It’s too early to trade him if that’s what you’re thinking.

I'm considering flicking him for Preuss if he does well via some DPP magic if English gets suspended and Hayes is out to avoid a 0. Otherwise I will hold.

Though that 20 in his rotation means he wont make any serious cash for another 3 weeks. Longer if he gets dropped which I imagine he is almost certain too.

it’s never too early to offload a potato. sometimes you’ve just got to admit you made a mistake and move on.

One bad game coming off the back of 2 very good games... he isn't a certainty to get dropped.

Nearly every sydney fan has him as an out for next week. I know they aren't longmire but still doesnt bode well. Losing sides normally drop players and he was the worst in a poor performance.

Why is bowey now an 80 average footballer

One game - that doesn't count towards his average for you of any decency

Rest - well....

Clearly he's not, based on his 61 point average over his first 8 games.
However, I would make the point that you can't dismiss his 151 simply because those trading him in won't get those points. He still managed that monster score and played well enough to warrant it, so the fact that he's shown himself capable of doing that must be taken into account when judging his future scoring ability.

I think what it comes down to is what your overall opinion of Bowey is. Was last week just a flash in the pan that will see him revert to a 60 point average, or was it a young player destined to be a top SC scorer showing his first signs of a breakout. If you believe it's the former you shouldn't trade him in, but if you believe it's the latter you need to get him.

I'll be getting him in for sure. I've seen him play in a couple of matches at a lower level where he's performed similarly to last week and now he's shown he can do it at AFL level there's a good chance he'll carry on. Of course he won't be scoring like last week too often, but regular good scores could well follow. He's also not far above rookie price and is due to get the 8th highest price rise in the comp. Two of those above him are Neale and Cripps and the other 5 are rookies most people would already have. At his price even a modest rise from his old 61 point average would make him a decent cash cow and he could do so much better. The risk:reward ratio seems very much in his favour.

I actually had him in my team most of the preseason in anticipation of some kind of breakout, but was eventually scared off by that 60 point average and switched to Hewett. No regrets there, but getting him back now as a virtual rookie correction seems sensible.

Already traded Hough to Stephens

Only 5k in the kitty, 34 trades remain and ranked ~7k

I think realistically it is probably a hold from here. Missed the boat on English, need to hope Gawn can return to SP status asap.

I don't like any of the options I can afford for Whitfield either.

Berry to Brodie if named?

Berry to Davies (GC) and Whitfield to Hall. Seems a bit trading for the sake of it.

Opinions welcome kents

Stef won't play unless English gets injured
This is true. I included English after hearing Beverage preseason saying that English would be their full time number one ruckman this season and I decided to actually believe a coach. Risky I know, but so far Beverage has been true to his word and he repeated that statement again just this week. English's performance would have cemented his position now too.

can Freo afford to carry a bloke that can barely play half a game? you’d have to think he’s likely to throw up a few stinkers because of it too.
Brodie is their 3rd best midfielder at the moment (arguably 2nd, Serong not doing much in rds 1 and 2). Even him playing 50% TOG would be better than playing 1st years for ~70% TOG. Lots of 1st years get sub 70% TOG anyway.

averaging 24 touches and 6 tackles in 63% TOG, impressive.

I'm hoping at some stage he gets to 70-75% TOG to cement a 90ish average for 6 weeks.
I just can't see Xerri getting many HTA in the near future.
For disclosure, I started both this year.

Considered a few trades this week but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Want to back my boys in to get the job done. Probbaly need to get another mid playing on the bench, glad i avoided Stephens!

One trade option was
darcy- english
berry-cripps

The other was
Berry-Xerri via Brodie
Owens-Stephens

Could be a painful weekend if Berry stinks it up and Cripps goes big as well.

You've made me second guess now....argh...
SteveB cited some scores of backlines against the suns in the first two rounds where the backmen scored big against the suns, this was one of my reasons for not selecting him thinking it was an anomally. What have you seen that makes you so sure? Disposal efficiency or ???

I was going to go Whitfield to Hall and that would leave me with 220k odd which also includes two other trades, but if I changed that to Bowey it would give me a warchest of 531k and as Hall won't go up in value too much I could then bring him in next week or later...

With Preuss securing the lone ruckman position I'm going with the following trades.

Whitfield > Bowie
Soligo > Brayshaw (Freo)
Dixon > Preuss

Whitfield:
1 game in his last 6 above 83 (Ave 85)
3 games in his last 11 above 87 (Ave 87)
With a supposedly uninterrupted preseason which was expected to see a return to form, but still an average of 71 this season he simply can't be persevered with.

No trades yet.
Me and PaddyMac need to have a discussion about his second halves. He's going alright, but they really suck.

Hope they suspend that big buffont weirdo. Deserves a week. Watch them throw away all the shit reasons they have used to suspend players before...like choosing to bump rther than tackle, and head high contact is instant time off.

Yeah, i didnt buy him

I'll tell you something.

Trades don't have feelings.

You don't cuddle them 😜🤠:moustache:.

Best i've been able to come up with is

Whitfield -> Bowie
Berry -> Cripps
Ward -> Xerri

But now I'm starting to wonder about doing no trades. Seems like the ultimate risky play to just let all of Cripps, Hewitt and Xerri just sale on by. Dixon is my only player not playing (assuming Hayes and Brodie play).

I wonder how bad injuries and covid needs to be for a no-trader this week to pay off long-term.

The main thing that sticks in my mind is the first practice match in the 2021 preseason. Most of the top players were missing but he roved across the half back line picking up possessions at will. If they'd given SC scores for the match his would have been massive. But what I like most about him is right from his first match he's shown a great awareness of what's around him and that allows him to dispose of the ball very quickly and almost always to advantage. Given the right role he's going to be a great SC scorer. The question is whether this is the year it happens or if we have to wait a bit longer.

edit: Just on his DE, he's played 9 games and in 7 of his games his DE has been 80%+. Strangely last week was one of his sub 80% games. Included in that are 2 games where he went 90%+ and 2 games where it was 88%.
