Pros:
  • Ginbey our best player so far this season
  • Reid gathering some steam now after a slower start to the year
  • Hall 3rd best overall on ground contested possessions and 1st in Bris game. Absolutely have to keep playing him. He’s young, but improved and we need players to winning it inside and shovelling it out
  • Gross, I mean we knew but the kid just has it
  • Maric gets things moving and 558 metres gained. Is following instructions and providing drive out of the backline.
  • JWill better than Allen
  • Brock far better as a tall when linking up out of defence and not being stagnant which will help our ball movement and counterattack more than previous plodding around from our key backs
  • Competed better in the middle overall and differentials tightened with regards to contested ball & i50s. The way we use the ball and go inside though is nowhere near the required standard at the moment

Cons
  • We still got belted, which I knew was coming. GWS are no joke
  • How shit is Oscar Allen?
  • We have a million small forwards, all playing pretty bad right now. Malakai a chance to come in and do a Dudley. Liam Ryan’s very strong start to the year and the class drop when he is out is stark
  • Poor Brock copping GWS and Hogan for a baptism of fire
agree with all your assessment
feel the heap of small forwards should be replaced with players who want to chase, Long, Owies, Brockman would be the 1st out and Hutch looks maybe back this week so could actually roll lots of young kids through the fwd line who want to attack the footy, Petch should get rewarded.
Ryan will be back so probably any who performed against GWS should be 1st picked, could do worse than the forward smalls being a combination of Ryan, Johnstone, Gross, Davis and Petch.

Sumich is a great development and assistant coach. He really is great at developing youth and getting players involved and on the same page.

He is however not an AFL senior coach. He just doesn't have the ability to run the show particularly the off field side of things, media, public speaking and he's now too old school with his motivational techniques.

Lol “motivational techniques”

You should listen to Sumich and Hardie on the radio, I've only done so by accident, and it doesn't take much to see why they both have gigs on community radio.

As Suma would say, "I'm tellin' ya".

If I'm running around in the car on a Saturday I'll generally chuck on 6PR to catch some footy scores and news. Hardie and Jakovich are absolute dinosaurs - who just like Suma - say that a team needs to fix something but offer shallow analysis and ways to fix said problems.

Hardie in particular has had an axe to grind against the Eagles since I was a kid listening to him with the old man whilst driving around on weekends. He hated Malthouse for some personal beef going back to the Footscray days when he got benched for being a fat plodder and has never let it go. Even on Sunday during the half-time break he was talking about how Suma should go down to the Eagles to sort things out then had a little chortle about how that won't be happening.

They're out of touch but still love taking pot shots and believe what they say in their own little world.

All the while, the hard work of dealing with the ossified parts has been left for a novel coach to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Surprisingly I haven’t seen any media criticism of him at all. The Comms team were singing his praises and pointing out that he had an equal match high 9 intercepts

His spoiling needs work, no doubt about that, but that’s something that can be coached and will come with time in the role.

There’s plenty to work with there.

I think a lot of backs would have a hard time spoiling most of his marks. A lot of the delivery to him was absolutely elite.

Breau couldn't hit a barn with his good foot.
Don't get me wrong, Ginbey could end up being a 300 game premiership captain but at the moment he has just started his 3rd year so we just need to pull the brakes a little when comparing to past players.
It's easy to forget how good some players were 15+ years ago.

Hehehe both against GWS too.

Pity that's about where Brayden peaked unfortunately. Imagine if we didn't slim him down to be a beatnik and instead let him ply his trade as in inside midfielder.
How’s the logic of taking an inside ball winning midfielder with terrible foot skills and trying to turn him into an outside mid that relies on good foot skills?

That’s our development team to a tee. 😂

Hardie in particular has had an axe to grind against the Eagles since .....
Forever.

I'm reasonably sure it's because he thought he was a shoo-in for being recruited back to the Eagles in 1987, and, well wasn't and ended up at the Bad News Bears which in that era was basically an admission you were washed up.

He's never forgiven anyone for that perceived insult.

Sounds completely feasible.

There's a story on here from a poster I cannot remember that reckons they won 2 tickets to a game in Victoria off 6PR and they had to meet Hardie to collect the tickets. They said that he pulled up to the curb in a shitty old rust bucket and handed the tickets out the window, the guy then asked Hardie who was going to win out of X and Y to which Hardie replied "Put your house on Y!" Before driving off. Of course X won.

I then like to imagine my own little ending to the story where Brad's car backfires and conks out 10m up the road and he has to ask the guy that won the tickets to help him push start it.

Mate the job is obviously way too big for McQualter. Playing Oscar Allen as a tagger on Sam Taylor FFS. Sumich would never try that rubbish.
Mini handles the press very well, but there is far more management behind the scenes. As for tag, giving a bloke averaging one kick a task (not tag) on an elite play generator is fair and helped him show his worth. Oscar could have presented more but he tried I felt.
