Didn't watch the game because I'm not insane, but we won the free kick count (despite what the game day thread had me think) and broke even at the stoppages which we never do. Even won the hitouts against the million dollar man. WTF happened?
The AFL have f*cked the sport. Can be competitive in most major stats but the direct nature of the modern game leaves young unorganised extremely vulnerable.

This is going to happen a lot more regularly for bottom 4 teams going forward. Basically impossible to stop momentum with more numbers back etc.

If the EPL ever introduced starting positions or zones there’d be no competitiveness whatsoever.

I think that was the worst forwardline we've ever put out (Shanahan the only shining light there). Midfield was slow. Defence was under siege and sloppy. All in all, top viewing.
Kinda worrying when at the start of the season, we would have all agreed that the forward line is probably our strongest line and of lest concern.

Now, Allen out the door, Waterman MIA for half the season, Ryan being shuffled around and getting a serious case of the yips, long progression flat lining, JWilliams going backwards. Owies, WTF.

We are relying on a 5 game player to lead the forward line. The game has seriously passed Cripps

Amazing what the season can throw up

+ One game left...unfortunately it's against the Swans

- Broke my streak of games that I thought we'd get pizzled in but instead played better than expected. Thought we'd get pizzled...we did in fact get pizzled...the rope's been let go for season 2025, heaven help them next Saturday night.

Had no Waterman or Allen for a very good portion of the season to be fair and Allen was a corpse for 95% of it.

Had a feeling we'd get spanked after an intense effort last game, then an away trip. They definitely lacked the same intensity as last week, and depleted of key players of course.
But it just looked too easy for the dogs, like a training drill.
Should rebound (somewhat) against the Red Ducks next week at home.
Finals and Snoop Dog, then The Cleanout, then trade and draft time, then preseason........................................woohoo?

We have been playing players in the AFL in large numbers that are not ready for over a decade now.
It is supposed to be a best of the best comp but instead it’s a glorified colts comp for many clubs.
Men playing boys you end up with and the outcome in that scenario has always been the same.

That looked like a team with its head up its own arse after a "not quite as bad as usual capitulation" last week. Lack of character on display from so many of that team and frankly most of them need to GAGF so we can build around the warriors. To many lack fortitude, direction, belief or talent to be anywhere near AFL.

Oh, agree.
If you said who are our most important players and we cannot afford to lose Allen, Waterman, Yeo and Gov would be no negotiable.

Yet 3 are now gone never to be seen again and 3 we haven't seen for massive chunks of the year

Would be nice if they could even it up perhaps giving extra rookie academy spots to teams that haven't had academy or f/s on their list
Na,
We don't need anymore complications and exceptions of the draft.

Clubs just need to simply play fair market value for a FS/academy picks.

Simple as that.

Worst team picks first.
Second worst team picks second.
Third worst team picks third.

And so on and so forth.

Then from the second round have it based on a duck, duck, goose championship for all I care. 1-18 untouched should be such a non negotiable and we’re so far from that it’s no wonder teams are getting stuck at the bottom for longer.

Looking forward to another 30+ pick first round again this year.

Great take from the season

Really feel sorry for the coach. Not much to work with. Carer destroyer. Better of getting a gig in the franchises, guaranteed 3 x top 10 picks every year.

sick team america GIF

I agree.. the ashcrofts and daicoses of the world. Great FS rule in theory but gotta pay the chips for these guns
I've made this argument many times before so don't want to re hash it.

It's a great and wonderful part of our game, but unfortunately in the age of the professional league, it doesn't belong
It's far far too big of an advantage for clubs to be able to identify players with potential in there very early years, at the first sign of any potential, and basically know that you will get a free swing at them come draft day.

Great when guys had full time jobs outside of footy, let's leave it there where it begins

It’s an amateur rule for an amateur sport.
