Seems like he went well too with 13 disposals 4 tackles and kicked 1.2 in a half of football in a side that got pumped.

This game should be entertaining. I think the low expectations for us, and the high expectations on them will lead to either a competitive game, or we will have flood gates opened on us and it will be a smashing.

THe main reason we will be competitive is we have a tall backline capable of locking down the key forwards. Pearce will get Kennedy, Hamling will take Darling, and Ryan will most likely take Allan and play the intercept role. This leaves their smalls rotating through which is where we will be in trouble. Ryan, Cripps etc.

Our midfield looks quite average against theirs, so breaking even here would be a massive plus. Our forward line is a bigger strength than it has been in years, so if we have better disposal efficiency into the forward 50 then that is the key. We need to isolate McGovern and simply move the footy away from him. We will see in the opening quarter if we head in his direction. We almost need a decoy lead to take him one way, and then move the ball the other.

Verdict : West Coast are a mature team basically at full strength (as strong as they have been in 2 years). We are missing 3 key players in Blakely, Hill and Fyfe. We have nobody to cover these players, and that is where our team will simply struggle, because I can not see anyone stepping up here over 4 quarters against a quality outfit.

The only thing that gives me any hope, is how well we played against North, and how badly we played against Saints. We need to bring the same effort, but improve our skill level and minimise the clanger count.
If we do not put real sustained pressure on their midfield and backline all day it will be an absolute flogging as their mids and forwards will cut us apart.

Hard to find a place for Giro or Crowden. They are simply too small, especially with Fyfe out.

I would bring North in for Fyfe. Also wouldn't mind giving Nyhuis a crack at Ryan/Cripps.

As much as i want him in the side asap I'd give Switta another week at Peel, he only played 3 qtrs last week and I'm paranoid the lack of match fitneess could contribute to a re-injury. His hammies concern me. I think we'll go with the one change, one of North/Crowden/someone else for Fyfe.

Nyhuis -> Hughes
Switta -> Banfield

If neccesary:
Banfield -> Fyfe
I’d go something like that
Nyhuis> Hughes
Switta (or Crowden if not fit)> Fyfe/Banfield
(Banfield to midfield)

Banfield and Brayshaw would want to lift with Fyfe a likely in for round 5

Would you prefer him to do his hammy at Peel or at Freo? We have a good record of acquiring them from either. If he is even close to 100% I'd bring him straight in. Push Banfield to midfield, Switta takes his forward role. Allows us to keep Walters playing mid a lot which we will need to be competitive.

I would have to agree.

IMO the changes this week are pretty clear, unfortunately they may not be so clear in the selection committees eyes.

Nyhuis -> Hughes
Switta -> Banfield

If neccesary:
Banfield -> Fyfe
To quote you. 'Oh dear'. Cant see Swita coming back before he gets a whole game under his belt. Hughes is needed with Nyhuis in defence or West Coast will kill us with pace in their forward line. Conca into the midfield full time. Cerra spending more time midfield as well would allow the selection of Nyhuis. Id go Nyhuis in with North. Banfield and Fyfe out.

Id also go with Luke Ryan on either of Vardy or Hickey when they rest forward. We need to attack from defence and Luke has a terrific leap so I think it would work like Hurn playing on Zac Clarke has for West Coast in recent years.

While Darling is definitely better, his style of player is not that disimilar to Mason Wood who Hughes played on in Round 1 and completely dominated in my view. I cant see why it wouldnt be worth a risk early on in the game at least playing HUghes on Darling. WE need to take risks to even put ourselves with a chance of winning. Could yet be the making of Ethan giving him a big role this week.

They just reported Rockcliffe (Port) got concussion last sat (in 3rd qrt) and reckons he is right to play this sat...

All cases would be treated on their own merit, but will be interesting to see how Fyfe really pulled up. He has had a heavy concussion prior and he mentioned on fox footy that this was not as bad as that one. he did not rule himself in or out, but said he had some steps to get thru prior to doing the cog test. I'm sure if there is any doubt the medicos would not let him play regardless of whether he wants to or not.

They are crazy. Rockcliff didn’t fly home straight away because he was so out of it.

This game feels like we may as well forfeit but I really hope whoever we put out gives it everything and more to the point I hope we see some smart footy and not just effort.
Just some well worked forward entries and reward for effort would be a start.

The first game Fyfe missed last year everyone was thinking we were going to get smashed and we ended up knocking off Adelaide.

I'm not expecting us to win but if we take the game on like we've got nothing to lose I think we can do a lot better than most are expecting.

The way to beat West Coast is not to go defensive - stealing some key words from Marc Webb - I hope we are strong at the contest and with our pressure, keep structure ahead of the ball and attack quickly. They play a bruise free style, we need a lot of those Brayshaw tackles from the 4th quarter on Sunday.
