsure about his ceiling. however i suspect he will transition back to defence similar to worsfold did back in the day.
harley reid only gets 15 touches a game. but will be a jet. i remember petracca (who has similar body type took a while to become match fit).
hewitt, pretty good as well. maybe its just me. but maybe squeezed out as a midfielder by the time you guys next make finals. try him on the halfback flank.
hall is a real goer.
ginbey will be a fine backman for years to come.
harry edwards has turned himself into a best 22 player.
tom mcarthy along with reid is an A grade talent.
archer reid.
liam baker and jack graham are young enough and motivated enough to be real contributors going forward.

you actually have real green shoots now. i didn't think last year. thought you had harley, ginbey then nothing. the fun part of rebuilding begins now. young kids growing into men, who take clubs back to finals

Freo probably 2 goals a quarter better side than us so yeah, a nothing game really.

They are a 10 to 12 goal better side than us and the next Derby win is a long way off.

Pretty rare feat of ours to have put together a side that lacks both skills and pace, making it doubly hard to rebuild.

But looking forward to having elite mids hitting Shanahan lace out in a few years time.

Owies, classic case of not looking at why he was successful at Carlton and recognising that we have a completely different fwd structure…… morons.

I'm sorry. We don't do rational football discussion in here. Unless the sky is falling, we're not interested.

(Jokes. Good analysis and thanks for popping in with some encouragement. My only critique is that Harry Edwards didn't play today though your point is accurate.)

thanks mate

ok so that's like 2.5 to 3 goals a quarter then... my bad

I'd much rather our list than that of say Carlton who before the start of next season will have

Newman 33
Cripps 31
Saad 31
Williams 31
Acres 30
Hewett 30
Curnow 29
McKay 28
Weitering 28

How's their list going to look in a few years with no picks this year and one draft to start a rebuild before Tassie enter the competition?

We might suck right now but we're a few years into our list rebuild and should hopefully be a lot further down the line before the the Devils come in.

There's a few clubs that are going to hit the decline at the worst possible time.

They may be down for a year or two, but what has happened to us is, honestly, unprecedented.

Its going to be a long time before we see a fall from grace as bad as this. We were premiers 7 years ago, and since than have basically been fighting for wooden spoon in 5 of those years, breaking every conceivable worst ever record on our way, with very very faint light at the end of the tunnel.

Carlton also have the benefit of being a big Vic club and all the advantages that come with that. We don't.

We shouldn't be pointing the finger at or whataboutism any other club until we actually start being competitive again

Unfortunately people I don't think the real pain has started yet. If we don't get a older midfielder and better ruckman we will not improve a great deal n the next few years. Imagine if we come LAST for the next three years. It is a possibility
Yep the club has gone backwards yet again this year and there's been no signs of improvement from a big picture perspective. A couple of promising kids have been in display, but overall its nothing but a train wreck of a season. Agree we will get worse next year not better.

Utter shit.

The signs of improvement are obvious.

We belong in the AFL now. That's how far Mini was starting back from.

Massive negative is on the AFL. The way games are officiated is making games (neutral games also) near on unbearable to watch. Not talking today exclusively but in general, these morons at afl house are slowly but surely ruining the sport.

Between the total lack of integrity, pathetic media and dog wash umpiring, afl is headed for the bin.

Will always love and support my eagles, but fk me.

Me constantly showing vitriol about Harley’s draft class?

McKercher is a crab whenever I watch North, Watson is a flog and I doubt I’m the only person on the internet who thinks that, and beyond that I couldn’t pick the rest out them out of a lineup of one.

Genuinely not even sure who else was in the cohort. As far as light ribbing directled my way this one might be one of the more misplaced?

I’ve just googled the class and I reckon there’s about four non Eagles I have an opinion of, several of which I doubt I’ve ever posted (Morris and Freijah play good footy, better off saving the server space that posting that scorcher of a take).

Maybe but it won't be much better next year. We belong in the AFL what the ****?
Yeah, and we didn't under Simpson.

Lets give Mini a break here. Done wonders so far considering we literary looked like a wafl side playing in the AFL 2 years ago.

Not to mention the fact that in spite of all this, Harley wants to re-sign as he believes.

We have won one game this year and that is backwards. After four years of hell there is almost nothing pointing to improvement. The only positive this year is the back of Simpson and a semi combative style, but rest assured we are at least 10 or more quality AFL players short of a list.
