Agree with the calls of sadness rather than anger ATM, it's just very disappointing. To watch us be constantly second to the ball and lack desperation was a joke. You have to want the ball and alot of the time we just stood flatfooted and watched Essendon run away with the ball.

Btw who the hell was on Riemers?? He was on his own so many times on the rebound which set up easy goals.

I ain't willing to call season over after Round 3. Yes, we played ridiculously shit tonight, no questions, and yes, if we continue on this path, then finals are gone. But who says we aren't going to improve?

Our run does look bleak for the next 6 or so weeks, but if we can just lift our standard and scavenge 2-3 wins, then anything is possible. Surprised that I'm trying to be so level-headed, but trust me I am not feeling too great.

Gibbs, just like one of those football teams in your progile Juventus, we have a poor coach who cant get the best out of our players, have no idea in terms of attacking and we are run by ex champion players who are not at the level we need them to be.

Season is over, Adeliade away is a loss and geelong, collingwood and st kilda will rape us hardcore!!

To those posters who want to adopt the blame the coach hysteria, perhaps take a closer look at the players. Ask yourself why some players aren't prepared to bleed for the Navy Blue & White guernsey.

We won premierships in the '70s & early '80s, not because we had a team full of stars (we had a few), but because we had players who would go out most weeks & leave nothing on the field. At the moment I don't believe all of the 22 players we are putting on the field really want to give all they have for the guernsey. That could change, but at the moment I think our players need a reminder of what it means to wear the Navy Blue & White.

I didn't lock the threads concerned but if a moderator feels that every time someone has a thought through anger they shouldn't need to start a thread, that that is common sense. I wonder if people know the difference between repetitive angry ranting and constructive criticism. Try to keep the frustration in the match day thread, and if you have a salient point other than 'sack the coach' or 'drop everybody', that offers something worthy of a new thread, then go for it.

Emotional time, please stop locking every thread cos we have a whinge.

I locked two threads because we don't need the front page of our board being filled up with new threads by every disenchanted Carlton supporter. By all means have a rant, but let's keep it to one thread, so us Mods don't spend half the bloody night jumping from thread to thread trying to tidy up the inevitable blood-letting that occurs after every loss.

Pull your head out of your backside son. If you can't handle hearing about the factual situation of our club go support someone like the Western Bulldogs or StKilda for whom a top 4 finish is an achievement.

We are Carlton - anything but a flag is failure.

I hope not, the next 6 weeks is the time when we need to either stand up or peel over. After that we will know but based on tonight's performance it's not looking good.

Tonight we lacked leadership, we needed some players to stand up and be counted. Sadly it didn't happen...juddy was a big out tonight but even without him we should of done so much better. This game was there for the taking but nobody wanted to put their hand up. No excuses tonight, it was just crap.

I strongly disagree.

These are professional football players. It is part of their job to be fully prepared - including motivated - when they take the field.

As an aside to that, if we have players at the Carlton FC who need external motivation to play at their very best for the club I for one don't want them there.

Blame the coach for tactics, etc all you like, but don't hang on him the responsibility for players to be mentally at 100% when representing the Blues.

+1 So fustrating to watch! We absolutely butchered the ball tonight, reminded me of how we used to play in our darker days.

Definitely feeling sad and dis-heartened tonight, it's bad enough losing but losing to the Bombers is even worse. I honestly don't know why we can't beat them.

We do have a tough run coming up, but our season is far from over. They'll be tough but the games are winable. I admit we'll have to play A LOT better than what we did tonight, but IMO we can win at least 2 of the next 4.

Essendon have been our bogey side for a while. Whilst I agree with the lack of motivation, I don't think Ratten can be blamed for our poor performance tonight. If you can't kick straight then you don't score. Pretty Simple really.

What do you want Ratten to do about it? You can drill until the cows come home but game day nerves will always be a factor.

Our problem is mostly between the ears.

OK. Sorry to all the "behind Ratts all the way" folks, but he waits far too long to make moves that look obvious early in the game. Waite was doing very little up forward, certainly couldn't take a contested mark and Essendon's forwards were much taller than our backs. When does Ratts make the change? When the game is all but over. We thought the move could have been made late in the first quarter it was so apparent.

I have never seen Murphy miss so many targets by hand or foot in his entire career I reckon. That was a real worry to see, but we won't see it as bad as that again you'd think.

Too many players had too little impact. I'm struggling to think of them all, they seemed to be missing for so much of the night ...

We played like shit I know, but the umpiring in Carlton Essendon games really needs to be looked at, tonight it was nothing short of atrocious. And I was watching it with an Essendon supporter who agreed wholeheartedly!

henderson at least led and made himself as an option, you cant single his disposal out as not one player kicked or handballed half decent tonight. The sucked as a whole as did our coach.

one thing is for sure, gibbs and murphy have a lot to answer for tonight, they are meant to step it up when judd is not there, absolutely crap.
