Autopsy Round 3, 2020: Collingwood v St.Kilda

I said earlier in the week that it was odd we were getting all this publicity for our performance against the Bulldogs. I was hesitant to back us again this week, and it was definitely unusual with how much praise we got during the week.

Consistency has been our issue for years. This is not an anomaly. This is who we are. Poor.

Expected result, worst thing is how many expected us to win because of one result.

Far way off, especially on the wide MCG.

Hated the talked of Josh Bruce being jealous of us, look how that’s changed in one week.

That’s why we weren’t given a FTA, need to earn it. Really looked slack all game, no fight.

Butler, King and Paton our best.

Didn’t think Marsh was as bad as people made out.

Hill Hannebery and Ross were all woeful, as was Lonie and Coffield (second half not as bad).

Reality check, Collingwood are too clinical and polished for us. We need more cohesion going through the middle and we need to help Jones with inside work. Gresh is okay but his disposal is a disgrace.

Well at least it didn’t blow out to 10 goals.

Our midfield was blown away, not sure we have anyone to bring in to fix that. Jury is back to being out as to whether we are better off with just Marshall or with Marshall and Ryder. Membery did nothing again, struggling in the new forward set up perhaps? it would also probably be good to get Webster back into that backline, sorry Coff.

Butler and Max King our only real threats forward of centre this week. Gresh fought hard but his kicking was meh and Longy was probably among our best tonight.

Really disappointing effort from our mids

Steele, our inside bull, gets 6 contested possessions

Gresham fought hard but his decision making and skills were poor

Ross and and Hanners sat out waiting for cheap kicks and rarely looked like they were out of second gear

Hill had plenty of it but most were cheapies in the back half

What really let us down was our pressure around the footy. They were able to just cruise around.

It was a mistake not sending someone to Sidebottom.

I don't believe selection played too much a role in that, we just got pantsed in the middle which gave our forwards no opportunity and put our backs under pressure from the start.

Pies are clearly a quality side. Don't mind a loss, but that effort wasn't good enough.

Wow that little bubble of belief got popped well and truly.

We were literally slaughtered through the ruck and midfield stoppages. Ratts made an error not tagging Pendelbury.

Ratts and his team got a lesson in pressure football.

The only positives were Long, Paton & Carlisle down back. Butler up forward the rest were very ordinary. Plus I put $$$ on Butler to be 1st goal kicker paying $19.

Coffield has a haircut from the 1970s division 2 vfa league. He also plays like that too. Can’t believe Webster, savage have been over-looked. No more coff for the year and please get a haircut.

Gresh out of the midfield and replace with dunstan. Gresh fights with lonie for the small fwd possie, as butler has locked his place in.

Need some drive and pace from defence, Webster and/or savage.

Need another marking option with battle, but we need to only have 1 ruck with the shorter quarters.
