McQualters next player meeting.

"Righto boys, forget everything I told ya so far. This week, get it through the big sticks.
Ginners, when exiting from the D50, all eyes on the big sticks, forget everything else. Big sticks!
Bailey, I know you are toughing it out at the centre bounces, but maybe try the LaRurrso special Crain Kick and boot the ball through the big sticks from the centre bounce.
Riedy, give the bloke in the third row the double birds as you go through the big sticks.

Let's go boys!"

Presumably it's a personnel issue as much as tactical; not sure how Long and Owies would ever be able go with Ash and Whitfield for sustained periods, especially with the scrambled sub-par entries coming in priming them for re-bound. (Also begs the question why Owies was such a desirable target for us.)

But hell, I've been pleading for us to target front half ground ball dominant pressure players for years. It's why I was so keen on Hannaford with our first pick. And then, guess who, it's GWS who target him.

Read on the Brisbane game? (assuming you were there live).

Completely agree. I have long been a believer that elite pace should be a non-negotiable when it comes to non-key forwards. Just the inferred pressure alone it creates for opponents, knowing that if they dare to run with the ball, there is someone around who is faster and can potentially chase them down - it changes their behaviour before the play even commences.

Still of the opinion that the club should try to setup a partnership with US colleges as a new category B rookie pathway.

There's a ridiculous number of athletes over there consistently putting up sub-21 200m, sub-46 400m or sub-3:40 1500m times who will never progress in athletics because the field of competition is so great. If any of those could learn how to kick a football, then that becomes a potential level of pressure application that has never been seen before.

I've still got a long list of notes from the Brisbane game that are yet to be posted, and have been sitting in my growing list of posts that were started, but not finished. I was actually quite impressed at the game with the team's defensive organisation behind the ball - creating a spare and using the outnumber to setup counterattacking play before the defensive phase had even ended, which caught Brisbane out several times. The Lions also played very narrow, which helped West Coast maintain numbers around contests rather than chasing the spread.

The fact Archer Reid won contested marks against top quality defenders in only his second year bodes well for our KPF stocks.

Add in the ultimate swingman marking machine in Shanahan and I have no concerns about letting Oscar go.

Also appreciated Gross and Hall. Definately am a bit of a Hall fan and could become a very good player.

We had 40 1%'ers as a team. He had 10 of them (25%).

Imagine the destruction he'd wreak if we actually had some pressure in the midfield and a competent defence around him, he could just wreck every attack.

EDIT: Reminds me a lot of Beau Waters, not exact style, but just the unit who destroys teams.
He's better than Beau Waters already.

On the afl tracker on the app, if you look at average speed in attack its all eagles, average speed in defense its all giants

But a corner certainly appears to have been turned in terms of squad output. Increasingly, performance is being led by the youth of the side rather than the leadership, which obviously leads to serious questions about the relevance and future of those older players - if they are not providing leadership, then all they are effectively doing is preventing another young player from getting a chance to develop.

Because, with the desperate state the club is in, there are at least some of positives to see in the kids.
This is it. I think a few posters (including myself) have been on about this for 12 months or longer.
At this stage the older players have to provide some leadership through; communication/teaching, work ethic or resilience. Hunt, Baker, Graham, Cripps, Kelly, McGovern, Yeo, Allen, Waterman, Cole, Ryan & Duggan need to be viewed through that as to their continued selection in the side.
There are some senior players we've been playing over the younger players who I'd argue don't provide any of the above and are a net negative to a rejuvenated young side.

I felt there were massive positives yesterday from the younger players. Some end to end movement that lead to scores.

JWilliams is a set and forget guy. When he moved into the middle yesterday he got involved. He wants the ball and does something with it. Also did a nice side step through traffic yesterday for big guy that supposedly doesn't have much agility. He's quick in the brain and that makes up for slower movement.

I like Hall. Yes, limited but can do his role. Most importantly has intent. Intent to get to the ball first and if he cant get it then intent to tackle hard. We are sorely lacking this from leaders. It's why a fit Yeo makes a big deal to this team. I think he will get better at the game outside of the contest. IMO that's a knowing when to split from the contest and work rate thing that can be taught/worked on. If not it will be abundantly clear to people monitoring him that it isn't improving and should be moved on.

Brock was on a hiding to nothing yesterday knowing the supply Hogan would get. KPD is a learn on the job role and its why so many of them start out looking like they won't make it. Has good skills by the look of it which is good.

Gross good debut. Has intent.

I liked parts of Brockman's game. Did some very nice pick ups and showed some toe and agility. Hopefully building.

This is pretty juvenile really. Do I retaliate by implying you're McQualter's benny if you defend him when we're sitting 0-10 after 6 more games? The idea that Sumich would waste his time on here dealing with the sort of idiotic commentary you're dishing up is laughable.
You should listen to Sumich and Hardie on the radio, I've only done so by accident, and it doesn't take much to see why they both have gigs on community radio.

As Suma would say, "I'm tellin' ya".

We tried hard but ultimately still lost by 81. GWS had 32 shots for goal and it felt like they kicked all their goals in a hurry.

17 min mark of Q1 to 6 min mark of Q2: 7 goals. 3QT siren to 19 min mark of Q4: 7 goals. So that's about 35 min or so of game time for 14 of 20 goals. From the 6 min mark of Q2 to 3QT the margin didn't change which is a positive but for the fact we had already given up a 50 point lead.

Interesting to see some heat on Duggan which I think is fair enough. His lack of chase on Jones in the first two minutes was highlighted last night but also at one point Allen made a lead up the ground which Duggan ignored then he kicked on his head when it was a 3 on 1. You could see Oscar was fuming. Everyone likes Duggo but for a captain he is comfortably the worst player in the comp. Thought Oscar tried hard but despite inside 50s being relatively even our forwards didn't get much good supply.

Don't hate Harley Reid playing at half back but he needs to be running off back, not getting lost inside defensive 50. A few times he got the chance to run off half back and create he looked good. A couple of one-two handballs he had through the middle you can see how much better he is than the rest of our mids. Handballs were sharp and direct to teammates, and he doesn't panic and will brace for contact or release the ball at just the right moment.

The debutants all showed a bit. Liked Gross taking the game on and getting caught HTB about 60 out from goal. He is a first gamer not adjusted to the pace of AFL footy but still trying to create. Then later on said **** I'll do it myself and banged a long goal. Other players in our team would just panic and hack a 30m kick forward for another turnover.

Hopefully the whole team watches the tape and focuses on what GWS do. Ball movement is elite and 10-12 players are in on the 'tsunami'. It's only really the key posts that stay home. They score a bazillion points from turnover but also recognise the importance of not turning the ball over with skill errors and getting back to defence when they don't have the ball.

I'd expect the Harley to half-back was just a move so he could get the ball in his hands and find some form after a lacklustre start to the season, may go for a few more rounds but highly unlikely it's long term.

I remember when people on here were saying this, but i don't remember it ever being a real thing that happenend

It was only Phil that said it, and to be fair to him he did also say that he wouldn't be surprised if it's something Ginbey would improve on given his drive and high training standards.
