However rookie players can be traded…When a rookie is traded, it's usually done in conjunction with trading a primary list player or a draft pick from another club

No, it’s actually the complete opposite.

2024: North beat us in a late season game … we get Lalor at #1.

2023: North beat GC in final round and lose Harley Reid.

2017: they win the final round against Lions and finish 15th when a loss has them 18th and get Cam Rayner.

So North have actually made a habit of teaching their players the importance of ‘winning’ end of season games and it has cost them 3 x #1 picks.

I’m not saying we should tank and I hope we beat North (and still finish below Bombers). But winning end of season games has been a disaster for North and taught them absolutely nothing and done nada for their ‘culture’.

North don't play to win though given the way they continue to chop and change their line up, rather than focusing on the long term development of their players.

We on the other hand have been steadfast in our approach, especially this year as the structure and game plan have remained constant even when injuries have forced changes to the line up.

That is what I mean by playing to win. It's the long term approach rather than looking for the quick results.
