As said in the latter stages of the Round 21 thread, I am really disappointed to not see Jared Rivers in the side.

IMO not playing him will prove costly.

i think that ND is assuming Hille or Bradley will play forward when not in the ruck so nicho has an opponent. Fergy gets Lloyd and Carroll Lucas.

Rivers didn't have a good game for sandy so he didn't really deserve a position but he is still easily in our best 22....18 even

Who cares about how well he went for Sandy.

This is an unofficial Elimination Final for us. We need our best team out there.

Carroll isn't upto it (even though he was ok against the Bulldogs). Watch him crumble against decent key forwards.

Remember Carroll against St Kilda before he got hurt?

And what will Rivers do that Carroll hasn't done since coming in to the side? Answer me that. I have never been a big fan of "Hando" Carroll, but he's been very, very good for us over the last 2 months or so. Rivers was out of form when he broke his hand anyway.

From memory, Carroll did ok before going off hurt. He did better than the other key defenders that day anyway.

Rivers is better at spoiling and he doesn't drop uncontested marks. ;)

I don't mind Carroll, I just see Essendons forwardline and I feel we need Rivers out there.

In the past 4 encounters with Essendon, Rivers has done a very good job.

I/C: Godfrey, McDonald, Bell, Holland

OUT: Read (hip flexor strain), Armstrong, Motlop

Fletcher is an emergency, and I'm happy with out side, hopefully Whelan and Bruce will both play. With Fletcher out, I think our forwardline will be far too much to handle.

Thank God Fletcher is out. Changes the game dramatically. All of a sudden, the edge goes from Essendon to Melbourne. With Fletcher it would have been a hell of a lot easier covering our forwards, and it also meant that Lucas could play his normal role at centre half forward. Lucas, Llyod and Hird in the one forward line is pretty good. Now that Fletcher is out, Lucas has to move down back to make sure their defence isn't stretched, and their potent forward line looks much weaker now.
