Mate whether you are either Port or Crow you need professional help if you live your life with that sort of attitude.

Sorry for identifying an area of weakness in my life that I need to improve upon and then try to fix it.

I guess I should continue to abuse alcohol and keep on getting into social mischief

it's just not worth the effort.........Their "moronic minority" seem to be far more aggressive than most.

I swore off away showdowns a couple of years ago after not missing one since 1997.

Pity - but it's just not enjoyable
The Away Showdown is the best game of the year. There is roughly a 50/50 split in the crowd and it is easily the loudest, most intense atmosphere we get all season. Banter between supporters, some good natured, some not. Fireworks on and off the field. Back to the good old SANFL days when it was tribal warfare and you try and out-yell the opposition.

I agree, I enjoy the 'away' showdown better than when it's our home game, I think also its the real die hard AFC members/supporters that pay their money to go so you get the better AFC supporters rather than the knitting club that normally turns up.

So you don’t consider Mad Dog or Nikkinoo as die hard member of the Adelaide Crows? Both have openly said that they will not be going to the game this week.

People don’t go to an ‘Away’ showdown for there own individual reason, you can’t say someone is not a die hard member because they don’t go to the away shown.

Also when it is an Adelaide home Showdown Port seem to thrive on the 'everyone's against us, backs-to-the-wall, shove-it-up-them, knock-them-off-their-pedestal, rain-on-their-parade' mentality. Enough cliches? :D

If we get off to a bad start in a home Showdown I can always feel an anxious 'boy are we gonna cop it from those Port suppoters' vibe from the crowd. Winning an away Showdown is sweeter. Winning a home Showdown is a relief.

Carl - If I was there with my mates - it would be fine....I'd camp outside for days......:D ....Bring. It. On.

When you're taking the family - it's just not worth it

Anyhow back to the actual game.....

They may play a tall forward line (Lade, Tredrea, White), trying to expose us a bit. However their game is not about kicking it long and high, so smaller defenders will do OK assuming the midfielders help out with pressure and blocking the space.

Bassett on Ebert.

Cornes to get Bock, which should make him more accountable. Either that or whoever Cornes goes on - go and play up the field.

We have more depth & grunt in the midfield. They have more pace. Win the ball from the contested plays and win the game. Their game is supposedly about run and run, which means they always have a couple of players forward of the pack. We need to ensure we cover these flankers (that is spelt with fl not wa).

I would play Massie. 2 defensive players out, we need another in, unless everyone now sees Douglass as a defender? Massie can tag & play on Ebert.

Douglas still lacks the muscle to play effectively in one-out situations. He would work as a floating loose defender a little better imo. Massie in for Johncock, Porplyzia/Vince in for Shirley to be the likely changes I would think.

looking forward to watching the game on tele....

There's no question that if the same side that belted the Bulldogs turns up on Saturday afternoon - we will win comfortably. Port Power have alot of fantastic runners - but then again.......so do the Bulldogs.....;)

Looking at both Team's form it's difficult to draw a line.

For The Port Powers, winning in the West is always tough, so that must be respected - but coming from behind to beat Fremantle may not be the massive achievement it looks on paper. Fact is - both of Port Power's victims are currently sitting 0 and 2 at the bottom of the table....and both games were not decided until very late. So some care is needed here in rating those wins.

On the other hand, as for Adelaide - what was described by some pointy headed journalists as a season ending first round loss against Essendon ( )....is tempered by the fact that the Bombres are 2 and 0 at the Top of the Table....and in good form. Following up with a win against "the only Victorian side that can win the flag" and maybe our form isn't that bad either.....

Either way - it's always a close game.

  • hopefully Shirl and Bird will come up - but His Hardness will be a massive loss.
  • Shirl and The Great Man II to take the Burgoynes.
  • Macca to take Pearce
  • I would like to see Edwards play on ball as much as possible.
  • Hopefully our forwards can stay out of each other's way and make some space.
  • Rutten to enjoy another run on the Wing.
  • That leaves Ebert who has been in good form and maybe too much for Torney - so possibly Mattner might get the job.

In: Burton, (Porps)
Out: Stiffy, (Shirley)

It is disappointing to hear that some of you Crowies won't be coming along to see your team play.

I would like to hear about specific examples of how Port supporters have put you off so much ... ?

Some Port people can appear aggressive and feral, but a lot of those same people would probably buy you a beer or shake your hand afterward the game as well.

I have been in plenty of verbal stoushes at Showdowns, I see them as just that, a bit of a laugh, some banter. I once had Crows fans move away from me because they were bagging Port and I said "Look at the scoreboard". Pretty harmless stuff but I heard the lady say "This is why I don’t want to come to Showdowns anymore". I couldn't believe it. That is what makes Showdowns special!

Could it be that Port people are used to the old school SANFL rivalry stuff and Crows fans, having such a majority at home games don’t tend to mingle with opposition fans as much?

I dont have any Port strories but if they are like the West Coast fans then pass.

''do you have to yell for your team every 5 minutes, we paid good money to watch OUR team'

'' hahhaha u dead****s lost 2 the bestside in the fugging world letsgetanudda beer im smashed''

I had 4 West Coasters jump me at the Prelim 2 years ago when i dared to call the last quarter fade a choke... after Chick kicked the sealer the 4 of them jumped on me saying ''choke on that ya prick''

Some people dont know how to behave at football

There is always going to be the **** head element. Every club has them. Not denying that.

But it seems as though its more Crow fans don't like the general animosity of Port fans. I am attempting to point out that thats just how a lot of us are when were at the footy. We dont want to hurt you or cause you harm, we just want to wind you up a a bit as thats what were used to.

How many of the people not going have actually been physically attacked without cause? How many have been unduly verbally abused? (not including footy banter)

they lost me at spitting on children......never again !

oh - and the spitter appeared to have most of the characteristics of a woman

I tend to get along really well with the port supporters around me at port-hosted showdowns, and I'm not one to be quiet at games either, although I'm more the type of supporter who encourages his own team, rather than bags the opposition. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be a friendly atmosphere just because we're rivals.
I do make an effort to have a chat to those around me before and during the game, which I expect helps. It also probably helps that I'm big and tall, but at the same time very friendly looking (apparently). The one time a port supporter did have a go at me, some other port supporters actually got stuck into him about it haha. Perhaps some of you should come sit with me and my old man?
