"The players have voted.... Liam Duggan will lead the club as captain for the 2026 season, with Liam Baker as Vice Captain"

McQuater next pre season, mark it down me old mate.
The change we need will only be well driven if Mini takes more control of decisions on captaincy, a popularity vote got as good blokes, one a soft traitor and the other a C+ grade HBF.
Very interested to see what changes in assistance occurs and what direction that takes, and modification to physical conditioning to include more toughening.

Sorry mate duggan is signed up to what I believe is 2027 so no chance of him getting delisted any time soon. I think next year graham or baker will be captain giving mini the opportunity to drop duggan.

I've noticed that other teams wont man up duggan in the hopes we kick it to him instead of other better ball users because when he disposes of it usually turns into a turnover or a ball up.
If Duggan has 2 more years on his contract we should negotiate a payout over the next 4 yrs and use the soft salary cap to pay him out. He would have to accept that as no other team would be silly enough to draft him.
Leaving him in the team just stuffs up what Mini is trying to achieve, he stinks the place up.

The C+grade HBF belongs on F troop. Seriously how many players on our list would be a starting 22 at any other club.
Maybe 12 which means that the other 30 odd are just hopeless and are only making up the numbers. We need a big cull in the next 2 drafts, before The Devils join.

The ol who would get a game last night in Brisbanes side is grim. Id have it as

Reuben Ginbey over Ryan Lester
Harry Edwards over Darcy Gardiner
Tom McCarthy over Brandon Starcevich
Elijah Hewett over Sam Marshall
Brady Hough as sub over Bruce Reville

And that would be about it....

Yikes

Harley over Levi
Oscar over Hipwood (will actually happen)
Waterman over Smith

You take 8, given we have one win, and they’re the reigning premiers lol

Officially not tough enough. We missed Graeme and Harley leavinhg the little tiger as the only fight we had. Is it any wonder Mini loves Harley?

As an observation I lived in Melbourne for a few years and saw all our games there during the period. Now in Sydney, I must say that with a very few exceptions we are always very soft on the road. Is it mental or selections?

Visitors from WA oten remark at games we arn't the same team.

Culley looked good, and good for him he has my best wishes. But, i witnesses Brander physically monster us in Sydney, and a game or two later he was dropped never to play AFL again because he lacked toughness at the contest.
Historically yes, but I think this year has actually been the opposite. We have been noticeably better away this year, and the home game advantage is non existent.
Up until this week that is. And I fear the rest of the season will have little to smile about, green shoots will be few and far between.

So owies is the reason we're shit? 🤔
Sure he doesn't make us better but..
Thought owies run and pressure up the ground in the first half was v good - he can also kick 20-30 goals per year at AFL level.

Certainly wouldn't consider Owies a bust: It's been such a shit year to be a WCE forward.

Positives:

Campbell Chesser looked alright in his first game back.

Negatives:

Liam Duggans kicking

His skill errors are beyond irreparable right now, another howler:

I actually think giving up the captaincy will help him. At the moment the club is the lowest its ever been and he will be feeling extra pressure to lead. Needs to be stripped back to a simple role. He still applies good pressure and that kick he did in the first quarter shows he still has some talent.

I'm not normally a Duggan-hater. But there was a passage of play that stuck in my mind... he was running the ball out of the backline, handballed it a team mate and then just stopped running. Didn't keep running to support his man and didn't both even trying to block the oncoming Melbourne tackler. He gave of his handball, figured his job was done and just stopped running.

Our captain.

Our.

****ing.

Captain.

Can't even be bothered trying to put on a block. Didn't even attempt to look like he was putting in effort.

But he's got a neat 4wd podcast, so that's nice.

Does strike me as a player where if you take the burder of captaincy off him, it would help his game.

Muddle his mind with off-field duties, on-field leadership and will affect his game.

I think the consensus if Liam Baker given his form this season.

Duggan may have the possibility of getting dropped to spend time in 2nds as well.

Brander was a complete squib and overplayed his hand leading to his delisting.

Culley was gutted to be delisted and i hope he has a decent career at the dees.

Chiming in for the first time in yonks with an opinion. I believe that Liam Duggan should be rested for the remainder of the season. I'm surely not alone in this belief. My justification is based on a similar situation from the past . In 2017 it was a case of enough is enough with Matt Priddis. Great bloke and a hard working accumulator, but he was holding the team back. 'He Retired' and In 2018 , no Priddis, we win Premiership. Something stinks in our team and it's not a a personal attack on our duel captain. It's just chemistry. I'm curious to see this team without Liam for a game or two.

I'm shockingly shocked that our 1 win wooden spoon team players wouldn't get a run for the reigning premiers. Shocked.

Was at the game, amazing to see just how listless the squad is in person.

  • Marco Bello (Forwards Coach)

If his aim is to have the forwards all stand like statues with a raised hand like their asking a question in primary school, he's doing an outstanding job.
