Don't know if this is of interest or not but in round 22 1980 Essendon defeated Hawthorn 102 to 62.

Essendon finished 7th on 10 wins.

No point. With his last game coming up, just a reference to the last game that Sheedy didn't coach. Well apart from the O'Donnell stand in business.

During the last quarter today, the chance of a last red and black Sheedy flag ended.

The dinosaurs weren't exactly roaming the planet, but gees it's a long time ago. With the final curtain about to be drawn, no harm in reflecting on when the last time Essendon wasn't Sheedy.

I dont think Sheeds coached round 1 1981, i believe it was round 3. Was it Barry Davis who was our coach in 1980?

It was Barry Davis and his deal was he had to make the finals to get another contract.

Not sure about the round three thing.

But, if any Geelong supporter is about, do know we won 15 straight at one stage and then bowed at without winning a final.

Actually just looked it up. Went from round 7 to round 21 inclusive without a loss before being done by Geelong in round 22. That's after losing the first six.

You had to look it up? Who doesn't know that we started 1981 1-5 then won 15 straight only to disappointingly lose the last game, thus losing a double chance? We could have even finished top and had the week off. Then we bloody lose the Elimination Final and the streak was all for nought.
