Pretty much a midfield masterclass today - that was somewhat undermined by an uncharacteristically poor defensive effort.

McCluggage was a machine today and I think is flying under the radar. He has been consistently awesome this season. In terms of AFL player ratings, that was apparently Ashcroft's second best ever match!

(Blatant self promotion: I write up my own post match analysis here if anyone fancies a long read from a fan. https://roar-metrics.ghost.io/2025-roundlions/)

we did what was necessary to win. Happy we got out to a good lead and could just play out the final quarter without too much effort. They looked like they were out on their feet, or in preservation mode - which is fair considering the 3 tight games already this season.

Jasper was great, as were Ashcrofts and McLuggage. Good to see Bailey kick a few, and Charlie get some reward.
Sam Day competed well a took a couple of good marks in front of us. Currently a much better 2nd ruck option than Hippy, who didn’t know what he was doing in the couple of attempts he made.

4 games, 4 wins, not playing our best - but so much season ahead yo find our best form.

Was at the Game...never looked like losing, played good footy for 3 qtrs. Yes we definitely put the cue in the rack, which was slightly disappointing. But think the tough conditions the last month played a little part in that. The one thing I think is concerning was the 5 goals they got in RED time. 4 - 0 baby go you good things..MIGHTY LIONS.

At this point I trust that our coaches will know of the players need a kick up the arse or not.

Getting out to a [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] point lead with five minute left in the third quarter is more than satisfactory in my book anyway. We don’t have anything to prove running ourselves dead in round four being [emoji640]-[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]].

Worst part of all this is going to be the inevitable media beat up when if we lose next week.

Actually being at the ground it was bewildering to see the umpires completely stuff up the 15 metre calls. There were two kicks in front of us that were at least 20 metres long that were called not 15, one of them by Zorko from memory, and then two Richmond kicks of about 10 metres were awarded marks. The inconsistency is unbelievable. None of the players seem to have any idea what the umpires are going to call, so in a lot of cases they play on just in case which results in rushed disposals and turnovers. Surely it can’t be that hard to show some consistency.

Fort (yes please) or Smith, Day is a witches hat.
I was at the game today and Day seems scared to have a shot. He did a couple of ok things around the ground, but today was his chance to score a few, having missed out against West Coast too. These bottom teams don’t come along every week.

By way of comparison, Jeff Hogg scored 11 goals in his first 4 games at Fitzroy and had 18 goals after his 7th game, when he was recruited to replace Alastair Lynch.

Anyway, a win is a win is a win and we got out injury free, it seems.

Went to see the Sex Pistols at Festival Hall after the game. Very good gig. Massive sing along.

Though i thought Bailey was lucky to get paid a mark in front of the sticks after the mid air hack from Will Ashcroft, i would need to see a tape measure be convinced that had gone 15😃.

Overall I thought we did ok from the Umps, the tigers youthful enthusiasm caught them out in a few places and kicks were paid.

4-0. No injuries.
Doedee and Gardiner back in 2s.
Coleman back in few weeks.

Bailey doing a good job covering for Lohmann and getting us those goals. Midfielders kicking their fair share helps too, easing the workload on our forward line minus Daniher.

We're going ok, just quietly. The most pleasing thing is we're winning based on a system and game plan rather than someone kicking 5-6 goals every week. It's far more sustainable come finals time.

I was disappointed to see Morris grinning about missing that set shot. I hope he got a spray from the coach.

Why? He shanked it and that happens sometimes. Fagan would tell him to forget it and move on and he seemed to do that straight away. He was beating himself up last year after missing shots and missed one from the goal square.

Would have Jaspa top 5 in the BnF in the first month of the season. Was unreal today. Said last week we can’t move him back to the wing to accomodate Kiddy’s return and if he keeps playing like today hopefully the coaches stand by that too.
I would like to try Kiddy on the wing as his kicking is so good

Can’t imagine people thinking he was the biggest issue. And I think we should give Henry smith a run very soon!
I saw the reserves and Smith played well in a losing team. He was poor two weeks earlier at Springfield Central when he didn't go hard enough in the ruck contests but some have said he is still recovering from a shoulder problem. At Springfield Central he reminded me of Daniher when Daniher was protecting his shoulder.
With Fort being a reserve for the seniors it meant much more ruck time for Smith, something that must happen in the future, even when Fort can play a full game.
Another good game and Smith comes in.

Felt like a penny drop game for Smith. He's ready.

Fagan will be 80 percent pleased with that game. There were periods were our pressure rating was very high. He will have to look at our fitness as we gave away plenty in red time. Fourth quarter was a write off, again maybe something from a fitness perspective to look at. Charlie kicked three. Our midfield has lifted its goal kicking to make up for Daniher. Day has been getting up and down the ground to help in defence. Hipwood got on the board and Morris is above expectations. We really left some goals off the board due to terrible F50 entries but we also looked to make use of players like Ah Chee and Bailey and Bags who all contributed well. Overall 7 out of 10 game. B rated performance. Move on. We got 17 odd weeks to hit that S tier form before finals.

No one should be compared to Hogg.

I had lots of illegal recordings of the Sex Pistols. Sold them all years ago.
