I guess if they are intent to see what more he can offer before making a final decision then 1 game in Adelaide is probably a little inadequate to go by. It would have defeated the purpose in playing him in the first place if they were going to react to one game as Newton wasn't the only player to have an ordinary game.

PJ is a known quantity so no point playing him if there are still unanswered questions re: Newton.

Miller made his decision. Bennell seems tired having played many, many games. Newton had 7 more possessions than PJs average, with 3 fewer hitouts although fewer to flat out disadvantage than PJ. His VFL form has been 'consistantly competitive' with regular BOG ins. Whether the retaining of Juice is based around a yet-to-be-made decision on short-medium term impact/understanding, potential trade(multi part/pick/etc) or farewell game thus no decision remains to be seen. I'd hope we continue our policy of maximising quality/returns without unnecessarily over-extending ourselves.

I don't think it's a Newton\Johnson decision, surely they can't think Newton is the answer in the ruck. I think they have just had enough of Johnson and told him that his time is up and due to the fact that we don't have any replacements Newton has become our only option.

We get rid of Johnson and that will free up a second or third round pick, we get rid of Newton and all we will free up is a 4th or 5th round rookie pick.

We must pick up a big man that could give us something that Johnson never could and that is a big man who can take an overhead mark.

Having said that, PJ does go okay in the ruck, much rather him than spencer, but if he could work on his general footy skills, well, i'd have him in our starting 22 every week.

i think we need to keep one for next year, in 2 years one of fitzy or GAAAAWWN will be able to cover adequately for Jamar IMO, thats going to work really well for us in the future though

Yep, we need to trade for a second ruckman and pick up a KPF with an early pick in the draft. That should be the clubs priority in the off season.

It's a tough call Bailey will have as to who to keep and delist over the next season or two in regards to our ruckman. All our rucks beside Jamar have shown very little if any promise at all, but all could still be on our list in a couple of years time. Will it click for PJ like it did for Jamar? Could Newton actually turn into a solid pinch hitter in the ruck(he can take a mark and kick a goal), will Stef Martin return? Do we just persist with Spencer? Will Gawn be any good? Too many question marks over our back up ruck stocks. Let's trade and get someone decent in like a Hampson from Carlton. Would have been bloody nice to have gotten Warnock when we had the chance!

Certainly wasn't at the start of the year but his VFL form improved leading up to his one game for the year against the swans, where he was certainly handy but so was everyone when you smash a side. Again after he was dropped his VFL form has been patchy.

At the moment it seems his game just lacks an attribute or 2 and Bennell, Wona, Jetta and Bail have all being preferred at different times this year.

I've heard the usual rumours you get when a high draft pick isn't playing well - ie. getting traded, out on the piss Saturday night. Apparently contracted for next year so we'll see what happens.

I can see another Scott Thompson scenario coming up with Maric. Daniher for whatever reason refused to give Thompson a fair go the time he was at Melbourne. Then after a few seasons, got tired of not getting a game and left to become a great player. I can see Maric leaving the club and becoming a very good player elsewhere.

We obviously had some faith in him when we drafted him as we used such a high pick, so i'm not totaly understanding why he isn't getting a regular go in the seniors. The kid's shown he has some skills. In fact, when I've seen him play at Casey I've often thought he shows similarities to Alan Didak.

Of course I'm not saying he will ever be as good as Alan Didak, but how the hell will we ever know...
