Autopsy Round 22, 2022: Richmond roast Hawks

Koschitzke is frustrating to watch. If he can learn how to get separation against his opponent, he would be a much better key forward. If he can’t improve his game next year, then perhaps the coaching staff need to consider a better second option to play alongside Lewis?
He doesn't even need separation. He just needs to learn to bend his fingers. Real concrete hands

Reality check about how far off we really are

Smashed in the middle

Really poor forwards, though the kicks in didn’t help, we really struggle at pressure and locking it in

We’re too nice, almost docile at times

28 scoring shots to 22

over 50 inside 50’s

Did a lot right. Missed some they should‘ve kicked.

Mitchell should have persisted with original structure. Unsettled team balance in the 3rd.

Nowhere near as bad as some think.

Jeka, Blanck and Serong to domimate the post match warm down. Stretching beautifully.

Heard through a mate at the club that the boys had checked out for the season

Seems she was pretty much spot on the money

Add to that we play a team, fighting for a finals spot, meant it was always going to be a tough day

PLUS the fact they pretty much played the perfect football game today and we struggled big time

You learn more from days like today than from almost every other situation
For a team that checked out, we had only 3 less inside 50's.

I'm not buying it. We were poor, but were up against a side playing for a spot in finals, with far more understanding between each other who were a lot closer to full strength.

Our midfield is our biggest issue, as we all know.

Yeah, that stunk.

Positives: Maginness stuck to his defensive task and kept Bolton reasonably quiet. He won his contest for the day. Newcombe fought out all day as a one man midfield. He needs help. Sicily did well playing with freedom until we had to send him back to stop the rot, where he kept Lynch goalless. Jeka took some nice marks and did a few good things. Some encouraging signs there.

Negatives: midfield putrid. So bad. I won’t lay in to Blanck or DGB for getting beaten by Lynch, the supply was non-stop. Sicily stopped the bleeding in Q4. Day and Impey non contributors.

Leadership really poor, outside of Sicily and Newcombe. Nothing from O’Meara against a good opponent after being solid against rubbish in recent weeks. Mitchell was poor. Gunston and Breust were poor until junk time.

Newc was good, Finn did a job, not a lot else. Sicily I thought was pretty good, Mitchell was solid.

Too many mistakes, tho we are severely undermanned and felt the wrong team was selected. We shall learn.

To be fair, taking Sicily out of defence for 3 quarters was a tanking move. Lynch taken 12 marks and kicked 8. Once Sic went onto him, he didn't get a touch.
Just felt the backs needed some leadership and Sam wanted them to learn a lesson for 3 quarters. That was the ball game.
Embarrassing for all involved really.
Inside 50s were almost even, so no point potting the midfield on this one.

So lucky to have Duke, our next 6 draft picks should be on midfielders and pressure forwards.

please no more Impey this season, doesn’t look fit and confidence is shot.

Jekka has arrived

We should gain a spot in the draft

hopefully we can send Bigboy & Shiels off with a better effort next week

Bit of a reminder how far we have to go, and how many drafts we still need to nail.

Not the best day, but proud we don't roll over and battled out the game. Won the fourth.

If you add Lewis and another tall competing forward, margin wouldn't be that bad. We generated plenty of inside 50s.

Tigers couldn't miss.

Finn fantastic. Newcombe as usual.

Jeka showed enough to persist.

Impey is a worry.

Jury out on DGB for me. Needs a big 2023.

Not gutted by the result - we know where we sit at the moment.
Could be the difference come draft day….Pick 4 or 6/7…..depends who we have our sights on

BB is leaving a big hole, hope Reeves is up for the task

We've got people posting 'reality check' so, maybe some have been living in an alternate reality.

Was all over by quarter time when we’d lost the inside 50s 20-6.

Effort picked up a bit after that.

Anyone that says Mitchell was elite today are just looking at their supercoach.

Newcombe should be the rising star this year. Doing it on his own in the middle and has clearly been working on his kicking. Doing the number 44 proud.

I feel like Newcombe is going to run himself into the ground because he’s having to do too much work by himself. He needs a better supporting cast.

INB4 Dom tries to tell us that Tom was actually pretty good today...

Oh...

He was very good and very bad. Sam needs to update his contract to fine him $10k every time he blindly kicks the ball 30m. Its either find a player or kick it 50m.

Maybe $10k for the 1m handball to players in worse positions.

Also waiting a beat before firing off a handpass. Newk stands out like a beacon in a low-wattage midfield.
