No way Fagan is dropping Hippy, I watched the replay and I thought apart from a couple of howlers he was quite good, particularly in the 2nd half.
Assuming he gets himself right, who goes out for Lohmann in your view?

From last night Sam Marshall is the likely candidate.
Yep, that makes sense if Lohmann was able to return next week, which he isn’t, but what if Marshall strings together three great games against Swans, Freo and Hawks?

You can see where I’m going with this. To accommodate a big occasion key forward, I’d be more inclined to drop an underperforming one. If Hipwood finds form and can hit the scoreboard, his position should be unquestioned, but …

Come finals, I wouldn’t be content with Hipwood playing the much derided ‘McStay Role’ especially as Morris is going to come under enormous pressure from here on. Hipwood is all thumbs and kicking like a mule.

Lohmann is an absolute lock in his best form, someone will have to go out, not sure who that could be, maybe Froggy? ;)

If he doesn't find his best form he is not a lock, Kai listed as 3 weeks away so available for finals, might need to play a game in the VFL finals to access how he comes back. In saying that he might not be eligible for VFL footy??

Dunno. He’s had a bad run with injuries but I’d back him come finals. All this said, Smith has “arrived” at just the right time.

Hopefully no other injuries except Lesters concussion protocols, and no Lions player gets cited.

Out: Lester
In: Someone as sub

Smith marked and kicked straight and did some ruck relief. He attended 21 ruck contests, 5 hit outs with 1 to advantage
Also had 5 tackles. He did well to not really get out marked and he converted 4 marks into 3 goals. I like his kicking action
When you have a low disposal game being 2,1,1,1 you need to convert your opportunities, and he did.
Holds his spot for another week. I hope he can get a bit more of the ball v Swans.
I will get a little more excited if he goes better next week and i am not talking about kicking goals as that's a bonus.

I would keep Reville in defense to see if he can improve on his good effort last night.
Even if it is just an insight into where he may play in 2026
He is a good accurate kick of the footy and he could very well turn out to be a Coleman replacement for 2025/26.
This may give us one more offensive type of player down back but i think the improved Starcevich with Wilmot and Fletcher having both offence & defense qualities this may be enough.
Lester comes back v Dockers though.

McStay being replaced by Hippy for you now?
Hipwoods form has been pretty good. in fact at the reveiw after the game Fagan mentioned Hippy in the group chat as outstanding when we needed a leader to stand up.
Sometimes I wonder what game you are watching…unless Lester is in it then it’s Lester Lester Lester.

Mmmmm! Can I get an invite to that group chat, sounds like an A List confab.

I was there & that is where i noticed it.

He isn't really a slow runner though - would think it would be more his split second decision making in terms of running patterns as opposed to actual pace, right? I haven't watched the replay yet so can't really form an opinion, but that's what it often seems to me when it comes to young players.

It was noticeable live for me. I’m sure I didnt watch every effort he made but the ones I did see he looked slow….. it may be just the moments I noticed

Surely its Doedee. He was picked up to be the Lester replacement. Now is his time to show if he has it or not.
Height wIse for a 190cm Lester replacement:
Zz 196
Joyce 195
Lloyd 193
DOODY 190
Bruce 185
BEECKEN 185
BRAIN 183

Ladies and gentlemen...take your pick.

I really like Beeken to get a shot. Done nothing wrong all year.

Feels like the role is Doedees if he's physically up to it. If not, Beecken has to get a shot.

I like Bruce but he really isn't the answer IMO.

Beecken has been putting his hand up all year in the VFL. Deserves a shot. Not a like for like with Lester but Swans are playing a small forward line currently so we can afford to play a little smaller defensively I think.

He was yesterday against the then top side.
In my opinion he deserves another week over a debut player or one that has not played an AFL game in 25 months.

We beat the Pies with a small backline as well as the Cats
I won't lose any sleep over who gets selected.
Just think you reward a good effort when there are no obvious replacements in the VFL.

He played his role, sure, but we can't rely on our mids producing 250+ pressure in every game left.
