We know you’re a hater Squashy
I'd love to see Culley in, but for the moment Ginbey has that role for various reasons. Midfield composition could change pretty quickly so having Culley available and fresh off a training-the-house-down preseason is one area of luxury. Ideally, we would have the "y" midfield - Shuey, Yeoh, Kelly, Culley and Ginbey with Sheeyyd and Gaffy as well. Maybe that will happen before years' end.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one 👍🏻

Im with you on this one.

Will Schofields reputation after his best game of his career inthe 2018 GF win certainly elevated his standings.

Performing well on the big stage at the big dance sorts out the greats from the champions.

Ginbey isnt keeping Culley out of the side.

Minor injury niggles are.

All of Yeo, Ginbey and Culley will play in the same side when fully fit.

Of course it does, why do former players on TV get introduced as X times premiership player for example, be one of the reasons why Cameron Ling or Jordan Lewis got gigs on TV.

You don’t have to win a Brownlow either to be regarded as a great but it helps…..

Tony Evens played 108 games for the club and probably would be hard to remember him but of course he is a two times premiership player and played well in the grand final in 1992 so he’s highly regarded.

I never said that you had to win one to be regarded as a good or great player, there are dozens of greats that never won one but if you do it goes on your resume and enhances your football career.

Robert Flower was a fantastic player, and an icon of his time. I don't think he ever even played in a final, let alone a flag.
Ah but if he was Robert Flower 5 times premiership player his reputation would be even greater……..Dozens of greats haven’t won Flags but if you do it goes on your career highlights so it enhances one’s reputation.

Brereton's career definitely is remembered as being far greater than it actually was, due to premierships and cheap hits.

It can elevate a reputation for sure, but it isn't a prerequisite.

Take the example of Lockett vs Dunstall. Dunstall won four flags, Lockett didnt play in a GF. Yet I think most would have Lockett ahead of Dunstall as a better full forward (all-time leading goal kicker in the AFL playing most his career at the Saints). Ablett Snr, probably better than both and arguably the best to play the game (Top 5 in any case) played in 4 GFs I think, lost all four but picked up a Norm and kicked bags. I think winning one of those flags would have rounded out his resume for sure but Im not sure it would have have put him any higher on most peoples lists of greats of all time.

Just the flag alone doesn't make me think one player is better than another as it can often be a case of a better player playing in a worse team. Individual awards such as a Norm Smith moves the needle but and individual performances on the big stage can also enhance a reputation (such as Schoey). Just the flag itself doesn't work as a metric for me.

*Lockett played in the 1996 GF for Sydney that they lost to North

Doesn’t invalidate what you’ve said but he did play a GF. Kicked 3 from memory

Edit : Double checked and he actually kicked 6

If you triple check you’ll find he actually kicked 9

I think Schofield's standing as a solid but selfish rebounding third tall is masked by his epic GF performance where he was probably the second best player on the ground.

Conversely we all think of Steven Armstrong as that anonymous dude who played in 06. The same way Mitch Morton probably was for Sydney, played, what, 4 games all season and the GF happened to be one. Notable perhaps, but reputation not enhanced

You hate Schofield almost as much as Dark Sharks hates Culley.

True story, I met him at an Eagles function when he was a newly drafted.
We're about the same age, everyone else was older and talking to Murray Rance (I think it was Rance).
I was asking about moving over, Matt Spangher (who was our board cult hero of the time), expectations etc. Super duper nice dude.

The next time I saw the guy at JK's bed shop he was literally knocking little kids over to avoid having to sign their shirt.
Cmon man, bad look.

Was trying to think if Sydney played in one during his time there- had forgotten they played the 96 GF.

Yeah this is true. The bloke came into my shop and ate all the food and drank all the drinks and left nothing for anyone else

Wouldn't mind those 3 as our mid-3. A very sore oppo mid brigade I reckon

Shuey continues off HB. Sheed out to the wing. Both rotate through mid. Gaff (E) every week. Dreams can happen ...

You would play two in the centre at any one time with a fast agile rover feeding off them. A Kelly for example.

The third one is the rotation. Two can play defence and Culley can rest forward.

Or they just rotate off the bench.

I once saw Schoey with his mum+dad, at a Mandurah cafe by the estuary.
They were sitting at a table opposite us, and he ignored me the whole time?
C'mon dude, make an effort!
Wasn't my kid he ignored, no dog in the fight - but given it was an event spruiked by the club for a fundraiser BBQ, it was poor form
