Review Round 3, 2026 vs West Coast

I would agree except it’s always Port with the absolute harsh calls. Never the other team as well

Yeah, I kind of think she's actually brilliant at what she's trying to do.

We'll get her again in the Showdown. Probably Nosferatu Nicholls as well. Like they'd need the leg up

It's dawned on me what went wrong on Sunday. It was Educator's Round, so we just knocked off 90 minutes before everyone else, like teachers do.

Aaaaand, I'm outta here :D

I couldn’t understand why Mead was taking so many kickins, especially compared to Farrell. He doesn’t have a penetrating kick and I can remember one howler when he kicked it directly to an Eagles player.

I suspect that was a Carr instruction
Luko should take every kick in with his distance and accuracy.

Of he ran it 20 metres then booted it, we'd be 80 from goal and at worst to a contest

Eleni is classic quota meeting in a male dominated sport - we just keep copping the shit for her ineptitude.

And if people cry out the criticism is because she is female, i'd call bullshit. Kelli Underwood was shitcanned as a commentator and the same excuses came, until Jess Webster pops up and absolutely nails it proving it has everything to do with, you know, doing your job.

Don't care about the gender - just be good at your job.

102 games in 10 seasons and yet to umpire a solitary final.

Seems counterintuitive given her profile and purported acumen, doesn’t it.

Perhaps that will change with the addition of wild card round.

Lol wildcard round to include even the shittiest of umpires.

We waited at the ground for a replay, and when eventually shown, the camera was 200m away.. no close up no nothing.

live it looked like a half volley.
Didn't need a replay, because you could tell Reid didn't mark it because he made no attempt to even claim, was immediately attempting to avoid getting tackled.
The only kick in he tried to pinpoint went right to a WC player.
Except he didn't do that. It was a kick that went straight to a Port player, except the West Coast forward read the kick and quickly moved across to intercept it. Mead didn't pinpoint the WC player.

Doesn't want to expose himself to the hit.
Well this is where the coach steps in. Get the strongest players on our list and spend the next training session physically pummelling him. Do it over & over at training sessions until he learns to cope with it. While this is happening play him in the 2s. And I'm not kidding.

We got her week 1, she was terrible. She got 'dropped' for week 2. We get her week 3 and she was even worse. Lets see if we get her next week.

I said it during the game, we cop her all the time because we don't matter. The AFL don't care, they just want to have a female umpire, but need to make sure she screws over a team/s that won't kick up a stink. Which we don't. She is I think partly a cheat and partly incompetent. Was made even more infuriating on the weekend that one umpire called almost every short pass we made 'Not 15', meanwhile she paid them marks that went 6 metres (and bounced).

I am sure she (may be) a lovely person. But she is one of the worst umpires I have ever seen and has been 'gifted' over 100 AFL games. If she was a male umpire she would be doing the Amo's.

Carr in the presser said the players post-match thought we were too safe with the ball in the middle of the game, we were a bit faster in the last but they asked Carr if we should have went quicker in the middle of the game as well.
Players should have been told they were too SOFT in the middle of the game

The alarm bells were already ringing in that second term. A bit concerning how poor that quarter was and the third term response after we had the half time break and chance to reset.

I dont think that's true. She always does the early Sunday game because that is considered the worst game of the round (it also gets what are considered the worst commentators Dwayne/ Dermie etc). Now we get a few of those games, but based upon our performances last season and this one, its hard to argue when we play other average sides that we shouldnt be in that timeslot

Well it isn't like we could have drafted the others since they were like 12 at the time.
Except given we had 2 Duursma's, if we'd kept them, we'd have been a great chance to get the youngest down the line. Would have been a better choice than McEntee hanging around for years.

Tbf any game she umpires is essentially 'Wild Card' round as nobody has a clue what the fcuk she is doing

Including her.
The best part was in the space of a few minutes she called a soccer off the ground that went 6 metres a mark, followed by a ball that bounced a mark and then decided to back those up later by calling an actual mark, not one. Impressive stuff.

Very strange how none of those incorrect decisions benefitted Port Adelaide.

The response is always going to be slower if you are trying to teach the players to lead themselves rather than try and do it for them.

Carr wants the players to learn to recognise that for themselves and to adjust on field (which means it can eventually happen immediately during the game).

In the mean time there will be some trial and error as the players work it out and you might not get the same immediate response as if the coach took charge at half time and gave them a bake.

That kick was not on. Kicking to a stationary Port player whilst the Eagles player was on the move to intercept.

The "not 15" calls were happening so often, but the other one was how quickly we were getting called to play on, when we hadn't gone off the line, nor had we had it for too long.

The bounced one was horrible, but just before that, there was a soccer off the ground that Duursma 'marked', it went about 7m, and she blew a mark.

Yep, saw him as a superstar apparently.
He went completely missing after quarter time.

But I do see something in him that could develop into a good player. So many youngsters are coming into the AFL and hitting the ground running these days, that people have little patience for the ones that take a bit longer to develop.
He's just starting his second season, give him time.

Massive shame that we didn't get Murphy Reid though.
