Martin was placed under absolutely no pressure for the entire game on Sunday, neither was Delidio or Cotchin. Not sure why, but I can't see the Pies making the same mistake. It was a good performance by him and Richmond in general, but not convinced it would have been the same against another opponent.

I'm worried about Martin this weekend as well. I think Collingwood will make it a key point to shutdown the handball receive that Richmond use so well with Martin, Cotchin and Deledio.

It may be the turning point for Martin. He may step up into the elite on the basis of this breakout match. But my thoughts are that other teams wont just allow him to run loose. I'm watching him to see signs of consistency, but not bringing him in this week.

True, but he's fitter and running out games better.

I'm taking the punt.

Your call and hopefully it pays off for you. There were moments last match when he had to come to the bench and rest for long periods, as he had nothing left in the tank. He worked hard for as long as he could, but I think he's still got a way to go.... And again, there was no pressure put on him all day, it's easy to run one way with the ball all day.

Not sure Martin can keep that sort of scoring up. His 93 and 144 were all against ordinary sides and he struggled a bit against Carlton in round 1. His next 3 games will test him out as they are all against good opposition in Collingwood, Freo(away) and Geelong

Other teams are going to tag him over Cotchin and Lids? You're crazy if you think that will ever happen!

Have a look at the game on Sunday, we had no-one applying any pressure at all. Full credit to Richmond for the way they played, but it won't be like that every week.

Don't be so sure about that, Martin has the type of game where if you shutdown his impact you shutdown Richmond's penetration. Depends on the coaches mindset and play, but it could definitely occur in games. Has happened and will happen again into the future.

That doubt is definitely warranted. I picked Martin because of the lack of forward premium options and he had potential to score big which he has already shown. If he scores another 90 odd this week he moves up to around 495k which is just short of SJ. I'm not against trading him out if I think he has reached top $.

But in saying that, I don't think it's out of the question for him to be a top 10 scoring forward this year. If it wasn't for his poor tank then he would be a lock but unfortunately second half fadeouts are going to happen. The positive is that Martin runs hard to get cheap possessions and his teammates look to give him the ball when ever they can. Not many other forward options are like that.

Cotchin is very difficult to tag so coaches may soon decide that the hard tag has to go to Deledio and Martin. I would think Martin is a lot easier to tag. Run with him and cut off his handball receives, make him work for his possessions which will wear his questionable tank out and send him forward.

It happens quite often. Stanton getting tagged over Watson, Gaff getting tagged etc. It doesn't have to be the best player.

End of the day, everyone should know the risks of selecting Martin and be prepared for some frustrating games along with his good ones.

There's no real guide on how to do well in DT.

Nothing beats keeping an eye on players, role changes, etc. You can have a team full of mid-pricers if you believe they're all good value and do extremely well - see SkankDanker (AKA Chook Raffle I think). However, many believe that the guns 'n' rookies approach can produce the same output plus minimise risk. Go where the value is and you'll be set IMO.

Cheers for the shout out mate, hope you are having a good start.

I have gone for a few mid-pricers this year- some have worked well: Jack Steven, Jarrad McVeigh & Moloney (popular) have been welcome additions to my team. Breust OK. McVeigh was really a pick due to his draw and good form. Hanley has been good, but is not really a mid-pricer in the backs.

Unfortunately a few of my others such as Lewis Jetta and Embley have been pretty disastrous. I expected a bit more from Jetta from his draw, at least a few weeks of decent scores. Let me down!

But it gives me flexibility to jump on rookies I have missed, so we will see!

Easy done, top DT'er. :thumbsu:

Yeah I was predicting Embley to unleash last weekend and send me up the rankings as well haha. Disaster!

I thought he looked a bit slow, and was a spectator, only providing one highlight and that was as a step ladder for Howe! He will come good by the middle of the year but who has time, his injury means he is gaaaawn.

I have a bit of cash fortunately, so can upgrade him. Annoying, I thought a guy like him would have such a fitness base that even off an interrupted pre-season sub would be out of the question, let alone the wandering zombie display he put on last week. Never again!

List of disappointing players:

Le Cras - gone, and suddenly back quickly once I traded him for:
Karnezis - 9 Points and a miss
Ryder - low scores and now gone
Broughton - low scores and missed agame
Heppell - average still good, but only because of one game, expected more consistency
Roughead - below his best scorewise, too
Patton - gone for the year
Waters - does normally well, but too prone to missing games
Suban - has really dropped after round one

No player who did really betetr then expected. Think I messed it up big time this year. Surprisingly I won one league (actually having the second lowest score).

Can't say I'm displeased that I chose not to go for Martin in the end.
