It was done to accommodate Sydney & GWS has been my understanding, other teams were just along for the ride...

Yep that's what he said.. they had been away from their families for a month already, we were about to go into another lockdown in Victoria and the AFL wanted to maintain as much flexibility as they could with state borders closing.

So basically, they wanted to have teams that are playing each other soon to be in the same place, Sydney and GWS decided they had to escape lockdown and be with in Queensland where their families could also get into (albeit with two weeks quarantine) but might not have been able to fly in and out of Melbourne for our games, GC is based there anyway and we had to play them still as well, so we were moved into the Queensland hub to make sure the games could go ahead...

If not for GWS and Sydney wanting to be in Queensland they probably could have hubbed in Melbourne with GC etc, but I guess it could've worked out that games couldn't go ahead in Vic either if our lockdown had been stricter, and the whole comp could've been shut down in that case depending on if any other state was willing to host? So they didn't want to put all their eggs in one basket?

We are scheduled for friday night next week as well vs Bulldogs, so if we play tomorrow it would be our second 5 days break for the year.

So either the AFLPA let it slide (precedent say they wont) or we lost the Friday night slot and will be rescheduled, which would means being screwed by the AFL yet again.

Seven is contracted to produce the Essendon v Sydney game as far as I know so I believe it will be on either 7mate, 7two or 7flix tomorrow.

I have no doubt that the reality of the pandemic is not lost on just about every poster on this forum, but that does not preclude, nor should it either, them caring and talking about football, and if they think the machinations of fixture relocations etc have left Essendon with the short straw.
