Yeah true, we can expect a lot of young players. I'm not interested in the raw numbers as such, but how he integrates into the fwd structure.

I wont be too upset if he doesn't have a ripper, it's fair enough for a young player to go up and down but, on the other hand, he's kept some reasonable players out so it's right to expect a certain standard.

But Duffy is not as young as some because he missed getting drafted first up - 21 this year and 8 months older than Crozier. So you would look for a similar level of consistency. I just hope he can run the game out if needed fitness wise.

Stoked to have my man Sonny back!

Our last 10 games against Hawthorn we have lost the inside 50 count every single game. The last time we won the count was May 2007, we even lost it in the 2010 EF. For a small forward line to have any chance, we probably need to turn that stat around first.

Yeah, I hope so. Must admit there's a bit of a nagging doubt about him in my mind - not because I don't like what I see, it's just that ability to butter up again for a young (though as you say not that young) and inexperienced player. Moreover, as you say, can he run out an entire game given we can't be sure Walters can. Just questions at this stage. I'm not suggesting he can't, just one of those unknowns that I'd rather was a known.

Aren't the hawks no 1 in the afl for inside 50s.

I think the most important thing is to develop an effective forward structure that will make the most of our i50s, and prevent them bouncing out and down the other end.

It'd be nice to top them for i50s... but when it doesn't happen I'd like us to still manage to win the game.

Why don't Fremantle give Matthew Taberner more game time and allow him to develop as a key forward? Thought he was stiff not to play more games this year. Another way of having a more potent forward line would be for Fremantle to bring in Silvagni to replace McPharlin at CHB which would then mean they can use McPharlin at CHF or even allow Taberner more exposure at senior level.

Wait....... so Ross has actually dropped his non damaging defensive forward and actually brought in players who can score?

Not sure if it's already been covered in this thread, but who have we got the pleasure of being umpired by?

Both good ideas. Seems Lyon doesn't rate tall forwards much since we have gone out of our way to avoid playing them this year.

So how do you guys feel about your chances tomorrow?

The AFL scribes are breezily suggesting the Hawks can reclaim top spot on the ladder with a win over Fremantle, which implies not only do they think they'll beat you, but actually better their percentage of 142.6%, which means a big win.

Pretty disrespectful if you ask me. I'd use it as motivation if I were Fremantle.

Well, recent history against the Hawks suggest we are no chance and playing a good quarter against Geelong doesn't make me feel confident. But we play them at home for first time since that final in 2010, long winning streak are difficult to maintain and we really need this game (to make top 4 finish pretty sure and to get some confidence before finals). So no result apart from a huge Freo victory would really surprise me...

Taberner is to raw and physically underdeveloped to have much of an influence at the top level yet. He just doesn't do enough to hold his spot when given a chance.

This is not true, its a logical fallacy. Not playing tall forwards doesn't mean you don't rate them, it can also mean that the tall forwards available to you aren't good enough.
Ross used to play Rievold, Kossy and 2 ruck men at the saints. Somehow I don't think if we had Cloke or Buddy or even Aaron Black in the shed they would be playing for Peel.

Taberner is still a work in project. Many on this board rate Michael Apeness over Taberner. Check him out if you are interested. 200cm, 100kg, awesome mark and competitive beast.

Margetts , Findlay & Pannel.
About as bad as it could be.
It really depends on what their instructions are for this week.

Hopefully they are under the microscope.

I would say the evidence is they don't care about being under public scrutiny.
They are only focussed on doing what they have been instructed to do.

I meant under the microscope of Wayne Campbell.

Tabs will be a player for us, he was a bit unlucky to get dropped earlier in the year, but will get more game time next year. Apeness is another that wasn't mentioned but he's a complete beast, very competitive and can take the big pack marks. Life after Pav may not be as doom and gloom as some suggest, provided one of these can come on.

Unfortunately for us, apeness didn't grow up with a footy in hand kicking goals between the gate posts and bending banana's around the garden shed. His kicking action is so forced coming from a rugby union background that I just don't have much hope in him being able to deliver anything more than being a50% effective forward. He took some cracking pack marks today at peel and competed well in ruck but again was abysmal in front of the sticks. Don't even consider him being able to snap one under pressure or boot one around the corner on the run - it ain't gonna happen for a few years. Unfortunately that deft kicking skill takes years to home if you don't have it. Not writing the guy off, just saying he won't be in the same class as other forwards when looking at the entire package on offer

Doubt they need anymore motivation. They beat us in a grand final, they smashed us earlier in the year, we need to win to stay in the top 4. To be honest though, I'm predicting a 19-25 point hawks victory.
