Got to like these changes, even though I'd love for Darcy to play.

Banfield had to go, is clearly running with zero confidence at the moment.

This will keep Walters in the middle all game.

I imagine the midfield and midfield rotation becomes Cerra, Mundy, Walters, AB, Conca and Tucker

Yep and I expect Hutchings to go to Walters.

Land of the short people. Matera, Colyer, Switkowski, Walters, Schultz. Langdon and Hill are small. And one less KPP/Ruck than WC.

I would be tempted to use our tall forwards up the ground to take marks between the arcs, then dribble mongrels along the ground into the forward line.

It can work if we can get good separation with our tall forwards with the smalls swarming around at their feet. But if our talls do what they did last week and all lead into the same space McGovern etc will have an easy time of it.

Wow, didn't see that coming at all.

Have no choice but to attack hard and fast, play on as quickly and smartly as possible. Quick, accurate kicks into the forward 50.

We slow the game, kick to packs out of defence, bomb it into the forward 50 - we will get utterly destroyed. Maybe by over 100 points.

We play ruthlessly and we could actually steal this - what an incredible roll of the dice the club has made and I at least have to respect their courage.

EDIT: Can't but help think that Montagna is partly responsible for this, just couldn't see these sorts of changes happening last year.

Think that's the most goal hungry forward line we have played in a number of years. If we can get the ball down there reasonably quickly, and not just bombing in onto heads, might cause some trouble on the scoreboard. In that respect, I will be happy if it's not a blowout like last time, and we don't fumble it like last week. That's all I ask really.

Just saw the key stats on Freo's website... some good stuff there. One thing it didn't mention is Freo has the best centre clearance differential across the first 3 rounds (we are 2nd for clearance differential). And unlike some other stats that isn't overly skewed by the North game. It hasn't all been Fyfe either - Walters had 5, Conca 4, Mundy 3, Lobb 2 (Fyfe 3) last week. We've also kept the opposition accountable (restricted their clearances) in the middle when they dominate the tap. If we can win the ball in the centre, the talls can get the ball to ground (if they don't mark) and our smalls can go to work we could score heavily from stoppages like we did against North. And I think we have a better balance now to apply strong forward pressure - Switta is our best small forward - can't wait to see him play. Will be a good test because their defence is arguably the best in the biz.

Our big problem vs GC and Saints was obviously our turnovers. Our turnover/intercept differential is the 4th worst in the AFL. And that's with us having the two best interceptors in the AFL atm (Ryan and Pearce). Again I think a lot of those turnovers have been forward of centre so hopefully with more smalls around they can make sure it doesn't just come back with interest the other way when the talls bring it to ground.

Huge test, not sure we'll be able to go 4 quarters with such a mature team but stranger things have happened.

I am not going to judge our progress by the result of this game, but by the way we play. It seems like our opposition analyst has identified that small, fast teams (e.g. Brisbane, Essendon) have troubled the Eagles in the past. It seems we are trying to attack the game rather than defend it.

Kudos, hope it works!
