Liked: The Cut of Chad Wingard's jib
Learnt: Collingwood are not "all that"
Hated: flipping Shit Umpiring. I don't blame the fellas doing it, but the interpretation they are being asked to apply is so goddamn technical, that it is turning all of us off ATM. Tell them to umpire every game like the GF is umpired.

Liked:

the results of the 9 matches emphasising this is a national comp.
the fine wins by the Go Co and Lions
some terrific young players have debuted this year

Learnt:

Bar a couple of perennial Melbourne based strugglers, the comp is even.

Hated:

Crazy umpiring calls and that umpiring standards are setting new low bars

Dislike; I was very confident and tipped the Suns would beat the Doggies within seconds of the dogs victory over Hawthorn last week but change my tip
to the Dogs 1 hour before the game.

Loved- The MCG no longer has a hold over us
Learnt- That West Coast CAN get better this year
Hated- The Fyfe head clash. I’ll be honest, can’t stand the guy, but no one wants to see serious head injuries in our game

Liked
- Breust and Wingard will be a nightmare match-up for teams this year.
- Jordan Clark is looking like a steal for the Cats.
- Harry McKay is going to be a quality forward when he puts it all together.
- Alex Sexton has been the best small forward this year so far.
- Oscar McInerney is proving to be a valuable forward/second ruck.

Learnt
- Sydney are better with McCartin in the team.
- Melbourne badly need a quality outside midfielder.
- If Coniglio doesn't get you, Toranto will.
- West Coast have so many quality key position players. Oscar Allen looks a good prospect.
- Fremantle are one quality midfielder away from potentially being a really good team.

Hated
- Remove the sliding below the knees rule. You can't penalise a player who's instict is simply going for the ball.
- Paul Seedsman knee injury.

Liked: Winning in Adelaide, Constable, Clark and Miers...
Learnt : Ablett up forward will extend his career, It's a very even competition, Brisbane will play finals

Hated: The absurdity of the below the knees rule, it's absolutely insane, it's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!
PS: Totally despised the defending of this rule by Healy and his mad mob "On The Couch". They should all be sacked including Jonathan Brown who i have mistakenly believed was in favour of the ball gatherer? They are all imbeciles.... the lot of them! They all missed the point!
Every coach every player has ever had in this game since the age of six has been told "get to the ball first" ....If these blokes believe what Phillips natural instinct told him to do in getting to the ball first is wrong, then this game is really doomed and cannot be saved. No more "On the Couch" for me...

Queensland footy. Brisbane 3-0 and GC 2-1 after round 3.
Gaff’s return and Eagles’ performance in Melbourne
AFL becoming a true national competition with GC and GWS winning
Tall forwards on fire.

Learnt
Oscar Allen, Liam Ryan and Jack Petruccelle will all be stars at the Eagles
Freo are good but need another midfielder to support Fyfe
Comp is becoming more even

Hated
Fyfe getting KO’ed and not stretchered off
Seedsman’s knee injury
Some umpiring decisions

Liked -the Suns,GWS having good wins. The Eagles with Cripps and Gaff back that was a hard fought spirited all round professional effort and they got on the plane and focused on next week straight after the game.
Learned - Melbourne dont have much in the tank right now.Lots of post season surgery and interupted preseason and they will be trying to catch up for a few more rounds I think.Richmond have only beaten the Eagles once in five years and that was by 10 points at the MCG with a late Eagles goal disallowed and a charity free up the other end in the last minute.Dont think they were ever that great and certainly hold no fears for good opposition right now.Port and Brisbane are both good enough to make the finals.
Hated- hates a strong word but umpiring.New rules being overly focused on and inconsistency in other areas is an issue. Also Lingy and the hype up Collingwood tv commentary team.Unlistentoable from my point a view.I saw Trelor take about fifteen running steps with the ball without bouncing it in a play that led to a goal and the commentators didnt even mention that very basic umpiring mistake.

Liked: cats, lions v port - great game for a neutral to watch
Learnt: eagles are definitely the team to beat, st kilda and Gold Coast are a lot better than I thought.
Hated:umpiring - it seems to be getting worse each year, the inconsistency, not only between games, but in the same game. And also the free kicks that aren’t there at all! Umpires are having too great of a say in the outcome of games.
Below the knees rule - needs to be fixed ASAP it is pathetic, it’s turning our game into soccer with all the flopping

The Suns winning against the Bulldogs.
Sexton. He's a freak.
Swallow. He's the captain we should've named years ago.

Learned:
People are way too quick to say the Suns have turned things around. I remember back in 2016 when the Suns defeated the Bombers, the Dockers (remembering, of course, that the Dockers had just won a minor premiership and were presumably still in a premiership window - we blitzed them, and it was utterly unexpected), and Carlton in the opening three rounds, had a percentage of 170.2%, and sat second on the ladder. My heart has been broken too many times by the Suns, so I'll wait a little bit longer before I start thinking we've really turned around.

Hated:
Repeating everybody else's sentiments. The umpiring. Fifty metre penalties are being given away like candy.
I noticed they're not calling back the ball at centre bounces as much, even when the bounce goes askew. Weird.
The free kick that penalised Tom Phillips. My main issue wasn't that it was a free kick, though - my big issue is that the umpire was late to call it, and as a result, players didn't know who it was paid to - and then a 50 metre penalty was leveraged against the Pies as a result of it being late and unclear who it was being paid to. So much so that Pendlebury was like 'wtf' and the umpire's voice broke as he struggled to justify the eff-up. Amateur hour.
I thought 6-6-6 would reduce congestion and make officiating the game easier for umpires. It hasn't.

Oh yeah. Bulldogs must have incriminating photos of the umpires to explain their rub of the green. Wow.

Just on Freo being one quality mid away from being a good team, they had that last year. He plays for Brisbane now. And they were still shit back then.

Liked: The Suns winning two in a row and looking like a settled footy team playing to their capacity. With young talent developing there should be a big upside.

As liz pointed out bith the QLD and NSW teams won on the weekend. A great week for the clubs on the AFL frontier.

Another great day at Giants Stadium with a good crowd, atmosphere, and a good win.

Learnt:

The Tigers are under real pressure for the first time for a while and the signs are they aren't handling it well. You'd be a fool to think Dusty's petulance wasn't enabled at least somewhat by the coaches attitude to him getting some attention. Are they missing Riewoldts influence on the field as well as his footy talent?

The Bulldogs are pretenders, vulnerable in the ruck and on the outside that good teams will exploit all season .

The Eagles are the benchmark this year. It's a long way from September, but their setting the bar and everyone else has to try and jump it.

Hated: The horrible head clash Fyfe received, hopefully it's a lot more minor than it looked.

Hardwick being petulant and petty on the weekend. Compare it to Leon post game after the 2017 PF when he defended Cotchins hIt on Shiel. Even in Saturday both Leon and Mummy refused invitations from the press to have a go at the Tigers.

Kenners got straight up and got on with the game after being hit off the ball with an elbow to the back of the head.
Mutual respect Dimma.

Liked- Being at the Gabba for those last 5 minutes, Port had total control of the game and our surge appeared to come from nowhere, we have belief.
Learnt- West Coast are clear premiership favorites, with Nic Nat and Rioli to come back in they are looking ominous for back to back..... although so were the Tigers last year.
Hated- Injuries and the bloody soft free kicks, it's encouraging our players to become soccer players and stage/simulate for free kicks, HATE IT.

Liked- That winning feeling again but boy is it going to be a tough month ahead. Suns actually looking like a fairly well structured team with confidence to boot. Freo, Sun's, St Kilda all having a positive start to the year.

Learn't - Brisbane are a big shot for finals, the resilience they showed to overcome Port's momentum holds them in good stead. Buddy is really struggling,

Hated- The Sunday scheduling , Bring back the earlier game .

Liked -
Brisbane and Gold Coast - Brilliant wins, Brisbane a wonderful to watch.
Another win at the MCG against quality opposition in Collingwood

Learnt Geelong are red hot and will take some hard work to beat them
Hated - Umpiring decisions are killing the game, thanks for nothing Steve Hocking

The rule is fifteen meters not fifteen steps even if you average a meter a step a step, what's the problem ?

Hate that every year the officiating gets worse. Umpires are turning the tide of games and ARE affecting the outcome of games. Almost won a game for the Bulldogs yesterday. Turned the tide agaisnt Port with the BS free to Neale for ducking. Inconsistency from one end of the ground to another with decisions within seconds of each other that are totally different. And the 50's. Oh lord the 50's. The AFL need to do something but won't because they just deny any issues and coaches cannot comment on it. Watching games over the course of a weekend becomes difficult even as a neutral in games due to the shithousery.
