I guess if they are intent to see what more he can offer before making a final decision then 1 game in Adelaide is probably a little inadequate to go by. It would have defeated the purpose in playing him in the first place if they were going to react to one game as Newton wasn't the only player to have an ordinary game. In: Macdonald, Sylvia, Bate

Miller made his decision. Bennell seems tired having played many, many games. Newton had 7 more possessions than PJs average, with 3 fewer hitouts although fewer to flat out disadvantage than PJ. His VFL form has been 'consistantly competitive' with regular BOG ins. Whether the retaining of Juice is based around a yet-to-be-made decision on short-medium term impact/understanding, potential trade(multi part/pick/etc) or farewell game thus no decision remains to be seen. I'd hope we continue our policy of maximising quality/returns without unnecessarily over-extending ourselves.what is with our selection policy? Newton will never be a key forward in a winning side. He shouldn't play. If we want a ruckman, Paul Johnson is the one.
Can someone enlighten me as to why we dropped Bennell? He seems pretty good to me, and I reckon can be much more than a back pocket or goalsneak. He could be on an opposite wing to Davey or Morton.
Bailey was considering putting Miller in. There are no 'dead rubbers' in AFL footballer. I'm a Melbourne fan who wants to see a win. If Brad Miller's selection makes us more likely to win that's fine, but they were planning his selection as a farewell. I believe he is better than Newton anyway, and would much prefer him to go to the rookie list for next season.
One of Newton or PJ had to play, Dunn can't ruck against Goldstein and its not worth flogging Jamar in round 22, thats a recipe for disaster. I'm happy its Newton.
I don't think it's a Newton\Johnson decision, surely they can't think Newton is the answer in the ruck. I think they have just had enough of Johnson and told him that his time is up and due to the fact that we don't have any replacements Newton has become our only option.Maybe Bailey is deciding who to keep on the list, Newton or PJ? To be honest, both are ordinary footballers, but only one has potential for considerable improvement, and that's Newton.
To be honest, our ruck stocks are terrible. Jamar has improved and become a top line ruckman, but after that, we may as well put a trained monkey in as our back up. PJ has proved nothing, Newton has ben trialled as a back up ruck and failed, Stef Martin failed, Spencer is as good as useless and Gawn is years away from being any good. Our priority in trade week is to try and grab a decent back up ruckman.
We must pick up a big man that could give us something that Johnson never could and that is a big man who can take any sort of mark.
Fixed for you
In all seriousness, the ruck issue is a pertinent one, I'm so scared of seeing Jamar getting shin splints or whatever it is big men get when they've been overplayed, I mean look what happened to Freo sans Sandilands. If we're having a dip at finals next year a half decent ruckman is a must.
Having said that, PJ does go okay in the ruck, much rather him than spencer, but if he could work on his general footy skills, well, i'd have him in our starting 22 every week.
Certainly wasn't at the start of the year but his VFL form improved leading up to his one game for the year against the swans, where he was certainly handy but so was everyone when you smash a side. Again after he was dropped his VFL form has been patchy.Hey guys good luck on the weekend just wanted to ask what has happened with Maric? Seemed like a pretty creative half forward type albeit not much defensive game when I've seen him play. Not working hard enough?

At the moment it seems his game just lacks an attribute or 2 and Bennell, Wona, Jetta and Bail have all being preferred at different times this year.
I've heard the usual rumours you get when a high draft pick isn't playing well - ie. getting traded, out on the piss Saturday night. Apparently contracted for next year so we'll see what happens.
i think we need to keep one for next year, in 2 years one of fitzy or GAAAAWWN will be able to cover adequately for Jamar IMO, thats going to work really well for us in the future though
HFF: Tapscott Watts Bennell
FF: Jurrah ???? (cook hopefully) Wonna
Int (playing as forwards) Dunn, Fitzy who can help in the ruck.... i love that jurrah plays small and tall
Petterd? Sylvia? Green?
Yeah Bennell is far from certain to be in our 2013 squad, let alone a starter.
