ESSENDON BOMBERS

After a tense opening quarter, it was nice to sit back and see the boys cruise away for a comfortable win.
Jake Stringer is worth every single cent we're paying him. He changes the game by himself. Raw power, talent, strength. Unreal. 5 goals and a clear best on-ground performance.
Sexy Guelfi is turning into a very handy utility, and was rewarded this week with a new one-year deal. You'd think he would have got two, but if he keeps this up then the rest will take care of itself.
The mid-season draft has really been a great thing for us. Will Snelling is a lock for best 22 every week, and Sam Durham is starting to do much the same. A brilliant performance and his first goal.
Sam Draper is a genuine mad dog. A completely dominant performance against Zac Smith and a huge presence around the ground leads into a huge clash with Brodie Grundy this week.
Zach and Darcy are going from strength to strength this year leading into a finals series that no one really thought we could make. If they combine for 75 touches this week, they will break the record for most possessions by a set of teammates in a season.
Jayden Laverde should be in the AA squad of 40, at least. He's very rarely been beaten this season, and has been a genuine revelation since moving to full back.

COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES

Cruuuuushed by the fists of Jooooeee.
Continuing the theme that Collingwood has of being belted around by Joe Daniher, the Magpies were comprehensively smacked last week to the tune of 85 points.
The Pies stuck with Brisbane for the first quarter, but were broken in the second and conceded fourteen goals in the next two quarters.
The Pies generated only 5 inside 50s in the second quarter whilst conceding a ballistic 26.
de Goey started well in the midfield but faded as the game went on, finishing with 27 touches.
Jack Crisp was Collingwood's best on the night, finishing with 30 touches under huge pressure in the backline.
Adding insult to injury was Brody Mihocek being told he has to have this week off after introducing his shoulder to Tom Fullarton's face.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So, as such, Collingwood have made three changes, with Jay Rantall and Tom Wilson making it back into the lineup. Jeremy Howe returns for the final game of the Pies frankly disastrous 2021 season, and will be captain this afternoon. Brody Mihocek can book his September holidays (to his backyard) early after he was suspended for his high hit last week. Trey Ruscoe will miss through injury, whilst Beau McCreery and Finlay Macrae have been dropped.

I suspect we'll see Nik Cox as sub today.

This is it. Our fortunes are in our own hands.

We win, we're in the finals. Hell, I've written this a few days before, so we might already be in there.

At the start of the season, we were tipped to go Bottom 4. Only a few wins. New coach, first year of a rebuild, no expectation.

And yet, here we are.

Finals beckons. We've proven that we can beat anyone on our day, and we have this one last hurdle before we can start to think about September action. We get the chocolates here, and we're in.

Let's get it done!

Does the dead rubber status help or hinder us? No nerves but maybe players competing for a spot next week.

Can anyone recall if Essendon has had a good percentage AND it has been of relevance? Its a good measure of our ability to stick tough in games, Mostly.

Late change? Tempted to "rest" a key player and give Hooker a farewell game? Assume a fine would be issued as he isn't on the emergency list.

I'm not an admirer of giving games just as a send off, but Hooker is one bloke that probs deserves one. Sacrificed his game when we needed a forward, he was an AA backman at the time and has given his all for the club. Would of loved to see him as an emergency get a late call up.
But in saying that I love how Truck isn't giving out "free" games of footy.
