I love the faux outrage every week from the same people who have it explained to them in plain English each week that Big Boy can’t really play full ruck, and the club don’t want him too. There is no forward we have that can really do close to 50% ruck unless we are desperate. As long as BB is captain and good enough, then we need a second ruckman to support him. That’s that.

If we’re compromising a more effective forwardline to accomodate a second ruck simply because our first ruck can’t ruck then something has gone horribly wrong.

Of course I have to acknowledge the issue with my comment is that we don’t know if bringing in another forward in place of Ceglar would end up being better. But I do know Ceglar really can’t afford to have minimal forward impact or marking presence. He’s been disappointing so far.

Most have said they're happy for TOB to play 2nd ruck. In fact, I'm happier with him up the ground for large patches of the game.
You've got to staunchly defend everything though, whilst missing the point of those they are complaining about. It's a mad spiral of irony.

Ceglar has to be a late out.

Playing an ‘experienced’ 27 year old key forward who’s been on our list for over 8 years, averaging .7 of a goal in that time, in the early stages of a complete rebuild when we should be getting games into our youth. Just maybe it’s a really stupid and short-sighted selection decision.
Spot on .....

If Freo are playing all of Treacy, Darcy, Meek and Tabaner that I don't have a problem with Hartleys inclusion. Sturt plays tall as well.

If we struggle to kick goals again we could see Jeka in next weekend before a Kosi reprieve.

Does the 0.7 goals per game include those games O'Brien played in defence or just the games he has played as a forward? I get that he's just a role player rather than the star we hope he could be but he at least seems to have a crack and get to a heap of contests.

Conversely, 0.7 from a change ruckman would have me over the moon.

It's all I ever wanted from Vickery. Sadly that turned out to be wildly optimistic!

The whole concept of a change ruckman is an exercise in compromise. Trying to balance what you lose in general ruckmanshipery versus around the ground versus what they do when they're not in the ruck (typically most of the time).
Playing a specialist favours the ruckmanshipery side of the argument. And mitigates your primary ruckman doing less time in the position, which is allegedly what we're dealing with.
In my opinion though, with each passing year general ruckmanshipery is becoming less and less important.

But if Clarko disagrees with that, then it's probably me that's wrong. I haven't seen enough otherwise this season to push me off the opinion though. Yet anyway.

Couldn’t agree more, the joys of reading about tanking and draft
Must be Hartley for Hartigan
or Jesus for h
Yes the selected side doesn’t make much sense to me
yep cos we always line up as selected, since about 1979.

I am still working through my own trauma with my shrink. And that trauma is my last shrink. I told him in that the morning I was a wigwam, and in the afternoon I was a teepee. He told me I needed to relax more because I was two tents.

If theres a good chance of decent rain why are both teams going tall?, we are bagging Clarko but Longmuir equally doesnt seem to be reading the tea leaves either. It may be his best structure on paper but it doesnt suit the weather conditions. Clarko is just merely structuring the side to match that and assuming its going to be a bit of a slog regardless. Dont have an issue with it TBH they are not quicker over the ground with their smalls really.

Just quietly, results today are in our favor, Freo is a must win game lads! I hope they come out primed for a big effort.
