Positives:
  • Hewett during the week calling out his teammates for their pathetic efforts and essentially telling them to get cracking or **** off.
  • 200+ Pressure rating for pretty much the entire game.
  • SHANAHANDS for the rising star nom this week surely.
  • Hewett has exceptionally clean hands and starting to use his pace to exit stoppages.
  • The Return of the King - TK turning back of the clock. 25d, 1goal, 10 clearances, 5 Tackles.
  • McCarthy - The heck has this kid been. 29d 627m gained. Best 22 locked every week.
  • Annihilated our averages for Tackles. - 72 for the match (55 is the average) - 11 inside 50 was also 1 better than the crom.

`Not bad but not great:
Chesser - 1 Goal but should have had 3, fell off a cliff in the second half so don't know if his role changed etc but was looking good up until half time.

Davis - Like Chesser - 6 Tackles to half time then the cliff came and only added 1 more. Kicked his first goal which was nice but will need a big preseason.

Gross - HFF is not working for him and he doesn't have the tank yet to run inside mid. Can see the club likes him and wants a spot for him but he needs to just spend time in the 2nds developing and more time in the gym.

AReid - Competitive but also a bit like Gross where he's just not holding his own in 1v1 contests yet. Needs to put on size and I think should focus on the ruck in the off-season.

No Negatives this week.
Everyone cracked in and put in 100% Effort.
Sometimes you just lose to a side further along the journey.
Would have been nice to snag that one though.

Overall I am happy with the defensive efforts of all involved.

The defence was very under-sized but performed well as a team.

As fatigue set in in the last quarter, we butchered more ball going forward than we would have earlier. Partly due to poor decision making but also it was quite stagnant forward as players were tired.

Good game overall though.

Crazy how much better a team can look when they do the simple things right. We were clean and tackled in packs. The rest unfolded by itself.
The frustrating thing about these performances, is the question of why we can't do it more often.

If we get a relatively good (by our standards) run with injuries, a few good trades, we should definitely be improving next season.

5 wins with the youngsters developing more would do me.

It’s always been the turnovers crippling us , today’s skills were 1st class and went a long way to WCE going close to a upset of the season..

Positives: Chess, Sandy, T-Mac, Shannahan, Hall, Kelly, Ryan
Negatives: the usual from our spud senior players when the game was on the line. Nuffie comments about us running out of steam as if most AFL teams aren't tired in the last, game was lost due to errors and break down in system in the final minutes.

Great to see that like every other week somehow the sub 50 game children prove to Bigfooty nuffies that age, games played, and amount of preseasons completed have next to no correlation to who is actually doing all the work out of the field.

Well that surely must finally ring a few bells in the players heads.
If you work hard and never stop putting in effort then rewards start to appear.
And even though we didn’t win there were rewards a plenty today that hopefully will instil in this group about the requirements to be a competitive AFL team.
Very pleased with how we competed today, still made some silly mistakes but that’s part of this journey.
Sad thing is that our senior players are the ones making most of the silly mistakes.

Was expecting a 15 goal smashing, so to lose by 9 points after being in the lead at times, is a great effort no matter how you spin it. #1 team, we had several key players out, including you know who...and I found that interesting...they couldn't rely on him, a good thing. But who would've thought we could turn out that sort of game? Hats off to the coach and the team.

Graham added some grunt. The gang tackling/pressure was hot at times, rattled the crowbots!
Same old problems, skills and footy nous, Duggan's dump kicks etc.
So another preseason should iron out some of these problems and further build cohesion.
Can take a lot of confidence out of that game, of what's possible.
Guys might be cooked next week, away game against 9th placed Dogs.
Then what promises to be a cracker with Swans?

I enjoyed that game (besides the ending), can't say that about too many of our matches this year.
The effort didn't really fade out for probably the first time this year, pressure was up for the majority of the game.
Shame the senior players stuffed it up at the end there, Ryan, Flynn and Duggan really cost us that one.

Extremely proud. Hung in there for as long as we could (longer than we could have anticipated). Their match winners and class stood up - unfortunately at present, we don’t have too many of those.

Mini is definitely able to elicit some responses from the group - Brisbane, Geelong, Collingwood and now today. All games we theoretically have no right to be in but were.

Lots of hope. Shanahan and McCarthy, huge. Kelly was good - please keep that up Tim. Chess started well but faded. Brock and Reuben were sensational. Huge positives all over. If we can bring that to the last home… who knows. Just got to get through next week first!

Gotta fell for Ginbey again.
Probably up in the discussion for best on for 3/4 of the game letting a bloke twice his size only kick one on him.

Then Thilthorpe slots 2 massive goals which seal the game for the crows.

Reminiscent of his game v Geelong and Ginbey toweling up Jezza for 3 qrts.

Fair crack that.

15 to 1 underdogs and made them earn it. Coulda shoulda woulda but if Thilthorpe doesn't get those 2 late goals from some individual brilliance, and/or, we convert a couple of those early set shots from Chesser and Jobe - that's 18th beating 1st (who are more than double our % btw). Lots to like from that performance.

Positives
  • McCarthy, what a gem. Takes the absolute piss with some of his ball movement — just so creative and his swap with Hough is a good switch.
  • Speaking of Hough, I didn't mind the mid experiment considering how bad we are in the guts, but he provides too much value behind the ball.
  • Props to Tim Kelly, stringing a few good games in a row as our onballer, game high 10 clearances is pleasing to see. Hopefully those second gear 10D games are behind him.
  • Ginbey, what an absolute beast. 200+ game written all over him. Consistently takes the best forward as an undersized defender and just battles all day.
  • Shoutouts to Shanahands who's leading our forward line as a bloody 19 year old KPP, Brock who holds his own and has been great value as a SSP, and Chesser who had a few iffy moments in the second half, but is putting up his hand for an extension.

Negatives
  • Yep, another loss. Even after leading most of the game and into the fourth - you just knew we'd run out of gas and lack the composure to close out the game
  • Plenty of moments I could call out - mostly from the seniors - but it feels kind of pointless. Except Owies...hate trash talking our own but he seriously doesn't add anything to our team. Newton with a broken wrist shows more heart than him. Either him or Champion need to take his spot.
Anyways salute to Gov and Sheed, thank you for being apart of the 'golden thread' play that'll forever live rent-free in my head.

McCarthy is a jet, but I don't think that was his best game for us.

Tried to do a lot but there was a lot that didn't come off.

He's an absolute gun though, a great mid-season pick up. Excited to see where he settles and I can see him having some games a lot better than today's one where everything he does comes off.

Probably a better weapon than Hough in the midfield, but it's also good to be able to rotate them as needed and give them both exposure.
