2nd duggan clip is harsh, no one provided an option and not even maric was in the right position
I think Maric was just stunned by what Duggan was doing. It was a slow motion car-crash of a play.

Hopefully a major reset in the leadership group over this off-season. I agree Duggan will be better without the weight of captaincy, or at least I won't be melting because our captain is so bad at the footballs.

Reminds me of when Chris Newman was captain of the Tigers - really dropped off but they couldn't drop him.

It was a bold move to appoint a couple of young guns (over Gov - and others?) It assumed they - and the club - would continue on an upward trajectory. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case for either of them - or us.

Hindsight is a great thing.

Who was the Hawks one - James Van Der Beek or Eddie Van Halen or something?

Brander was a complete squib and overplayed his hand leading to his delisting.

Culley was gutted to be delisted and i hope he has a decent career at the dees.
Culley wouldve been great as the big bodied mid for a few more years for us, drifting forward to kick a goal or 2. Delisted a bit too early coming back from a knee

Duggan looks to switch, there are 2 players on the fat side running up the ground. The player closest (Chesser I think) should've provided the option but just keeps running

By the time he's forced into the handball those 2 are almost 50 meters away with a Melb player guarding the space

It's only at this point does Chesser think about maybe providing an outlet kick option

Maric was probably expecting him to just hit the switch, which was a fair assumption and I agree was why he wasn't expecting possession

way too early. Called it at the time of his delisting.

would have been a better option than 3-grab fumble hutch.
I like hutch and think he'll be much like culley, and admiral stop gap, maybe more if he's on the list still when we have a decent midfield and he plays forward again

Culley did nothing in 2024 to warrant an extra year, it was the right decision based on the data we had. He had been on the list for 3 seasons and has since only played 1 game in a historically bad Melbourne side, where he had 13 touches.

Hutch came in while Culley was still on the list anyway, the decisions on their contracts don't overlap at all.

Happy to judge the pair in a few years and see who came out ahead

Just splitting hairs, but he had 2.5 seasons. Which included doing his knee, second game after kicking 4 goals against Port. Personally, I don't think he'll be a great loss in the long run. But I feel like he could have earned another year. IMHO, Culley's main issue is he is built like a KPF, plays midfield and is too slow for either.

One of my bugbears is list size restrictions. We already have a salary cap, I don't understand why we need a limit on list sizes. It would allow struggling clubs, like ours, the flexibility to have a few more speculative picks on our list as we try and rebuild, given we aren't (and shouldn't be) dumping much salary into the seniors.

I'm with you on list sizes and other posters have agreed, just more BS from the AFL not moving on from COVID era rules and regulations

Culley doesn't really move the needle one way or the other. I mean he's been playing for Casey in the VFL all year and he's not getting 48 touches a game or anything, and Melbourne are hardly at 2021 levels where players are unlucky to miss out on selection.

Disappointing for me is that he came in and had 30 tackles and 14 clearances in his first 4 games then either side of his injury we tried to play him forward and as the sub.

He may be a spaz some times, but he's our spaz..
With the right support in the 22, and a bit further up the ground, we can hide or eliminate some of the punished errors.
Even prime Judd would get done holding the ball in our side as we just don't work hard enough often enough to present options all over the ground. Often, there's just nothing.

Kinda glad I didn't cough up for flights & hotel expenses to see this game. Strongly considered it. Thought twice after the Richmond game.

If Duggan turned and kicked straight away both players were out.

If Duggan turned and kicked after 2 seconds both players were out with a small chance of a 2 v 1 in our favour.

If Duggan turned and kicked after 4 seconds it was a definite 2 v 1 in our favour.

It was all Duggans indecision to kick.
