But sadly, that means next week, I will likely have to put up with Slime supporters in the Fyfe vs Yeo thread telling me that Yeo has won the chocolates in the last 4 Western derbies (NB: they have both played against each other in just one of the last 3 derbies. Yet in Feb, a Slime supporter stated Yeo had beaten Fyfe in the last 3 derbies, even though Fyfe was better than Yeo in their only game in the last 3 in 2018 R6).

tbh i always laugh when WCE supporters try and talk like Yeo is as good as Fyfe. Yeo is still the guy for me who got 5 possessions in a GF.

i'm still struggling to understand why he got a contract when he looked well below AFL standard when he played last year. And he is essentially already at his peak physically. Not sure what the upside is.

Relentless forward pressure, ala round 1 is the only thing that will see us through this. Speed, agility and playing on quickly at all costs. Otherwise we start kicking it to McGovern like he signed a 6 million year deal with us.

Gov will get more kicks playing against us than he ever could playing for us. He would still be doing his apprenticeship on the back flank if he was in purple.

But none of the options to bring in as a mid inspires me - so maybe despite being utterly shit Banfield stays in, moves into the midfield more, and either Schultz, Switta or Sturt play forward. And Tabs out?

The Ins aren’t going to really inspire anything. Agree with Switta, he comes in. Do something for Freo. Or worse at Peel. He’s a solid player, but injury wise he’s not going to stay on our list. What about Schulz.. reliable and has good defensive pressure

It’s about ultizing it to our advantage. Get each of them 1on1. Fast ball movement, just like at training. Draw Tabs out to wing and get Hogan/McCarthy one on one in the 50.

Talking last night to a pair of Docker Supporting work mates that having such an elite player like Fyfe is all well and good but leaves a massive hole if injured or suspended and can be insurmountable. We had it with Matera in the old days and for Years commentators have been saying without Nicnat we won't win anything. If the coaches plan it right they get the others to lift and cover the loss, will be interesting to see how this one pans out because I've been way more confident in the past going into derbies that we lost.

It’s not just Fyfe, it’s losing S. Hill and Blakely.
Have to Mundy to fall back on, and Conca. Cerra and Brayshaw will have to pull their weight.

If you had loss Shuey, and Gaff, Redden injured- you would be stuffed. Shuey’s your best mid, not Yeo. We’re decimated in the middle. Talking North and Crowden as back up. It’s not good

Exactly, the midfield looks like our biggest weakness right now which is why I hope Cerra gets a full time go in there this weekend. Think Clayton Oliver, or a certain Nat Fyfe who went into the midfield in their 2nd years and became young stars, Cerra is good enough, it's time. Release him!

Think so too. Lobb was great last week, granted he didn’t win the hitouts, but that’s overrated. The way he competed around the ground was great. Darcy is just lacking that match fitness, and is a liability around the ground. Not as great in the air with marking, and slow once it hits the ground. Tabs provides a lot better service then him. He can mark it and isn’t an easy pushover

Gaining ascendancy or at least breaking even at centre bounces looks like it's pretty critical in the 666 environment.

If ready to go, Darcy would be a no brainer for me.

I also think adding Switkowski (again with the confidence in fitness caveat) would help Freo pressure some crucial margins in Saturday's game. More pace in the forwards would be ideal.

Given how many times I hear or see that "hitouts are overrated" thing, I'm not sure who's overrating them.

You could look at them like disposals or even moreso like contested possessions for an individual player. How often did Neale or Fyfe win those stat counts last year only for the team to lose?

Ruck knocks are some of the most contested disposals in the game. Because of that they can be more open to disruption from the opposition. But by the same token they can also be one area that could provide more game winning edge, especially from the centre so far this year.
