I remember Moriarty played a blinder. He later served with distinction in the South African War, as did a number of the lads.

It was quite a day actually. I was staying in the country at a place called Heidelberg. I got a ride on a carriage to the new train station and then caught the steam train to Clifton Hill. They were changing horses at the stable near Heidelberg station before heading into town and offered to take me the whole way for a sixpence, but I fancied a train ride.

After the game I walked to the Brunswick Hotel and we toasted Her Majesty and the players well into the night.
…and yet here were are in the new world, there’ll be no trains to the ground from Heidelberg tonight. Better call the boys to hook the horses to the cart!

Trying to inject some optimism in my thoughts

Our midfield is full strength except for an in-form Oscar. Fort needs to break even and the mids to get to work. Rare for a side to clearly win midfield and lose. So that says to me it can be done even with our outs. Dunks to put some body on Daicos at clearance:

Winning the midfield would help cover for our backline which is our biggest weakness with the outs, a proppy zorko, and a lacking in confidence starce. Crucial we run hard to cover on transition as they have a lot of good leading forwards in Elliott, Mihoceck, Schultz, Hill.

Our forward line is intact except for Kai and the struggle to replace Joe. I would have gone Day as he has shown a willingness to not get outmarked. So now I would go Hipwood to mark Moore. Just stop the intercepts, and get dangerous if Moore gambles hard when the ball is in dispute

Still struggle to see a win, but the odds tell me we are more of a chance than I think

We were clearly down last time we played them and they pantsed us. Hoping for a better effort tonight and ideally a win. Interested to see how our game plan works on the G - I get the impression we’ve designed our game to suit the bigger ground

Imo, if we lose this game our year is done.....can't see a GF ahead with the way they've been playing.

..obviously I would love the boys to prove me wrong tho.

After watching last nights game, the Crows are looking very much like they're on a mission, have that steely determination look about them....like us last year (and it's missing this year)

Pretty much how i see it. Losing this game would mean top 4 is pretty much gone, and it would put our top 8 chances at risk. We simply cannot lose any games for the rest of season given just how tight the top 8 currently is. Fages needs to go back to the dancing on ice thing he did last year, because that's literally where we are right now.

The bolded sounds good in theory, but what happens if in a close final/GF in the last minute of play a goal is given which retakes the lead, everyone can clearly see that the ball deviated off a post via the broadcast, but the goal/boundary/field umpires all missed it, in other words a howler mistake.

What would the reaction of most fans/media/players/coaches be?

A- Oh well, that's the way it goes, que sera sera.
B- Outrage at an avoidable error.
C- The team on the good side of the error- :D :trophy:
I’d just review it behind the scenes and call back play if necessary. Would also eliminate reviews where the team conceding the score suffers more from the review - a couple of weeks ago they reviewed a behind that had no impact on the final seconds of a close game but enabled the opposition time to set up on the kick in

Confident we will be competitive tonight, will be incredibly disappointed if we get rolled over again.

As a fan I just want us to be competitive, winning is the cherry on top but if we lose a close competitive game, that's footy.

How good would it be to be behind all game, then claw the margin back in the last quarter and, finally hit the lead in the dying seconds with a dodgy free kick or 50 to win the game.

Like boot on the other foot for a very overdue change.

I hope not MacMum
My daughter is coming over early before tonight's game to sort out which Virgin flights to book for the GF
Optimistic yes, but the flight booking will be one that has a $99 refund.

Just on flights they have gone up about $80 average since around 2 weeks ago
Around two weeks ago, the first Virgin flight departing Bris at 6.05am Fri 26th was $262 (Lite cheapest no refund)
Now you can see below the 6.05am flight is $613 (Lite cheapest no refund) The refund option (Flex) price is $783

All Virgin prices below are Lite one-way Bris-Mel.
Flights listed are just to 8.55am

Northern Lions fans, relax.
Everytime the boys come here to their southern fortress for a big game, they play their best hoodoo smashing footy.

Down here, we just go to the footy expecting another comprehensive shellacking of our hapless opponents:
Dogs ✅
Swans ✅
Hawks ✅
Blooz ✅
Cats ✅
Time to add to the list.

Hope you're right. The one thing that leaves me optimistic is that Collingwood's form recently hasn't been all that good, and we're a much better team in Melbourne than we are in QLD. If this was at the Gabba, i would be more worried. I just hope we're able to kick straight, because you cannot waste chances against a team like collingwood

Not our strongest line up - quite a few missing but that's what happens at this time of the season. The Pies look a bit vulnerable down back and I'm hoping our forwards can have a night out - I feel that's out weakness right now - kicking a score. Hippy needs to have one of those out of the box matches.

Need to keep the Daicos boys in check - easier said than done but if we can limit their output some what, then we have a big chance off getting that much needed win. Think Will Ashcroft will lift tonight. Hoping the little champ Zorko is 100% fit and firing.

Nothing better in life than beating the Pies in Melbourne. Carn the Lions

Callum to keep an eye on Josh, not sure what we do re Nick.... maybe just go head to head with their midfield group and back our mids in to get the job done as a collective.
