Allen had a crappy game but geez it’s a hard gig being a forward when you cop delivery like that.

Not one forward entry for him to lead up to or into space. Nothing but long bombs which gave Freo plenty of time to grope him and add an extra number to the contest.

I think Longmuir is a shit coach but he negated Allen and McGovern all day and due to our inability to get our hands on the ball cleanly at the centre bounce and our continual bomb it long approach out of a contest we made their jobs pretty easy and Govs and Allen’s jobs pretty ****ing hard.

I'll grant that he's the exception that proves the rule, but you can't build a premiership team around players with questionable skills and decision making.

He is a career home and away season player, a professional athlete, a good club man, an honest battler, a red herring.Whatever you want to call it.

Sure sometimes he plays with a lot of heart and sometimes he's a net positive despite his mistakes. But skill errors and brain fades will always be a part of his game, we've seen that now over the 100 plus games he's played.

He's always going to be costly, and when it actually matters [ie when we're a team who isn't contending for second last] that stuff actually matters. Our team is full of player like this, and people who defend them.

Having Cole in our best 22 for the remainder of his career does nothing except stop us from finding a small defender who can do all the things Cole does well, PLUS not make several inexplicably poor things per game and leak goals like nobodies business.

We have only recently added Ginbey and Maric to our backline, and Cole is still doing his job. Maric probably isnt defending that incredibly well just yet, wouldnt mind seeing Allan in there very soon.

Id like to think hes been replaced by next year in the d50, ideally thats to the WAFL than to another club via FA

He hasnt done enough to be dropped but hes not locked in the side imo

Kelly to play Noah Longs role (high half forward?). If he still plays like a wet sack there then he's of no more use to the team.

Next in the firing line is Cripps or Owies, with Baker moving into the pressure forward role. Bo Allan to HBF.

If you can't drop him after a 14 disposal game vs Fold Coast, what about an 18 disposal effort in a huge Derby with our backs to the wall and us desperate for a midfielder to actually look dangerous with the footy?

It's a joke he's still in the team. We know what he provides. We've seen his lack of heart and effort over and over again. Why is he still playing? Afraid we might lose if he's not in the side?

Lots of change please, release Harley away from the midfield for a bit, he’s not fit or mature enough yet. I think he’s finding the extra attention tough and having had a poor preseason the lesson has been learnt. We need to get him into the game and find some form and confidence, the easiest way for him will be across half back.

Have a fresh look at some options including Hall and Hewett in the midfield mix.

Debut all of Gross, Greggo, Allan and Brock and see what they have got at AFL level.

Ruck with J Williams and A Reid.

If Waterman isn’t ready then guess what? Bring in another debutant in Shanahan. Play the kids!!!

Dare I say McQualter might have been a bit naive. He probably thought it was Simmo and the game plan, and Simmo's messaging had fallen flat.

McQualiter probably expected to come in, make some changes and get a better result from bringing in a few older guys than what he has gotten.

He would've expected more from his senior players, like Oscar and Kelly, that's for sure.

He's probably scratching his head a bit because as much as it sucks to hear, there's no quick fix here.

No injury, Mini confirmed that they just wanted to try something different.

They even tried Harley on the HBF, keep playing him there for a while, it worked with Sheezel and Daicos.
No ones going to tag a half back flanker.

Need to get footy into Brock and work out if he can offer some form of cover for Gov or a better option than Harry Edwards. Good chance to do that.

Hall has a limited scope but a good like for like swap with Graham.

Jack Williams is victim to Archer Reid working his way into a more effective outing, despite the fact that he is a liability in front of goals. Waterman just needs to come back in as soon as possible.

Flynn-Bailey - ahhh as someone suggested, it’s deck chairs on the Titanic stuff but maybe he can offer some/any insight into his old mob? He took up a list spot for over 5 years after all.

aaaand Long has offered nothing, needs to find some touch in the WAFL - this could have easily been his fellow ‘Small Forward who doesn’t kick goals or win the ball’ Guy in Brockman, but at least Tyler snagged a goal.

Gross can find the ball - we need more guys playing that have that ability.

• Duggan's not working in the midfield, send him back to defence where's he's always been solid.
• Allen to replace an injured Gov if Watermans available, otherwise he' could do with being managed a week to freshen up (and brock can play).
• Harley to play mostly HF with some CBA's as his tanks not up for midfield atm.
• Hall reinstated as shouldn't have been dropped.
• Too many underperforming small forwards need to be replaced to give some kids a shot.

The difference is Reid looks interested.

Archer Reid’s two goals came from two quick entries into the forward line from a player taking a shot on goal. One from a turnover in the middle and another from a centre clearance.

Both times he was one out in the goal square.

One floated perfectly over his opponents head when he had back position and the other dropped infront of him when he had front position.

Again quick entries in a one on one situation in the goal square where he had optimal position.

Allen didn’t have a great game here but let’s not go overboard comparing a 3rd gamer who nobody was double teaming with two good entires to our main spearhead with two blokes hanging off him for most of the game, rubbish entries and a clear gameplan to do so. Happy to be proven wrong if you can show me a similar contest where Allen fluffed it.
