Same slow, losing midfield. Same slow MacIntosh on the wing. And Gibus is an emergency over Blight. Our selection integrity is a comedy show. Just as well we don't actually want to win. Need to save our one remaining win for North.
So... did you watch the VFL last week? Outside of the 1st term, Blight was garbage.

In the 10 games this season, Mr Balta has

  • An average 12 disposals per game
  • 53% DE
  • 1.6 tackles per game
  • 5 frees for and a total of 15 frees against
  • a total of 1 goal 3 behinds in 10 games
And a few goals against don't forget.

so good to have big tommy back in the line up.
would love to see him finish off the season with some big performances.
kick some bags for us.

Lynchs contract was heavily backended and was on slightly shy of $1,500,000 a season over the past 2 years.

As it stands, he has made about $80,000 per goal for 2024-25

Given his contribution in 2019 to 2022, worth every cent

Reckon it's close to being our oldest side picked this year, so either Yze's an idiot trying to actually win or all our kids are injured anyway.

Pretty disappointing team selection though.
If we're playing to lose then we may as well get comfortable and embrace a decade of being shit like North and their constant hunt for top end picks.

I want our team playing to win every time we take the field. If we're not good enough then bad luck, but if we're deliberately looking to lose what's the point? The players learn nothing that way.

As it is this is a free swing for us. We'd be guaranteed pick 2 from North with the win and we need to win 2 more games to pass Essendon and lose pick 3, which would become pick 4 prior to and compo/bids.

Given we were tipped to win only 1-2 games for the year winning 6-7 would be a reward for a lot of hard work by Yze and the playing group and build confidence leading into a big summer.

for anyone after a more balanced preview, see below link to behind frenemy lines from last night!

we actually had some good trade chat as well surrounding NWM going to Port and how we may be the gate keepers to the trade which could land us Butters.

Topics:

-Both teams recent form lines
-The value of winning games at this end of the year vs getting better picks
-IN's and OUT's for both teams
-Trade talk about NWM
-Where the game is won and lost
-Predictions

A really great chat with Jake, hope you all enjoy and good luck for this weekend!

All for trying to win but only if we are doing it with our young side. Otherwise we are just treading water and getting meaningless wins.

I get the need for experience in the side to assist the young players but this team picked for the weekend seems to be working against that.

I just hope this side picked isn't a glimpse of our side next year and just been picked because of half a dozen injuries.

In 2019 when we one the flag he averaged $7k a goal.
And how can you put a value on the 5 goals he kicked in the prelim that year to put us into the granny. He was on $450k that year.

Mentioned last week that a few of the kids are playing like they've had enough after a long year playing most of the season in the seniors so no surprise to see that Sims & Trainor made way because the last thing we'd want to happen is them to do an injury that impacts their ability to be ready for preseason.

We've still got 10 players with under 50 games named this week so there are plenty of young players running around who will gain plenty from playing in a game where we're hopefully in the hunt for the win heading into the last quarter over the next couple of weeks where we have 2 winnable games.

As I said a win tomorrow means North can't pass us unless they beat us and win another game against either GWS or Adelaide, which would lock in us picking the 2nd or 3rd best player in the open pool depending on the Allen compo WCE get, which means even if we win 2 games and pass Essendon we're still getting a pick before their first pick and at worse our 2nd pick will be the 4th or 5th best player in the open pool.

As far as next year goes I believe we're going to see a very similar pattern to this year with a lot of players with under 50 games being given opportunities to grab a spot in the 23 as form and fitness warrants.

I wouldn't mind seeing Balta go to the centre as non-ruck tbh. I don't get this mindset of 'the bigger the midfielder the better, unless they reach ruck-height at which point they're only allowed to ruck'. I wouldn't be surprised if Balta is a better midfielder than TT and TT is a better forward than Balta.

We probably have a midfield coach who's come up with a bunch of complicated plays which is why we're not allowed to try anyone except Hopper + TT + Prestia + a tagger though (same reason Sonsie isn't allowed to play the one position he's good in).
