AFLW Round 3 Discussion - 2020 AFLW season - Teams in OP

Good finish by the Eagles, ran out the game well which is all I was asking for. Baby steps, patience. If they suck next week at home, then put the boot in (although I'd still wait to see how they go in R6 and R8 against fellow expansion teams).

No team this year is as bad as Collingwood last year and I'll fight (yes fight!) anybody who says otherwise.

Ok, so at risk of coming in too early (since over the last two weeks WC got what are arguably the two best teams in the comp and this week the Derby comedown) why are West Coast so bad?

  1. Bad list management?
  2. Bad coaching?
  3. Players that just don't seem to care?
  4. Michelle Cowan (surely you can't repeatedly coach at AFLW sides that are this bad without being cursed?)
  5. Some combination of the above?
Saint Kilda and Gold Coast both look way better then what West Coast have dished out. Blaming expansion for West Coast being so uniquely terrible compared to all the other expansion teams (except maybe Richmond) doesn't cut it.

1, 2 and 4.
I am sure the players care, perhaps too much. Confidence (or the lack of it) is a powerful thing.

Obviously North well on top but shouldn't be 40 points ahead. Richmond poor in the one area they simply had to be better at this week, first three shots on goal were all bad misses.

On the skills: definitely better across the board. Less dropped marks, less fumbling at ground balls, kicking generally going to advantage.

As a whole the teams are also structuring better, at times the first few seasons had a little league vibe with all the players on the ground clumping up.

The gap between the best and worst is huge but the gap between the best and the middle is much, much tighter than it was.

Well, I expected those two results, but not those two margins.

Pity for the expansion teams, but that is always a possibility. It happens in other competitions with expansion teams too. Competitions with mature fields of juniors to draw upon.

Geelong up a gear to start the 2nd half, a couple of disappointing finishing attempts though.

And then Ponter pulls a ring-a-ring-o'-rosie on McDonald for the buffer Adelaide needed. It's a good contest, this.
