I dont get this school of thought.
- He passed his concussion test
- From reports he trained strongly yesterday
- We flew him over

I doubt we'd e flying him all the way to Melbourne if we didn't intend to play him...

2 knocks to the head in 2 weeks is one reason I'm thinking Pav might miss. and we have also bought in 2 forwards for 2 defenders, which will alter our structures quite a lot (and Ross does like to stick to his structures).

If Pav misses, then we will likely bring in a tall (unless raining). Tabs has flown over but has struggled to date playing deep. After Mayne had to play deep to cover Pav last week, RTB suggested we should be Playing Mayne deep.

Therefore, if Pav misses, how about play Mayne at FF and bring Tabs into CHF where he can roam around a bit and use his tank?

Yeah he's a creature of habit with structure..., but I'm curious about these ins.

I haven't seen much of Duffy at Peel, but I'm curious as to just how quick he is. I've wanted more closing speed around the ground for ages now and both croz and Duffy are supposedly pretty quick (haven't seen croz run down too many times). Both are half forward types to my mind, with croz being most damaging on a forward wing.

Duffy however is a hard player for me to pin down. He seems to have this knack for being invisible.

I admit I haven't seen him play very much, but In the games I've seen, he seems to be pretty good at losing his man, finding space, pouncing on the ball from out of nowhere and jagging a goal somehow given barely half a chance... which might make him quite damaging in a forward pocket. He doesn't strike me as being particularly fast or classy with the ball, but he somehow finds it up forward and kicks goals fairly regularly.

He doesn't strike me as having x-factor... It's more like a '...hey, WTF - where did that come from??' factor.

Duffy won't set the world alight on saturday, but he may surprise many. I have a hunch we still might see a few more experiments happening up forward.

Anyone who's better informed on Duffy care to comment? Is that how he plays, or do I have a warped perspective from only seeing him play a few times?

Titus O'Reily at his best, definitely worth a read.

Stevie J and Ryan Crowley get into character

Ryan Crowley: Hello?

Steve Johnson: It’s Steve.

Crowley: Oh, hello Steve. Are you well?

Johnson: Very well thanks. You? Health good?

Crowley: Yes, everything’s good over here. Was hoping you’d call. Too long goes by without us talking during the season.

Johnson: I know. Where does the time go? Anyway, just thought I’d give you a call to discuss this week’s game.

Crowley: Gee, it’s come around quickly hasn’t it? Again we assume our roles as the hunter and the hunted. And for what? Fame? Glory?

Johnson: We’ve talked about this before Ryan. It’s not our job to question the roles fate has set us. You start tugging on those cosmic threads and the whole world unravels.

If Duffy is not the sub, it will show the match committee are looking for extra x factor.

I think he is well suited to the sub role, but I do not think Geelong handle small forwards well and for that reason it would be a positive move for him to start.

I am calling de Boer to be sub.

Interesting call. Duffy seems the obvious choice for the sub, for mine. I'll stick with the balance of probability.

As I've said before, Geelong will open us up if we're lax with our forward pressure. We have been of late. De Boer instantly tightens up our front half (and midfield) pressure.

Leaving him as the sub eliminates any chance of tightening up on the Cats half back line during the game. I'd be very unpleasantly surprised if MDB is the sub.

Can see him playing midfield, and allowing Mundy, Suban, PearceD or Hill to push back a bit to help our rebound... and also to make it harder for the Cats to run the ball through the centre of the ground. Can also see him played in the forward line as a pressure-forward triple tag team with Balla and Mayne. Can even see him being used as someone to mind Mackie (instead of Barlow who allowed Savage off the chain, and he promptly gutted us in the Saints game).

Using MDB as the sub prevents those options being used. I don't see it to be honest.

This guy takes more piss than a urinal. Love it! :thumbsu:

There are some other great ones as well.

http://titusoreily.com/afl-clarifies-holding-ball-rule/ and http://titusoreily.com/best-kept-secrets-afl/ are two of my favourites.

Bruce McAvaney is a big Cyril Rioli fan

Bruce isn’t the sort to wear his heart on his sleeve or endlessly repeat himself, but you just get the feeling he likes Cyril Rioli a lot.

Being the ultimate pro, Bruce hides his admiration under a balanced call that doesn’t disproportionately focus on any player.

Behind the scenes though, if you catch him in a moment of quiet reflection, he’ll say to you “Gee, Cyril Rioli is special, isn’t he?’

We lost Luke after the Dons game where Ryder knocked him out in a similar manner, I'm pretty sure. Passed the Cog state test earlier in the week, but wasn't right to go before the game. They'll be looking out for symptoms and will probably give Pav a final test that day to confirm that he's right. We'll need the back-up until all the last boxes are ticked.

If he's right to play, he'll definitely play. Important game... which I can't see us winning if Pav is an omission. They're giving him the best possible chance to play. There's still a chance that he might not play... won't know until the day of the game.

More thinking of the ones that have been around for a long time but yeah Fisher was a joke last week.
I like the fact that Langdon picked up the "Fisher gave Carlton 12 frees and us 0 (or 1, if Zacy boy was right... I think?)" during the 6PR interview with Ross. Very happy that that little fact got some airtime.

Therefore, if Pav misses, how about play Mayne at FF and bring Tabs into CHF where he can roam around a bit and use his tank?

Mayne isn't effective playing deep. Tabs isn't particularly effective full stop, as yet. I'd rather Mayne be responsible for getting the ball to him, and then expect Tabs to halve the contest at full forward... rather than vice versa. The vice versa would likely result in a turnover between centre and half-back, and a quick re-entry into our D50.

I'd rather Clarke at FF, Mayne at CHF and Tabs with a license to roam.

Shutdown their midfield and they'll crumble from their. Hopefully Dawson can stick to Hawkins like glue and use that magical fist of his.

Dawson fisting Hawkins while covered with glue... Mate keep it clean, this is a family site. ;)

(...it's still a good idea but. Suggest it to the AFL, they could do it as a halftime show after the Auskick, might help lift attendance numbers... Bruce McAvaney could commentate.)

I don't see it being that bad. We may lose... but i don't see it turning out to be that kind of flogging.

Though if we run with barlow as a high half forward I think we'll get reamed. Savage killed us against the saints. Imagine what mackie could do if barlow is his match up.
Is it just me or has Barlow at HF coincided with our poor form?
We take him out of the middle, start losing clearances and start losing games.

Yeah, something tells me that RTB is doing this on purpose in the lead up to finals. I guarantee that Barlow is back in the middle for the big ones.

The most obvious issue I saw against the Blues was that over, and over, and over again the guys at the centre clearance allowed one of the Carlton players to get right to the drop... right under the feet of the ruckmen, while our match-up trailed in behind. The most likely event (that the tap ends up at the ruckmen's feet) meant that this player got first disposal over, and over again... and they made the most of it.

Either this was something that Stone was happy with (and he probably needs a self-uppercut if this is the case), or it was something that the players allowed to happen (in which case, they deserve the uppercut). It was game changing, especially with the fact that Carlton have some VERY dangerous tall forwards that were able to put our defense under extreme pressure.

It was p*ss poor fundamental clearance work, and it nearly cost us the game. Having Barlow, Fyfe or Mundy getting to that spot (rather than poorly holding Judd out of the centre clearance contest as Mundy was in the first quarter or so) should be a priority. Each have the frame and the smarts to get to that spot to stop the Carlton centre clearance reaming happening, and potentially win us the ball. I think we were setting up far too defensively at the centre bounces, and this gave Carlton space to burn us with a quick and easy centre clearance.

We'll need to remedy that this week, as the Cats usually concede the clearances and win the ball back using a spare a kick ahead of the clearance. If we're losing the clearances AND falling prey to their use of the spare, it'll be a reaming of Melbourne 2013 proportions.

Evil prevails when good men do nothing or something to that effect. It was Fisher anally reaming us but Stevic didn't exactly counter that one sidedness even slightly. Could be worse though.
Haha, anal Fisher. I see what you did there...
