Hey guys, long time reader first time poster, being on school holidays and having a bit of spare time on my hands, i thought id do a preview of this weeks game.

Head to Head
- Played 226, Carlton 117 Essendon 105 Draws 4

Last 5 Games - Carlton 2, Essendon 2, Draws 1

Last Week
What went right

  • Waite on Reiwoldt, to keep him goaless until the 10 minute mark of the final term is a huge effort.
  • The games from youngsters Pffifer, Gibbs, Murphy and Russel.
  • Bannister on Dal Santo, although dal had 21 touches i thought Bannister did a good job shutting him down.
What Went wrong

  • Our inability to play four quarters
  • Our footskills
  • Our decision making
Ins/Outs
IN: Kreuzer, Armfield and Jamison
OUT: Betts, Edwards and Bower

There the changes i'd be making this week, with Krezuer and Armfield making their debuts for the blues and Jamison returning from injury. Eddie Betts need a wake up call, he does some amazing things but he finds the simple stuff incredibly hard. Bower and Edwards omitted for team balance.

Matchups
FF: Fisher Fevola Krezuer
essendoncarlton.htm

FB: Nash Michael Fletcher

HF: Murphy Wait Houlihan
HB: Winderlich, Ryder, Ramanauskas

C: Scotland Hadley Gibbs
C: Houli Watson Dyson

HB: Simpson Bannister Jamison
HF: Lovett McPhee Welsh

FB: Hille Lloyd Davey
FF: Thornton O'Halpin Armfield

Forward Line

  • Houlihan must play forward, in my opinion he should play they for the rest of the year, his finishing skills and polish is something we lack, and he is much more damaging as a forward than as a rebound defender.
  • Waite should also play forward, without Lucas Essendon are a tall short down forward, so there is really no need to play Waite in defence. He provides an option across half forward, and will also help out Fevola.
Midfield

  • Rotate Cloke, Hampson and Kreuzer through the ruck, forward and bench. (Want Krezuer to spend limited time in the ruck because he is a young developing body)
  • Not sure on Hadley's fitness but if he plays i hope he runs with Watson. Could hurt him on the rebound.
  • We back our other mid's to beat their direct opponents.
Backline

  • Irish starts on Lloyd and Thorton is our "Plan B"
  • Simpson plays more of a stopper role this week on Lovett
  • Bannister runs with McPhee, for the entire night, regardless of where he lines up.

The game for me, will be one and lost in the midfield, Essendons pace is an asspect of their game where we could get caught out. The easiest way to counterattack this is by winning the clearances and the contested footy hopefully Juddy and Stevo are playing well and the other more experienced guys have better games. (Carrazzo, Simpson, Scotland)

Blues by 27.

Nice write up:thumbsu:.

I'm not sure about Thornton playing on Lloyd, even if it is as a back-up. I think Lloyd will over power him easily, and Thornton's much better at taking on the smaller attackers.

Setanta and Jamison to pick up Lloyd:thumbsu:.

did you watch the game last week?

betts was the only forward who presented himself, and bower played he's best game for the blues.

please if anyone deserves to get dropped it is carazzo

....
IN: Kreuzer, Armfield and Jamison
OUT: Betts, Edwards and Bower

There the changes i'd be ...

Those outs are wrong IMO. No way should ANY of those 3 be dropped. Eddie was good last week. Jake was good considering the limited opportunities he had. Bower was fine.

IN: Kruezer, Jamo, Browne
OUT: Hadley (Injured), Bannister, Russell

I'd put Thornton on Lloyd. Setanta to take on the resting ruck - i.e. Hill or Laycock, and Jamo to take on an Essendon pseudo-KP-forward e.g. Johns or McPhee. I was extremely disappointed with Carazzo last week, and he needs to be put on notice. I rate the player highly, but his lack of intensity, and shocking disposal was not acceptable. I'd put Waite at CHF for this game - that would really stretch the Dons backline. :)

Although betts was good up the ground, its not his job to present himself as a lead up option outside 50. His job is to crumb and finish and apart from his freak goal when the game was done and dusted, he just doesnt do enough inside 50 for mine.

Based on last week's performances none of Bannister, Betts, Bower or Edwards deserve to be dropped.

If it is based on performance then Carazzo and Stevens are the ones who deserve to be dropped, but most likely we 'can't afford' not to have them in the side.

And for those saying Bannister and Russell should be dropped, who will be our run with players?!?!

If fit, Bentick should definitely come in for Hadley if injured.

Kreuze we know is coming in which means if Waite is to play forward there is definitely no room for Edwards in the forward line, unless Fish is played on a wing?

Its a tough one this week because our generally reliable senior players were the ones who didn't seem to put in enough last week...less than an hour to go until we know for sure tho...

?????????????
Don't agree. We have a wealth of height so I guess thats why no Irish.

Essenscum have buggar all talls, we will win this one!!!!

I think he did a reasonable job on Del Santo last week, without getting heaps of the ball.

I'd expect him to have a go at shutting down one of their mids, maybe Watson or Stanton.
