Just saw Geelong has only Toby Conway on their injury list. Rankine aside, the Crows will have everyone back for finals.

Some teams have been truly blessed with injury this year. Perhaps our more difficult draw takes a toll eventually.

And shorter pre-season. Very short for a lot of them given how many finished last year injured

shortest pre season two years in a row has to have an impact. Mentally and physically.

Even winning has a mental fatigue factor (i'm told, not experienced 🤣) - all that excitement and buzz then nothing, back to hard slog. What goes up must come down.

The Gabba this year with one game to play.
A mixed bag of results.

6 wins: Eagles 19, Cats 9, Suns 17, Bombers 18, Power 28, Dogs 10
4 losses: Pies 52, Demons 11, GWS 11 and Swans 2

So, we beat 3 good sides and lost to 2 good sides
Hopefully Sunday we make that 4 & 2
If there is one genuine mulligan this year it would be the pies game. 5 day break after a game in 34 degrees, and we were running on fumes after a weird start to the year

Felt like the dogs and suns games we were well on top and that margin flatters the oppo

It's still an underwhelming record isn't it. Our biggest win is all of 28 points! and that game was genuinely close in the last quarter when port had what 3 injuries?

The only gabba game done and dusted this year was the suns game. Every other side was in the game at halfway through the last quarter. That really is incredible. Including wce and essendon. We really have not put away sides at all at home have we.

We can theorise all we like, but I guess we'll never no for sure why and how we flipped from being almost invincible at the Gabba and very vulnerable on the road to the complete opposite !

I think we've been a bit of a free hit for a lot of teams being the reigning premiers

No real pressure on them to be that competitive has allowed them to play with freedom whereas a lot of our players just expect us to win

Consecutive shorter pre seasons didn't seem to affect this lot playing 4 GFs on the trot and winning 3.:DStarted taking its toll on the last Saturday in September 2004 though.:(

Yep, 2004 was a horror. I was there and the pain is still real the only thing that made it a bit better was seeing Port the next year cop an all time flogging. I think 2004 was the year they found 22 empty vials of pain killer in the dressing room and Lappin played with a fibreglass mould over his ribs and flying down there they had the plane at minimum altitude. They were a very beat up lot that year, Lynchy last 1 minute and tore his hamstrings and bloody Warren Tredrea stood on the fence at the end right infront of us singing the Power song - god I hate that moment still.

I was there as well, about a dozen rows back from the Lynch Wakelin haymaker fest.

And add to that Thompson (Geelong coach) doing jokes about the how sweaty the chair Leigh sat in when doing his press conference after the game at the MCG WHEN THE GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE GABBA.

I didn’t go to 2001,2002 or 2003, but decided to go to 2004. I also went to 2023. Decided to stay away last year, despite the offer of a ticket.

Looking to break the “CURSE OF 3KZ” this year.

And so it begins ... must remember not to let Bruce (who I like) start to feel like little Nicky where folk's over the top praising or constant referencing inspired a level of push back and souring.

I want him to come good but I don't want to know his every stat and why he is each games messiah...
I had noted this Viceregal and I know Sunny Land has posted something similar. Can I just say that there is a healthy dose of self deprecation and contrived super fandom in my Lester posts. It’s been a bit of fun on our board and people have been happy to get on the bandwagon, but you only get one Ryan Lester in your time on BigFooty and I’ve had mine.

I don’t propose to try to repeat my schtick with Bruce Reville, but I do see some really clear qualities that I believe will see him become a regular in our seniors and in time, a celebrated player in a team of stars. First and foremost Reville is incredibly balanced on his feet and this means that he moves with grace and precision. He combines this with excellent disposal by foot, in terms of hitting targets, penetration and accuracy. His ability to take a contested mark is an added bonus and although he is not an out and out speedster, he is quick. Finally, he has the capacity to run both ways and stick his tackles. I look forward to watching him cement his spot in the team and our folklore.

Just don’t expect a blow by blow statistical justification for why he needs to be in the seniors each week. I’ll let his football do the talking.

I remember them kicking Browny Lychy behind the knees!!!

That was funny, I reckon Lynchy did his hammy in the warm up and knew he wasn't going to play any part so tried to take Wakelin out with him. Only issue was that Lynchy couldn't connect with the haymakers he was throwing so limped off, game over.

I think it opens a spot for Annable and rotating mids forward

Clearly not like for like but we'll want to pump games into him

Also hopefully we rookie McFadyen and he could potentially be used in a similar role
I don’t see Annable playing in the forward line, just doesn’t have the acceleration or speed to play there.

He’s an inside/balanced mid, who can drift forward and snag a goal, but he doesn’t have the game to play a quarter there and apply the appropriate defensive pressure.

I like McFadyen. Seems to have a good footy IQ. Wouldn't be surprised to see him picked up before we got a chance to rookie him.
Already being talked as one of the top mature age draft prospects.

However I am pretty sure he was listed as part of this years academy crop as an overage member.

So we have bid matching rights.

So you'd play him in the VFL until Lachie retires?
